I'd prefer a sidequel to a prequel, but not by much. Here's hoping the "moving forward" comment was meant to be taken fairly literally.
I'm inclined to believe these rumours are just misinterpretations of what was said combined with wishful thinking. They all seem to conflict with other things we've been told or shown before.
yeah, i was looking thru another thread and somebody pointed out that maybe whoever said that the game seems to be set during shep's lifetime just saw the n7 logo and the mako and jumped to the "impression".
others say that the panel did not actually say anything about setting/timeline.
even things like the PC having a "connection" to N7 vs. being an N7 operative. operative is rather specific, while having a connection to n7 could mean...alot of things.
I look at those Mako pictures and the armor and think that they look too modern to be anything except post ME3. Ok, you could say it's a sidequel and the modern look is just taking advantage of what Frostbite can do, but that would ruin the immersion a bit for me.
My theory for the main character is that he used to be N7, but left the military for a career as a PI or in that Alliance exploration wing. A lot of former soldiers are allowed to keep their service rifle, why not the armor too?

But the data released from the ME panel kinda gave me that guess that the game will be set during Shepard's life-time as well, And I have to lower my expectations especially with the ME team. I don't trust them after the whole ill-handling of the ME3 controversy. I'd certainly like it if BioWare surprised me, Would make me regain my trust in the ME team.
my idea abt the n7 thing was that the pc either scavenged it somewhere and later learned more abt n7 and all that. (hell maybe even like DAI where the pc essentially resurrects an old "order" to fight new things.
ooorrr, it's sum kinda family heirloom the pc comes across, but again doesn't really get the significance of it.

well, we won;t get to know either way anytime soon. so, i feel like i just might as well hang my hat up on this one.
Who is to say that the "N7" we keep seeing is for a game set within the timeframe of the Shepherd Saga?
DA:I - Ferelden (Old), Orlais (New)

To set the game in a different galaxy, technology in the MEU would have to make a considerable leap or else the lore is thoroughly broken.
I'm not fussed anymore, the games 'years' away at this stage and all we currently know about ME4 is that the Mako is back and shepard isnt the protagonist, everything else is speculation, miss information and assumptions.
There isn't really much point going around in circles with rumours untill Dragon Age is released - only then will Biowares main focus shift back onto the ME franchise enough to start laying the groundwork with facts.
Time to slowly crawl back into my cave and hibernate until atleast N7 day or beyond.
I feel the people here in Scuttle get their jimmies ruffled too easily by stuff that could get changed and you just don't know yet.
I mean yeah, not hearing about the nitty gritty of the game isn't exactly grand but when you are (according to wild speculation and implied from tweets) early enough in development where anything is subject to change changing stuff on you is only going to make it worse. Just wait a while and we shall be rewarded. I think.

They could, that gives them Control and High EMS Destroy. Both could be bridged but until some time passes I don't think they will play around too much with canonizing endings. Too high a chance of people complaining about the same stuff they did last time... Eh. Not that enough people care passionately about it for it to be a huge deal. I think.

Hey guys and gals! I do not participate in conversations but I come to this thread every now an then for new info.
Anyway, I was one of a few that really liked the mako back in ME1 and I've got to say that I loved how the new one looks.
Does anybody else have the impression that Bioware started production of ME:Ν and sometime along the way just decided to reset the whole thing? That's what I get from "The game is still years away". I felt that the game was closer to being complete. Maybe about a year or two. I don't know... maybe I shouldn't take things like this to the word.
Also, regarding the main charachter being an N7 marine again, wasn't there a poll that asked how the fans felt about the N7 symbol and what it meant to them? So, maybe, during the timeframe of the new game N7 is just a symbol of ultimate dadassery, strength and everything that Shepard represented, being worn from different species.

That's the impression I got, yeah.
The N7 thing came from a "secret" fan panel last year at PAX, where Mike talked about the game for a bit with some ME players who were at the event. One of the questions he asked was what N7 meant to them.
Did you know that the Mako actually runs on vegetable oils, and that its rear exhaust is used for BBQs when not on mission? #MakoFrenchFries
The Mako also has a secret compartment for storing emergency rations of whiskey sours. It is the single most used feature. #MakoWhiskeySour
