I was looking for this! (The Mako cruising along some planet)

Higher speed, better handling... looks great! :)

I wasn't impressed with the footage. It moves too fast for an exploration vehicle, you'd almost think Bioware were building an off-road driving game with ATV's. Speeds like that are fun on relatively flat surfaces, not so much climbing up hills, driving down into hills and valleys or hitting speed bumps. The only saving grace is that in that footage there did not seem to be and extremely steep mountains to climb because that's where Bioware went wrong with the Mako in ME1, the made the planets obstacles to overcome and exploration a chore instead of something to savour and enjoy.

Because for a lot of us who are hoping to see something reassuring in the plot, setting, and continuity department we are left in the dark and while I may be able to hold out I know plenty of others who's patience is running the red zone and may not be able to recover. I truly appreciate the time they take to go out there and demonstrate ME:? but it seems that they're not comfortable with their own work if they are not willing to show some really basic single-player details beyond the new Mako and the fact that we're an N7 again.

I agree.

This game is in development since nearly two years and all what we got is very low info. It was already been hinted that planetary exploration will play a greater role in the next game. So if you could add 1 and 1 together it's nothing specifically new.

The only question was to which degree we can explorate. And since "open-world" is a buzzword these days I expect them to do large planet areas to exlpore a bit like the areas we get to see in DAI.

I'm not complaining about the lack of info I'm just a astound but after this panel I'm quite sure that the release is far, far away, sadly.

Did you see the panel?

OT: While I'm thankful that we got some new info, the remark made about it being "years" away almost completely killed my hype train. I understand not wanting to rush, but my interest (and several other people's) took a drastic nosedive when that was said. After all, how long is that? 2 years? 3? 5? more?

That's why this whole thing is stupid. Announcing games too early, using social networks to post updates, telling people what's being done on a regular basis.

It spoils everything.

She's a psycho, yes (who the hell looked at her resume and thought "Hmm, clearly a candidate for a scholastic career. We should unleash her at the kids as soon as possible."), but she's a fun, straightforward psycho without any cry-me-a-river daddy issues. Actually, and this is what appeals to me the most, there is absolutely no cry-me-a-river of any kind with Jack. She's the only one who doesn't immediately buy into the ridiculous "Shepard the galactic messiah" BS, not to mention she's got some of the best one-liners of the series.

So in summary: She's fun, straingtforward, and, dare I say, less qq more pew pew.

Well, I have my own theory about Miranda's behavior and emotional scars. it's not "Daddy issues" from my point of view, She was hurt because how her father treated her and then she allowed nobody to get that close to her. That's why She didn't allow anyone to question her loyalty to Cerberus. It was only a matter of time until Miranda overcomes her emotional scars, Jack eludes her scars with Sex "'As kelly indicates", and bitchy behavior. Jack needs someone to save her because she's weak, Miranda doesn't. Miranda only needed to have a new beginning.

Mako without super weird driving physics is no real Mako.

We'll see what eventually ships, but there have already been bugs like being able to drive straight up a flat wall. It's had a pretty entertaining development life so far.

A cold sweet breeze blows at my face as I look down at the mako haters, feeling the superiority rise up.

Mako is love, mako is life. Accept your fate people. It was awesome, and it will be even more awesome.

Yeah, it used to be a decent city. No.... It's just a shanty town.

It still is a great city. Saying its a shanty town is absurd. You can find rough spots in almost every major city in the world. Yes, we are going through bankruptcy. It is necessary. But out here we can feel a comeback is happening.

Seems a lot of people really want a title.. and ME: Dentist is pretty good, but I think they've dropped plenty of hints as to what it actually will be.

Now, we know it's not ME4, and it's constantly referred to as the next Mass Effect.  So a lot of people are calling it ME:Next.  Which we can shorten to ME:N or MEN.  But.. to say, "I'm really looking forward to MEN" can be confusing and sexist.. after all there were a lot of femsheps (~20%? or 1/5).  So I say.. we take "the next Mass Effect" as nME.  Which.. if you say fast enough, sounds like enemy.  ME:Enemy confirmed!!

The title for the next game is Enemy!  So.. ME: Dentist, or ME: Enemy.. at the end of the day... do we really care that much for a title?  I don't get why in particular.  Anyway..  obviously I'm joking.

Loved the info coming out of the con, love the return of the mako and for the most part, large open environment exploration.  The reveals aren't huge and massive, but they do allow us to whittle down more and more as to what the game actually will be.  And I appreciate that.  Although I understand some people may not.

Big thanks to Hrungr and anyone else updating this thread with posts regarding dev tweets and con/show info.  I was waiting on a vid being posted on youtube, but I couldn't wait any longer so I checked this thread.

After taking the survey, I can say that I am really excited with what we've been shown so far, regarding nME.

As great a ring "nME" has to it, now I'm starting to dig ME:Dentist, if just so I can say I take my MEDs every day.

With some of the whining in a few of the threads on this forum I'd say we have several raging anti-dentites around here.

I'm wondering about the release date now. BioWare had previously suggested that ME4 would share a lot of core systems with DA:I, being on the same engine and being the same type of game. The Mako would be derived from other EA properties, as the Frostbite engine is designed with vehicle-based shooters in mind. If ME4 is years away, then I'm starting to wonder about BioWare's long-term release plan. 4 years for DA:I seemed like it was intended more as a core tech change and content drive to counteract fears brought about by DA2, with returns to find in limited redevelopment of future titles. If ME4 is not even going to make 2015, then it's also on the 4-year track, which seems really odd if it has so much already developed elsewhere. I wonder if it found itself on the back burner for a while?

Yeah, I had thought that DA:I's long dev time was due to rebuilding everything in Frostbite, too.

Since they've spoken about ME Dentist being able to leverage some of those systems in the engine, I would've thought it would take less time. I'd be kinda surprised if it doesn't make 2015, since that would be three to three and a half years of development.

Being "in development for two years" is unlikely.

Being in planning for two years? Far more likely.

The game was playable in December last year, though.

It's been in development since at least September 2012, because that's when the team announced they were making a new Mass Effect game.

(I thought at the time that work started in June 2012, since that's when some Montreal devs were talking about meetings for a new project.)

I'm with Elite, this is getting confusing. If most of the systems are being ported over shouldn't the game be coming out sooner than years from now? I distinctly remember Aaryn saying something about this, so if someone can find that tweet could you post it here?

It's come up a few times, but this is the most clear, from November last year:

""We've got a longer development cycle for Dragon Age, but that comes from two things: One is the investment in Frostbite to make it an RPG engine, and that's a big one for the team. They're helping eat that rock for Mass Effect," said Flynn.

The inherent beauty of this, though, is that the next studio that makes an RPG won't have to do that back-end work; it can simply build on the back of BioWare's work. These longer dev cycles won't last forever."

Tracked down some more people who were live tweeting the panel yesterday:

“The theme is new experiences for players, but with elements of what you know and love. #Masseffectpanel #sdcc

“I wouldn’t say there’s no combat. Combat is a point of exploration.” #Masseffectpanel #sdcc

On playable non-humans: “We haven’t locked that down … Can’t talk about that.” #Masseffectpanel #sdcc

Sounds like everything is very early. Not confirming things like Mako thrusters, looking at vehicle customization. #Masseffectpanel #sdcc

"You're not playing Shepard and Shepard is not a central part of the story. Want players to explore places you haven't explored before."

Showing work in progress material. Still years away and might change, Bioware says. But "our hero has something to with N7."
