So, Geoff Keighley said that he spoke to Casey Hudson from Bioware and that the new IP will be a "multiplayer...MMO style game". Hmmm...thoughts? (http://www.giantbomb...ay-3/2300-9133/ 1:44:53)
Well that's a bit of a shame. I just can't get into MMOs. As much as I'd like a new Elder Scrolls game, I'm never going to buy ESO. Guess this will be the same.

Not my thing, then. Ah well, still hope it'll be good!
Personal preference. I hate the idea.
I always thought, if you want to socialize, go out and socialize. Play some soccer or something.
Virtual space is virtual people.
This is a tad naive and easily said but there are a lot of people that are3 not the type to just 'go out and socialize' or they do but still play games. There is actually a pretty good social aspect and community for some of these multiplayer games, including ME# mp.

It's also a bit difficult to just go out and socialize with a friend who's on the other side of the country.

Canada's wider than the Atlantic (I think), but this too!

Tell me about it.
I live in Argentina, therefore most of the people I meet online are far of. Granted I also play with my friends here but well... what can you do about it?

For myself:
I don't want other people's enjoyment of a game to be dependant on me
I don't want my enjoyment of a game to be dependant on other people.
So a heavily-multiplayer focused game has little to offer me.
Defiance was (is?) a multiplayer-capable, MMO-like online game that also lends itself just fine to independent exploration and storytelling.
The idea of another game like that doesn't grab my interest, at all, but there is a middle-ground between the two styles.
I'm really getting the feeling that the next game will start in the middle of the reaper war and the rest of the story will split from there; avoiding the consequences of the ending.

It all depends on how it's done. A traditional MMO that really requires you to be in a group in order to complete a lot of the content, especially at end game, is a non-starter for me. If the game accommodates groups as well as solo play for all the content, I might get on board. I remember City of Heroes was pretty good about scaling content to group size (though it fell short in certain other areas). Diablo III is also a good example of scaled content.
The big problem is that multiplayer doesn't really lend itself to the things I look for in BioWare games. I want a good story, fully voiced NPCs and player characters, companions with developed personalities, stuff like that. While I really enjoy SWTOR, I can't say that I wouldn't enjoy it every bit as much (maybe more) if it were single-player like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. I think that in order to do multiplayer right with those "BioWare elements" fully realised in the game requires a game of the scale of SWTOR, which isn't something I think EA will be doing again soon.
I do enjoy playing games with real people from time to time, but I think just as often they just get in the way. If I had to choose between real people and virtual people to interact with in a potential game, the bots (fully voiced with detailed personalities) win with no contest.
One of the things I liked in SWTOR was the way they handled Flashpoints, at least in terms of the group conversation mechanics. If they could make a multiplayer mode that exploited and expanded that system more, I'd play it. Honestly that's sort of what I always thought multiplayer in a Bioware title would be before ME3 came out.
I don't know about another huge MMO though.

This is a really interesting idea!
It would also explain why everyone is running around worshipping the N7 symbol, if our new protagonist was inspired by Shepard's wartime accomplishments in some respect.

N7 took on a different meaning during the Reaper war, after all, and that's very likely to continue directly following the galaxy's bonded success.

Remember all those unofficial multiplayer squads running around calling themselves N7 too. N7 might have a much broader meaning by the time of the new ME.

- What were you doing?
- Well, you know, N7ing, nothing special. Have you seen the new blasto movie?
- Oh man, it was completely N7.

Yeah - at the super-squirrel sekrit PAX fan panel thing last year there was a mention of Mike Gamble asking fans what N7 meant to them. I can definitely see them turning Shepard into a symbol, which does fit into a broader pattern of Bioware's statements after the endings. It seems like they interpreted at least part of the backlash as grief about Shepard (whether or not that was actually the case), so a fair few devs have been almost deifying the Commander - and mentioning romances every four seconds, which seems to be what they think super-hardcore players want to hear about.
It sounds like it could have morphed from a generic Alliance military designation to something that's linked to broader heroism. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, but ME's marketing team did go around plastering the logo everywhere as Shepard's Thing™ and kinda forgot that humanity also has hundreds or maybe thousands of other N7s in active service.
I do think it'd be unfortunate, though, if ME: Dentist tried so hard to tiptoe around the controversy and reassure the crazed mob with warm N7 Shepard-y nostalgia that it never gave itself the chance to run away with something completely new. Responding to the mistake of ME3's ending by being super-fixated on "don't ****** off the fans, keep mentioning Shepard" would be an even bigger mistake, I feel, but I guess we'll have to wait until some more information comes to light.

That's perfectly fine, my comment was in direct reply to the person talking about real world friends vs game friends. A lot of people hate mutiplayer which is perfectly fine.

This is probably a good move for BW. MP and MMOs are clearly something they want to get deeper in to, so having an original IP to explore these games styles will grant them the opportunity to grow in that direction. Myself, I will pass on it, but for those that like MP, MMOS and BW this could be great news.
