As expected, more Dragon Age focused (as it should be).
Nah, Dragon Age is a B List franchise. Let's bring in the Mass Effect glory now!
--Are those the Dragon Age Devs or Bioware devs that can be working in ME:next?
They have one of those panels at basically every Bioware event, usually it's just people talking about what games they've been playing and where they think the industry is going in terms of technology.
If anyone was actually going to talk about the new Mass Effect, I think it would have its own panel(s).

Like they did for SDCC last summer.

It's more like the other way around. ME4 seems to be going back to its roots in ME1 with exploration etc. and Dragon Age has shifted away from it's roots and is trying to become a Medieval version Mass Effect which really hasn't worked. The one thing that concerns me is that whilst Inquisition is huge, it's largely bereft of anything interesting to do. Exploration is repetitive and largely made up of fetch quests. I don't want to see ME4 make the same mistake as that and repeat the same mistake as ME2 with its largely pointless mining of planets. It would be nice if the main story had clues and references to be found in these side quests but either way, ME4 should not be big for its own sake.
with any luck we might get some news at paxs

I generally dislike reading "going back to its roots" because it seems such a not precise expression.
I mean, if NME was going back to ME1 "roots" with exploration, it would have repetitive planets, copy and paste levels, a terrible vehicle with boring combat and with little depth to both exploration and combat. And interestingly enough, these are some of the same problems you point out in DAI. Although I'd say your assessment about DAI is incorrect and its exploration is very good, albeit the game could be more focused.
So I don't see NME going back to ME1 roots. It's bringing exploration and a mako back, but I reckon the similarities end there.
And I would argue Mass Effect roots are in Mass Effect 2, and not in the first game. That is when Mass Effect became the Mass Effect of today, that's the game that defines the franchise. And I say without fear that NME will built on that foundation, just like ME3 was.
I am not sure I follow you. I am simply of the opinion that the panels at PAX are appropriately centered on Dragon Age because where development stands for the next Mass Effect at this current time.
Did you mean to quote someone else?
Theory: they misinterpreted your post, taking it on its own without prior context, to be insinuating that you foresee Mass Effect becoming more akin to Dragon Age in future.
I think Mass Effect is going to be like Mass Effect.
Well, now that we've cleared that up......
I think Mass Effect is going to be like Mass Effect.
This pleases my Dick Dickenson.
Sounds reasonable.
In fact the best info bout ME4 we got so far. Keep up the good work, Jos.
Well, now that we've cleared that up......
It's been narrowed down to three games, at least ![]()

I think Mass Effect is going to be like Mass Effect.
But then, the obviously question is what does Mass Effect look like? I think the trilogy share a lot of things that give its a cohesion. But I say those are mostly on the narrative and character side of things.
When it comes to visuals, and especially gameplay, that have been many changes. Concerning the latter ME1 tried something that didn't work, ME2 came and fixed almost everything and ME3 built on that. And it's my impression NME will follow that, while bringing back exploration.
Oh come on. This discussion was just asking for it.
And I get it. But there are a lot of learnings to be gained from games that have been released. Dragon Age Inquisition as a game, and the people who developed it, have done a lot of things that are interesting to look at and to learn from. Both in what to do and in what not to do. Just because we as developers internally learn from the experiences of our co-workers on other projects, it doesn't mean that we look to make Mass Effect more like Dragon Age or the other way around. There's simply a lot to learn, and we'd be crazy to not look at what did and did not work on other projects.
Mass Effect will be like Mass Effect. As someone who has worked on ME2 and ME3 and most DLC for both, AND a stint on Inquisition, I can tell you that the Mass Effect I'm working on is very much Mass Effect. You can use as many grains of salt as you want, considering I have a vested interest and I have bias, but this is a Mass Effect game. ![]()

You SHOULD be biased - I for one expect it and am glad you are. It shows pride in your work.
People are so cynical. Jos and his colleagues love games too. They want to make a great game that is (preferably) loved by every one of you.
Let's just wait until ME:N is out before we start blaming Jos for everything that might be wrong with the it.

I agree with you on this. I, for one, and not blaming Jos for anything. I appreciate Developer interaction, and very much want it to continue.

So what you are saying is You are going to put more Mass Effect in my new Mass Effect game like you Mass Effected the previous Mass Effect games?

Actually, I think that BioWare wishes that it were the other way around, but it just hasn't turned out that way. BioWare has said, and yes, I'm paraphrasing, "Mass Effect is like a space opera. Dragon Age is more like Game Of Thrones, something that's on HBO."
To me that says, "While we take both games seriously, we don't really consider Mass Effect to be of much significance." When nothing could be further from the truth, as far as I'm concerned. Or, maybe just my fear and ignorance of operas is showing, I dunno. To me, the ME universe is more real than the DA universe. Why? Because in that universe, once you kill something... It's dead. Not, phooooooooosh. It's magic, and it's still alive. Agreed, that's just one reason, but a pretty freakin' major one.
Of course, I haven't always liked urban fantasy. But I learned to love it with ME. And Deus Ex : HR. God, I loved that game.

Impressive, I'd never be able to deduce so much about MrDbow's thought processes from that one gif to provide such a profound response. *clap*

Yep, I was severely offended by that and I'm just a gamer with no right of entitlement. ![]()
