From Mike's commentary it sounds like maybe this is the "ancient guardian aliens" that look like rocks, that somebody mentioned from last year (or was it 2012?)
think it could be connected to the Zeioph, maybe?

I didn't even think of that until you pointed it out but it really is reminiscent of the starmap.
Exploration on vast and varying geography. And a protagonist that isn't the hero savior of the galaxy from the jump....
Well, there's two boxes checked off the wanted list. Nice.
The concepts are really awesome, the scope of them is so huge if you compare them with the concepts from the trilogy.
By the sound of it, this is intended to be much more exploration focused than previous games.
