So is this ship going to hold hundreds of mining ships and fuel for them? Is it going to hold all the food they're going to need for the 3 or 400 years you're talking about? This is starting to sound more like a bloody portable space station, something they're DEFINITELY not moving between Galaxies.

No, it would have terraforming and farming equipment, with seeds and equipment for growing food once they found a suitable planet.  With the passengers in stasis, the journey itself would only need food for the Asari skeleton crew.

What do you mean? Who is saying they need food for 400 years? Finding a single habitable planet is enough to get manufacturing and agriculture going.

A game that takes place 400 years *after* the colonists settle the new galaxy gives it enough time to develop settled worlds across many systems.

Stopping the Reapers is literally impossible, though. To the best of everyone's knowledge, nobody has ever done it. Ever. In billions of years.

How could faith in Shepard and the Crucible possibly outweigh the near-certainty of being obliterated? Any and every solution is preferable to staying, fighting, and losing. Escape from an enemy is the single option left when fighting them has been proven to simply not work.

Uh, no it's not. I did it. We all did it actually, if you remember? And then we rebuilt the Citadel and all the Relays and everyone lived happily ever after.

You're still ignoring the fundamentals - it doensn't matter if a few people wanted to escape - THEY DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO. Unless the Asari funded this and just decided to let all their planets die then it didn't happen. And I'm sure as **** they wouldn't just drop everything and let billions die just so they can maybe escape and then procede to die in another Galaxy.

Those people would consider trying to stop the Reapers to be the suicidal course of action.

How do you know some of them didn't?  ;) Or maybe their infrastructure was too fragmented when the Reapers attacked through the Citadel to muster the attempt.

Because they probably would've sent a message out over the beacons, like the Ilos team did? Then we would've known about it since ME1.

A new planet that they have to adjust to? A new planet whose food needs to fit their dietary requirements? Where are they going to store all the stuff to set up huge farms etc. They wouldn't last 400 years, so the game couldn't be set 400 years in the future.

Had enough of all this arguing now... going to lurk until we actually find out more about the game.

So you think a small secret society has enough money and resources to build an ark ship and then move to another Galaxy? And they have enough people to populate an entirely new Galaxy? Do you even realise how ridiculous you sound? Nobody would invest in something as ridiculous in an ark mission when they're too busy trying to stop the Reapers. And again, you're missing the point. It doesn't take long to build ships - it takes a long time to reverse engineer Reaper technology during a war with the Reapers and then implement it onto a ship and then they have to try and work out how to use the Citadel (yup, the Council just lets them wander into the Citadel and play with the core systems).

I imagine it never happened.

Who says it was small?  Perhaps they had agents throughout the galaxy and powerful public figures in their pocket.  I'm not saying the society only put themselves on the Ark ship.  I imagine they calculated the population they would need to reestablish and built the Ark accordingly, bartering seats for resources.  Maybe when the Reapers attacked the Citadel they evacuated some of the Wards population onto the ships before they left.  Anyone would invest in an ark mission if they believed defeating the Reapers was an impossible task (Which it was), especially if they had no idea about the Crucible (And even if they did, a miracle weapon sounds even more far-fetched than the ark idea).  People found time to devote resources to the Crucible, didn't they?

This plan doesn't even need Reaper technology to work (Though the Turians managed to reverse engineer a prototype from Sovereign's main weapon in two years, so...).  As for the Citadel, like I said, highly placed officials.

An impossible task WITHOUT THE CRUCIBLE, which you yourself admitted the general public knows nothing about.  Pick the refuse ending, see how that works out.

I think I've already explain how it might be funded.

The Crucible team didn't send out a message when they began work on it, like Javik said, communications were messed up.

Well, on the ships obviously.  Did you think they would only have room for passengers?

Its a chancy proposition, naturally, but with a little bit of luck they can find a viable planet.  If the writers want them to, they will.

The secret small ark theory or strategy makes perfect sense considering Vigil and the small band of protheans that survived after the reapers went away.  Shepard and the powers that be would have learned from that and attempted a similar top secret fail safe mission.

This is what it boils down to, basically.

They can write a way for it to happen - they probably already have.

Look at the "new region of space", "stranger in a strange land" and "new experiences" quotes all over the place.

The Council didn't believe in the Reapers when one knocked on their door and tried to kill them, with testimony from one of their Spectre agents backing up the idea.  I'm not saying these people have anymore proof Shepard, in fact I'm imagining them as a bit of a fringe group, or a secret society, that used a substantial amount of personal wealth and whatever investors they could find, combined with a massive influx of investors looking for a way out of the Reaper War once it began.  If something as massive as the Crucible can be completed in a few months, I imagine they can build several much smaller ark ships (Or retrofit existing ships) with years on their hands even with fewer resources.

I imagine it happened just before the Reapers retook the station.  All the witnesses are dead (Or possibly some escaped on the Ark ships).

Its an interesting theory, but there is a big issue with the undertaking of an intergalactic voyage.

Mainly, how many people, and species are we talking here? Being able to have a stable population you would need at least several thousand members of a species to avoid too much interbreeding in subsequent generations. If this ark is to be the galaxy's attempt to survive the Reapers then you would want members of every species; unless we are dealing with another _____ (insert species name) supremacist group that is only interested in saving their own people.

If this ark is supposed to allow all the races of the galaxy to survive the invasion then you would need at least several thousand members of the Human, Asari (less so since they can breed with anyone), Turians, Salarians, Quarians, Krogan, Batarians, Volus, Elcor, Vorcha, Hanar, Yahg and Drell species; and those are just the Council/Non-Council races. That doesn't even take into account other races like the Rachni or Geth, who could (potentially) be allies in ME 3 and would like to avoid extinction as well; though the Rachni would only need one queen and the Geth are software.

That's 15 species (each with their own viably sustainable populations) that the ark would need to transport, and that doesn't even begin to cover the other items that the ship would need to bring. Things such as supplies/colonization materials, power sources, etc. would also need to be brought along as well, meaning that this ship would probably be larger then a Reaper capital ship in size. Sure, the ark could save space by only carrying the genetic information of the races, and then cloning people once it got to it's destination, but really at that point you might as well just reboot the franchise.

Another thing to consider, if the species of the milky way do make it to the next galaxy over, is the viability of potential colonies. The Quarians and Turians have completely different food requirements then the other races, what do they do if there are no compatible worlds?

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but can we start a new thread about ark theory please?  I'm wading through pages of fan debates over this theory that has never been mentioned on twitter so I can find the one or two tweets or official news that have actually been confirmed.  Its a cool debate and fan theory, this is just the wrong place.

I imagine there are species that would be left behind.  Geth are a possibility, though I'm sure the Rachni wouldn't be coming along.  The Quarians may or may not come along, since the only Quarians not with the migrant fleet at the time would be exiles, social outcasts (Which could produce an interesting new permutation of Quarian society down the road if they went that way).  I'm pretty sure the batarians were all but wiped out, so that's an open question.  A fertile female Krogan can apparently produce a massive number of offspring, so their numbers may not have to be so great (Though I suppose that doesn't solve the inbreeding problem).  Yahg aren't spacefaring and probably not targets for Reaper annihilation, so I doubt they'd bother.  I doubt anyone would go out of their way to save the vorcha (I don't think their homeworld is technologically advanced at all anyway.  A few may stow away).  That cuts the numbers down as low as 9.  Keep in mind that we're not necessarily talking about a single massive ship.  Rather it could be a flotilla.  It really depends on the scale of this secret society I'm postulating.  Perhaps there's a specialized cell for each species they intend to preserve, coordinating the building of their ark(s) and the logistics of resettlement.

This is a desperate venture, filled with risk and pretty much reliant on luck to find viable planets to settle.  At the end of the day, they'll find one if the writers want them to.

And the Ark Theory discussion really needs to end here.  PM me if you want to discuss it further.

Hmm, i wouldn't say as dumb but I will say it surprises me how many people jump the gun when we pretty much know nothing about the next Mass Effect apart from seeing some scenario images and one Krogan roaring. :?
