I'm really glad that everyone seems to like the space walk. :)

It was a nice change of pace from all the action and battles we had during the rest of the game. Also consider that this is one of the few moments in the entire trilogy when you're actually in space, the other being the opening scene of ME2.

It would be nice to have a few more of those moments in the Next Mass Effect, especially under calmer circumstances (Imagines orbiting around a space station, looking at a planet, with vigil playing in the background  ^_^ )

Hey I liked the 1st space walk when the Normandy got blown to smithereens.  I would always go out of my way to bump the floating chairs around.

The best moment in ME3 is clearly Garrus' end speech.

'' Meet me at the bar. ''

Well not really. There are plenty awesome/sad moments, but I think Garrus' final speech is a mix of both.

The best moment is when the Thresher Maw takes out the Reaper. A really close second is the Tali/Legion decision. That caused three girls in my house to have a 15 minute intense meeting about what to do and then 15 minutes of ugly crying when he died.

Oh man! I did that once, after that...*gooooodbye Tali!* if it came down to that.

The thresher maw is another awesome scene. First time I watched that I was like "Heck yeah! (stronger langauge deleted)"  Then reloaded and played through all that again so the hubs could see the awesomeness.

Oh, and the first time Shepard got killed by a Banshee.....I got a great screenshot of Shep getting stabbed so lovingly in the tummy. Only one of the 'Shep dies' scenes I had that seemed to go slo-mo.

Game development is really a strange thing, they're probably already doing gamplay stuff but just now are hiring a Lead Gameplay Designer. lol

You know they could be hiring because their current Lead Gameplay Designer is moving on to other things, & has given them plenty of notice to hire a replacement.  ;)

Additionally, stating an opinion vs. stating fact. I think that wasn't good vs. that wasn't good. It makes a difference, because one makes the inference that you are somehow an authority on the subject by stating it as fact.

Let me ask you something.

How many times in your own games - the games BioWare makes, the games BioWare writes - does the hero start off an argument along the lines of "In my opinion..." or "I think..." Of all the persuasion options in all your games?

Hmm. Does Shepard say "Well...I guess I sorta think Tali is innocent...but that's just my humble little opinion..." Does he say "In my opinion what you're doing is wrong and you should stop..."

No. He does not. He does not say how he thinks things are. He says how things are.

I've heard this from too many staff members. How on Earth is BioWare supposed to craft a story about heroism when they're so contemptuous of it? The core failing of ME 3's ending is that at the moment Shepard's heroism should have meant everything, it counted for utterly nothing. How on Earth are they supposed to do an iota better if they're so quick to betray the values they should be enunciating?

God forbid someone is 'somehow an authority' by learning and understanding a subject. God forbid someones knows what they're talking about.

Nobody outside the company can properly understand the constraints Bioware faces in developing their games, we just don't have that information and we never will. Presuming authority as a fan often comes across as arrogance, rather than ignorance.

Saying "I think" is rightly said to be the most helpful reaction you can give them, because - as has been said before - any attempt to speak as an authority about game design is going to result in a comment that is completely useless. We do not have the context or the inside knowledge to participate in those discussions.

They probably ignore the completely useless comments, so if you want feedback to be heard it really is better to present it as nothing more than one fan's opinion - which is, after all, the extent of what anyone here can actually provide.

God forbid someone is 'somehow an authority' by learning and understanding a subject. God forbid someones knows what they're talking about.

A couple of things here:

First, you presuppose a confrontational rather than a cooperative relationship between BioWare and its fans.  There is a tremendous difference between the protagonist of a story being "heroic" and confronting the antagonists of, again, a fictional story and developers eliciting feedback from their fandom. Your example is poorly chosen because within it is the implication that there exists a natural conflict between synthetics and org...I mean BioWare and its fans.

Second, it is incredibly unlikely that any given BSN poster is a significant authority on the subject of game development.  However, if they were they would need to actually rely on their authority it would be important to actually signify what that authority is exactly.  Just "I play lots of videogames and am generally smart" does not necessarily qualify someone as an authority in making games.  Reading BSN it feels like everyone has experience as AAA videogame developers and there is a distinct reluctance to admit the very personal and subjective nature of their opinions.

As a general good rule of conversation, the more controversial or critical your claim is the more you need to either 1) qualify it as based on your own personal preference as a consumer of BioWare products or 2) qualify it by appealing to whatever authority you think you possess.  If it is a relatively innocuous point up for debate you wouldn't need to go through all of this, but the more heated the subject matter the more important it is to adhere to seemingly superficial but ultimately useful tools of civil discourse.

That's a complete load of crap.

When Shepard is talking someone down, he does not know their life story. He does not know their circumstances. He does not know whatever 'constraints' they faced to get in whatever situation they're in. Does that mean he switches to meekly starting every sentence off with "It's just my humble opinion, but..."

No. He does not, does he? And the reason why is very simple. Because it doesn't matter. Because a thug threatening an innocent is still a thug threatening an innocent, and a game with serious problems is still a game with serious problems.

I don't play BioWare games to admire how well they overcame whatever obstacles they faced in development. I play them because I expect them to be good.

Oh, but I guess everything Shepard did was 'completely useless' because he 'attempted to speak as an authority' on morality. He doesn't have the context to know if that thug who just shot a bunch of innocent people is a bad person or not.

What does Bioware asking people to frame their feedback as personal opinions have to do with Shepard or the nature of a hero?

That's a really bizarre and tenuous connection. I just... don't understand you here.

Well I like to think we're all heroes. Sometimes I wear a cape when filing bugs.
