This thread needs a short-term motto.
I vote, "is this legit? No."
It... came to me somehow.
To my understanding the magazine was indeed legit, it just kind of trolled us.
And it's not like we're getting a lot of false info.

/facepalm
Okay, so if you're at one day in your development cycle now with 4ms ping times to the server.... Can you imagine the size that we're gonna have to download a year from now?
/uber facepalm
Keep in mind that these assets are probably completely uncompressed, meaning that the file size would be simply staggering.
Nah, they are using unpatched Windows Vista. The OS that couldn't calculate the time it takes to copy something.

Oh, I know. I'm just poking fun at all the quietness.

Hey, new here!
What's the "Ark Theory"?
Hey, new here!
What's the "Ark Theory"?
A fan theory about the next installment of Mass Effect, although this thread is only for posting/discussing tweets.
Hey, new here!
What's the "Ark Theory"?
Theory about how the next game could work. Bad idea if you ask me, but there's a thread to discuss it if you want.
So all the devs are playing builds of the game over Christmas and we still don't even know what the damn thing's called ![]()
Can't we get a Teaser or something? More Concept Art? ![]()
I'd play as a Quarian or Krogan if given the option. Probably Quarian first, then Krogan. Human would definitely be the last race I'd play as.
Unless the difference is more than just cosmetic i hope they don't put multiple playable races...

Single player = human only.
Multiplayer = multiple races.
It worked for ME3, it will work for NME.

Considering how ME1-3 was set up to work as a trilogy, it made sense for it to be restricted to human-only. Less data to import from game to game.
Multiple races worked for DA:O and DA:I, and allowing us to choose our race in ME4 would make ME that much more unique since the vast majority of sci-fi games make us play as a human.
Doesn't mean they will do it, but it also doesn't mean they won't. We'll just have to wait and see.
Hoping for human-only. I'd love to wish all the folks hoping otherwise could get what they want without it impacting my enjoyment, but I feel strongly that multiple playable races will by necessity sacrifice one of my favorite aspects of the series: its distinctly Trekkian vibe of a human overcoming their weaknesses and bringing strength of character and unity of spirit to the beautifully diverse galaxy. That resonates with me tremendously and accommodating for several playable races would almost assuredly diminish the level of impact reflected by the script
I suppose post-ME3 it's fairly common knowledge humans can achieve that, but still. Dat vibe. For me it's priceless.
It's one of the major underlying themes of the trilogy, sure: humanity proving its worth and place in the galaxy. Though this new game has a chance to do something different, and flesh out the world while giving the reins to not just this single, relatively young species.
Of course, it kind of all depends on where they want to go with the game's story and setting. If they're going for a more intimate story that doesn't necessarily impact the universe on a... galactic scale, like the trilogy certainly managed to achieve, then the theme may be lost anyway. But I suppose it's too early to tell what would be best.
I'm not holding out any hope for multiple playable races, though. I'm 99% sure we'll be limited to playing as a human again. Which is perfectly fine by me.

It did fail... Well, I'm getting off-Topic here, but just one simple answer wouldn't doom the thread.
The Ark Theory is a theory(Well, duh) that consists in during/before the Reaper War, the Council sent many Species, like Salarian, Humans, Asari to a New galaxy in case the Reapers won. That would be an option to avoid the ME3 Endings, since it changed the Milky Way, not the whole universe. Then, we wouldn't have Reapers, ME3 Ending Decisions and we would have a new Place to Explore.
Yeah, it's this, basically. I tried my best to shorten it.

One benefit of keeping the protagonist human-only is an ability to keep (hopefully) a large number of cinematic conversations.
As much as I liked DA:I, it did seem to have a lot less cinematic conversations than previous games. That was one area where I thought DA:O and DA2 were more immersive.
yeah DA:I went waaay to far off thinning it's story
Here is the thread about
Canonized ME3 ending choice versus "Ark Theory" versus anything else: The ongoing debate continues ITT!http://forum.bioware...-continues-itt/
exacly - Human only means - they need to make fewer recordings - means more defined and less blatant hero.
If you look at whole Mass Effect Trylogy and think what was its most distinctive feature that made the series soo succesfull - It is Shepard.
I'd like to future ME games to keep to that thing.
One time spin off with other races might not be bad - but It would not be as memorable as ME with strong Protagonist. (be him Human or Alien - but ofc nobody will make a game where you can only play an alien in universe that has humans - yet)
I hope it's human only too, Mass effect is about humans and their place in the galaxy.
If you want to play an alien there is always multiplayer for you and that's fine because the MP is very good. And I hope it will be another trilogy or at least "duology" I really like to see my choices in the second or third game, my romances etc it was a very good concept, they just need a better planning this time.
