It looks like they are taking the phrase "Putting one's blood, sweat, and tears into a project" quite literally over there. I imagine the"sweat and tears" part is not that cool or exciting (or sanitary) so we only get to hear about the blood.
I filled out the survey as well.
I love the replies the devs give back and forth to one another. I find Jos' and Barrett's to be quite comical.

Your avatar is what's comical.
Nobody cares.
Manveer Heir cares, clearly.
Pretty sure we won't see anything major there.
Wait and see ![]()
I really don't like this total information black out we're under. [...] At this point in development, the devs could give us a CG trailer with a basic outline of the time period and even setting the game takes place in.
BW is laser-focused on releasing their biggest game ever in October. It is perfectly reasonable to stall the ME hype train until then. But guess what, N7 day is only a month later. If they plan to release in late 2015, it's also quite perfect timing. <rant>At least in gaming industry terms. There's this bad habit of announcing games way to early. I like the, let's call it Apple way for lack of a better word, of doing things: "here's something new, you can get it today/next week". Announcing something a year before it's available is already really stretching it, but some take it too far (The Last Guardian anyone?). </rant>
And no, talking about how the next game is coming along is not of the same hype-fueling importance as announcing title, protagonist, plot and release date. A year or two ago, BW did a preview panel of DA:I (then still untitled) which showed only concepts of what they're aiming for in the next installment. I expect this year's ME panel(s) to be similar, perhaps a bit more detailed (because according to the E3 trailer, there's already an alpha build.).
Wait and see
You, uh... well... do you perhaps, by any chance, uh... know something we, uh... don't? ![]()
(Please say yes)
No, I have no idea. But the SDCC panel at least sounds like it will include something interesting. Again, I don't think they'd fly five developers to California to sit on a panel for an hour and reveal nothing.
The devs are also saying stuff like:
Our #SDCC panel is going to rock - but we need to pack the room. Get on that, people!
(Then there's EA's likely press event at Gamescom, and PAX later on. Any one of them could be the time for an information blowout.)
Finally, some fans who are more connected and knowledgeable than I am have said ME Next has both a name ("Mass Effect: Contact") and a trailer ready for unveiling, and many expected to see it at E3. Since we didn't, I'd say the last half of this year is a much better bet.
Haha our avatars look like they would make quite a couple.Your avatar is what's comical.

Exactly Raizo.
They don't necessarily owe you anything just because you're still posting on a forum about a game two years after it came out, though. At the end of the day your money is worth just as much as the people who will pick up ME: Next on launch because they were impressed by the mindblowing reveal that took months to get right. If there is a plan to only talk about ME Dentist when it's ready; they aren't obliged to change it just because you really, really want them to.
Fair point that there needs to be a discussion at some point about the studio's relationship with its fans (because it *certainly* didn't happen after ME3), but I don't really think the best way to start is by assuming that "core fans" are somehow more important, or more worthy of attention, than anyone else.
I don't intend to take this thread off topic again, but I wish to clarify some things. Firstly, EP, we rarely seem to agree with each other, but perhaps we should put a stop to any snarky attitude we've shown towards each other. Let's not bring back any of the hostility from the post ME3 **** storm.
Secondly, I like ME3 overall. That Includes the ending. But after a good deal of reflection, I can see merit to some of the hater's arguments. One of those includes the way Bioware has dealt with it's fans - at least when it comes to Mass Effect 3 and ME:N. Overall, Bioware does a very good job with fan communication. The cons and Twitter chatter (not to mention here) are all very good. But it is true that the Post ME3 backlash could have been handled better, as you say. I wish to go a step further in asserting that this near total information black out around ME:N is unnecessary and actually a bit counter productive. A mistake from the past is being repeated to a degree. When it comes to core fans, it's important to remember the value of good old word of mouth. Happy fans are going to tell their friends good things about the company and it's games. A certain feeling of obligation towards fans is in the company's best interest. Of course, it is Bioware's stories to tell regardless of personal taste. I've made that argument myself, and I still agree with it. But There is room for improvement when it comes to communication and discussion about those stories.
I have a lot of respect for Bioware compared to other devs, and especially AAA devs. But I can agree with people who feel the company may have taken a turn for the worse and perhaps even sold it's soul after joining up with EA. Casey and the other higher ups need to do their best to learn from the mistakes of the past, and fight EA tooth and nail when they feel the fat cats are going against their interests and the interests of it's target audience (which shouldn't be entirely separate).
Normally I would agree with you on the point about game developers talking about projects that won't be available for years to come ( I'm not exactly a fan of that ) but 3/4 of EA's E3 press congress were games that we won't be seeing for quite some time. Obviously this news blackout is not a EA thing but rather a Bioware thing.
As for ME4 or the next ME, would it kill them to give us a name since the aren't exactly fans of ME4 ( even though it is the 4th ME game ) and confirm whether it takes place before ME3 or after ME3. I'm not asking for them to start talking about everything about the next ME but at this point in stage a handful of very basic answers would go a long way to pacifying the community and tiding us over until they are ready to give us something more substantial.
It wouldn't. I've been through this sort of thing (people waiting for things that have been in development for a long time) and releasing information too early temporarily satisfies the people calling out for info, but it only increases their demand. Instead of pacifying the community, it aggrevates them. Look at how people are starting to demand new info when it's barely been a month since the alpha footage at E3.

Yeah but I'm a self-absorbed solipsist so this Manveer Heir or whatever doesn't even enter into it.

The hyphen threw me off so I had to look it up.
Should we be excited about SDCC? I'm pretty excited.
So yeah, @GambleMike showed me what he's showing off at San Diego Comic Con for @masseffect and I think it's great stuff to show.

Oh, no... I'm getting excited! Quick, before I hype! SOMEONE STOP ME!
