I was half expecting this would be all we'd get. It's nice to see pretty concept art and all, but I agree with the guy who said this is where we should have been at a year ago.

I wouldn't rule out the new hub place being a rebuilt citadel, or else an entirely new space station built where the old Citadel used to be. Someone else said the devs kept referring to "the" galaxy as if it's the Milky Way. Agreed. Hudson said the same thing back at the E3 presentation, so I'd say the devs are trying to reinforce that without saying anything concrete.

That screen shot of "the ailen's home" looked an awful lot like a more advanced version of Surkesh when I first saw it.

Judging by that last screenshot, I can see this new game being about exploring remnants of previous cycles and looking for non humanoid life forms which the Reapers skipped over. That would be cool.

Finally back from a long day of work and school.

Overall the new pics look awesome, kudos to the art team. Really like the direction they are taking, discovering new places, making your own adventure kind of thing, but in a Mass Effect context. Some of the stuff looks incredible.

I don't know if I'm getting the same sort of vibe as everyone else, but I'm really feeling a KOTOR style story developing, which is massive bonus points if true :D Obviously we know very little, and I could be very wrong, but if we want to draw comparisons, I think they said it's sort of becoming a hero and discovering how your personal quest ties in with the larger story, which is sort of how KOTOR played out, with you being a random no-name, discovered abilities and talents, travelled the galaxy, and discovered he was the key to everything.

Plus we have the return of Star Maps here:

2720701-concept2.jpg

The return of Kashyyk/Manaan here:

2720710-conceptnew.jpg

Star Forge and building the armies here:

2720711-moreconcept.jpg

Ok, Ok, I'll stop the comparisons here ;)

Also, another thing I wanted to say, which is exactly what others have said, is that we're sorta in the same spot as last year, where we also got some teaser/concept images. While it might seem this way, this was probably just to whet our appetite for future announcements.

There is no way a game that is more than halfway through development is only at the concept stage. These worlds we're seeing in the images? They are being worked on and most of the main and general orientations of the game (plot, characters, planets, etc.) are probably locked down already and some might be nearing being feature complete. This game has working parts and gameplay that is ready to show. Stuff is all starting to come together, and I'm sure that the devs are starting to see more of a game than of a few concepts and prototypes at this point  :)

They are just waiting for the right moment to make their announcement. Maybe there were plans to do it today, but they got changed when DAI got delayed. Regardless, all I'm saying is that within the next 3 months, we will have surely have gotten the info we need to start ''Speculations for everyone :wizard: '' on these forums, whether it comes through a teaser trailer or other manner. To quote Hackett: ''Evidence against you is shotty at best, but at some point, you'll have to go to BSN Earth and face the music''

Otherwise, happy N7 Day to all, and hopefully this time next year we'll be up over our heads in anticipation and hype over the next installment of Mass Effect B)

No one disputes that they're much further along than it appears. The problem is we're not being shown or told anything of substance. Hence the comment that we're still at the same place we were a year ago. I don't see any good reason for the devs not to give us some basic details and a trailer. It's not going to stop people from buying Dragon Age.

I'd like to think Bioware had plans for a bigger reveal, but the delay of DA put it off. That would mean we might get a bit more later in the year or early next.

The waterfall concept art that is home to a new species made me think of the Raloi so maybe it's Turvess? I always wanted to see what they looked like so hopefully we get a chance to finally.

All right, here I go. I tried not to expect much and I wished they showed us a teeeny bit more (a couple more concepts), but I am happy with and grateful for what we got. They do not have to share any new information with us, yet they set up a stream and do something fun for the fans on N7 day. I said it before and I will say it again - of all the games in all the franchises, Mass Effect and BioWare have the kind of open approach to their community I have never seen anywhere before. And I get all kinds of warm fuzzies seeing the trend continue.

Anyways.

- obvious DA:I plug is obvious. Yes, the game is coming out soon and yes, I do understand how marketing works but come on, guys, this is a MASS EFFECT podcast. Aint nobody got time for DA.

- focus on exploration - something we have known before and basically the one thing they are focusing on big time. But I guess that is the most they can tell us at this point, so yay. Seeing the Mako in those concepts makes me giggly.

- the art looks frikin AMAZING.

- the new space station is very much not the Citadel. I am willing to bet honest-to-gods, real-world, you-can-buy-stuff-with money on it. My guess - it is a new hub, but designed to be similar enough to the Citadel so as not to frighten us, delicate and sensitive little things. OMG WHAT IS THIS PLACE WHERE AM I WHAT IS THIS GAME AAAAARGH! No. It is home-y, familiar and reminds me of Elysium from the movie of the same name, but that ripped off Citadel in the first place. Interesting, though.

- the first homeworld made me think of SurKesh too, like an above poster pointed out. The art is gorgeous, though. Side thought - with all that water around, can you imagine the problems with mold these people have to have? Think about the state of your shower and multiply that by several hundred thousand. One thing is for sure - I would NOT want to be in the services industry in this city.

- dark and mysterious tomb reminds me of the engine room (?) at the end of "Total Recall". Which is a good thing. More things need to be like "Total Recall".

- the explorer shot literally made me squee with joy and get in touch with my inner Curiosity Core. Where is he? What is that thing? What is THAT thing? Is that standard equipment? Can we go there? When can we go there? New gear? WHAT NEW GEAR? Is it more like this awesome glowy-map thing? Random, unknown explorer working her (so gonna play female) way up to legendary status? Yes, yes, yes and YESSSSSSS - THIS. ALL OF THIS. GIMME. NOW.

-  the big ominous alien mechanism in space - interesting contrast with tiny ship. Interesting design. For some reason, it made me think of those bio-mechanical whale things from the "Avengers" movie. BUT here is where I got worried, especially when Mac started talking and then continued talking about stories on small and epic scale and then uttered the dreaded "organic vs synthetic" - although he said it was not going to be that, just no. I do not like what I am hearing and it makes me really worried. Perhaps it is my personal bias towards Mr Walters, which I am ready to fully admit to, but most of the time that concept was being discussed, I kept shaking my head. Please, please, please dont make this another MUST SAVE UNIVERSE story. We already had that. I still bear emotional scars from when we last had that to this day. I do not think my liver can take another week-long binge I would go on to make the pain go away.

My two cents.

Or DAI's story has to do with ME4's story..

Wait, that's nonsense. I'll go away now.

The 'big ominous ship' screenshot  looks like it has a reactor core or mass effect field inside it. Perhaps it's in another galaxy or a 'secret' part of the Milky Way like the collector base? I think the 'big space city' could be a redesigned citadel. Perhaps the old citadel was scrapped and replaced or its an alternate universe or some races broke away and created 'their own' citadel?

The good news is that they said much of the DAI team are joining ME4, now so if they're half way already, surely we should see something in the next couple of months. I mean, I'm hoping that BM have good far beyond the concept art stage

I just keep thinking it's going to be the game Destiny was meant to be. (Except better of than that...cuz it's Mass Effect).

I can see being able to fly around to different planets with your own ship. I also keep picturing that beautiful ship star map from the mini trailer (where they just talk about the fact it's in development).

It could be a really awesome game...damn..

please dont make this another MUST SAVE UNIVERSE story. We already had that.

I agree with this. Hopefully It'll be a lot of smaller scale stories. I hope ME4 doesn't completely go into unknown territory, and we see some aspects of how races we already know about coped with the aftermath of the reaper war. Also, maybe they'll release a 'Mass Effect keep' beta soon, mucking around with all the plot choices from the original games would be a fun way of passing the time, until we get more ME4 info. Maybe we'll get an accelerated trickle of twitter info between DAI's release and E3 '15 (when surely we HAVE to get a reveal!)

I would look foward for a more personal story. To be fair, the Mass Effect trilogy is full os personal stories, but most are embedded in a more epic story line, which for me is one of trilogy major strength, especially in ME3. (Tuchanka anyone?). Although KoTOR still the benchmark in that department.

But it can also be a distraction. If you have the fate of the galaxy on your hands, exploring planet after planet looking for minerals or lost ID tags is not the most reasonable thing to do.

So I'd like the story to be very personal at the beginning, with the epic coming as the story progresses. You don't have to have this epic galactic threat ever since the first game.

Also: anyone knows if there is a link to the yesterday stream?

I don't think they'll ever be able to animate bird-like aliens to the point that they'd be in the game.

The raloi will probably forever be a codex entry, unfortunately. I'd like to see them too.

Oh great, the Mass Effect Facebook-page is not accessible if you don't have a FB-account. There are people who don't want to use FB or live in countries that block the website.

Could somebody please upload the six pictures (not the screenshots, the Bioware-branded HQ-pictures) from yesterday to a service everybody can use.

Please.

Nice concepts. My favs were the new species homeworld one. Makes me wanna go right in and see what's going on. O also liked the shadowy pyramids one. That, too, makes me wanna go right in and see what's going on--in a very sneaky manner.

I like the idea for the PC.

The Not!Citadel hub..idk. If it's not the Citadel, I for one would prefer it did not look like the Citadel. I would prefer a new unique hub design for it. But, alas.

Overall, pretty good. Interesting looking stuff.

Given what we've heard I think we can safely expect a linear, corridor to corridor experience. :P

Buuuut seriously though I've never understood the love affair between fans and Mass Effect 1's uncharted planet exploration. For me Mass Effect has never been about the exploration of an uncharted galaxy akin to something like Star Trek. Rather for me what made Mass Effect was the individuals within, either working with or against each other. Mass Effect 1(most of the time) is my favorite of the series for its customization and the intrigue of places such as Noveria or Feros. Certainly not for trundling down desolate hills albeit with nice skylines.

What I would like to see return is thoroughly fleshed out N7 missions, ones like the Admiral Kahoku mission or 'hostile takeover' that force the player to indulge in the narrative and make a moral choice.

Huh. So it's "heavily implied" that it's set in a new Galaxy? That's pretty disappointing, for me at least.

And I can't say I like the design of the new Mako. It's just... ugly. Looks like a toy racing car, looks nothing like the original Mako.

mass1.jpg

Indeed - though I would not have said "toy-car" more like an over the top study (like the ones car manufacturers show at car shows - the ones they end up never manufacturing on a larger scale, because they look so over the top that no one would really want to buy them (note: no one means "not many" in this case - people tend to like down to earth looking vehicles as far as I know)) and it does not look armed (I would never go exploring in the ME-Universe without a gun on my vehicle...thresher-maw anyone or geth-robots?)

greetings LAX

ps: That bit about a new galaxy, that one I actually like though :)

I agree it's frustrating, and I know we could have had more info by now. But it's kind of the opposite of ME3, where they told us so much we practically knew the game before playing it.

I can't blame them for adjusting their strategy, but at some point they'll have to give us something of substance. Like you said, I think DAI's delay put a dent in their plans, but I think this is temporary. They probably want all the direction focused on the game that will fix Bioware's reputation among the disappointed fans, and it's more difficult to do that when advertising the sequel to ME3 at the same time, especially with all tge controversy around that game.

Regardless, I think the start of next year will bring the start of the PR department for ME Next. It won't be long now.

I actually like the way things are. Just look at twitch or every other Mass Effect related post out there. Every bit of information is followed with the same "endings sucked, EA is the worst company ever" and other negativity. So, unless they have something that will be so amazing that people would not have something to complain about it, it's better to avoid releasing much information. I think Mass Effect Next news, when they come, will be big and they'll come somewhat closer to the release date (about half a year or even a year before). And they would certainly not want to release such big news a week before Dragon Age release. Yanick even mentioned it at the start of the stream, not outright but the hint was there

I think they don't have one yet. I mean, they have a codename for the project but have not finalized the product name just yet. I agree though, if they have it, might as well release it! Unless it spoils storyline in some way and they'll be forced to reveal more along with it
