I loved driving around the different planets in ME1. Even if there was not much to do in them, they all had a unique atmosphere and feel. Hopefully they do that in ME4 and expand on it. Man I can't wait.

Agreed. For me though, the desolation actually made it better and more immersive. ME2 and ME3's "uncharted worlds" too often felt designed by humans and very artificial - even on the planets without settlements we were stuck in canyons, valleys, etc that felt like a level in a video game, not a distant planet somewhere on the frontier of space. None of them felt as alien or as "spacey" as ME1's UNCs. I think even the Hammerhead stuff in the DLCs was quite linear?

Obviously every planet being a barren wasteland would be boring, but I preferred the feeling of being in this vast unexplored space, where we might be one of the very first people to ever visit. It was also pretty peaceful to just drive around a bit between objectives, and only occasionally stumble across a crashed escape pod or a small colony.

(Thankfully the concept art of the Mako on an asteroid (?) and an icy planet (?) they showed on N7 day looked amazing.)

I really love the name and the logo.  I find it pretty striking actually.  And I really hope it does NOT mean it's a prequel or a side-quel or an AnotherUniverse-quel.

My two cents is that ArkCon is a Company in-Universe...

Remember A.R.K.C.O.N Path Finder Initative? Everything references to that... So, basically the protagonist works/has some ties to this ARKCON industry, thus the reason the game is focused on Exploration.

Edit: Path Finder... Exploring new Worlds?? Uncovering unknown relics and stumbling on monstruous threats?

I do too... they sure do know how to drive a fan insanely curious!! I have a feeling the protagonist is going to be a post-reaper war explorer put in charge of finding new areas in the galaxy for rebuilding/restructuring the galaxy or at least thats my theory in a nutshell. Regardless of how very wrong I probably am, I really can't freaking wait for some info on the game and what this ARKCON organization is!

Same here! I'm sure this has been mentioned, but doesn't the logo resemble one of the concept art pics we got on N7 Day last november?

If we base on this comparison, your description for the next game sounds very accurate  ;)

Also, as an off-topic note, my sister recently introduced me to the Quizup app for mobile smartphones, and mentioning the existence of a Mass Effect quiz section got me intrigued, to say the least. All I have to say, is that some questions made me feel like a total noob. It's really high level questions like ''What's the most expensive fish you can buy in ME2'', ''Where was Jack born'' and ''What is the name of the facility where Jack grew up''. I'm officially hooked now, and I've already beaten a few top players (the game can be played offline or versus another player, accumulating point totals based on how fast you answer the multiple choice question, if at all) and climbed the leaderboards, so I'm satisfied with my progress so far.  :)

Ha, was just about to post that pic actually :P

They look pretty similar, not entirely sure they're the same thing though.

One thing I'm curious about though, is A.R.K.C.O.N meant to be an acronym? If so, it's going to be awkward whatever they choose to fill in the letters.

I keep reading people saying the game will be focused on exploration and that is wrong. Exploration will be a big deal, but not the major part of the game. If my memory is not betraying me, I even remember a developer saying you don't even need to explore much, that all exploration is optional. And they want to make you do it because it's good, and not because it's being forced on the player.

I have a theory that it goes for a collaboration between manufacturers. Something like this:
Aldrin-Rosenkov-Kassa Collaboration for Open Navigation

Well, we had been going under the assumption that it was A.R.K.C.O.N., when in reality it's little stars and they're really not after each letter.  Take a look at the N.   No star.

So, it could be ARK Convention.  But I like what I'm seeing here,  especially Aldrin - Rosenkov - Kassa Convention.  Hmm, who knows?  Possibly the three companies decided to go on a deep space exploring mission that none of the companies could fund themselves.

Mike literally says at 12:30 here that "a main pillar of the game is exploration".

The San Diego Comic Con panel last year said the game is about exploring planets.

I highly, highly doubt exploration will be optional. The story will be about exploration, a significant part of the gameplay will be about exploration, and I would guess most of the sidequests and non-story activities will also tie into exploration.

But my point is that there is a differente between 'a main pillar' and 'the main pillar'. I'll give a small look on the N7 day roundtable to see if I find the quote about exploration.

Check the 27:00 mark http://www.twitch.tv...are/b/586261434. Basically the guy says they don't want to force exploration on the player. That they want the player to have the freedom to do what he wants.

Alright I know I'm being an annoying nitpicky fan now, but what if one did not feel Mass Effect 3 was very "Mass-Effect-y"?

Particularly, I felt the lack of exploration and lack of more story emphasis or atmosphere like ME1 and ME2 was quite jarring.

Not to say it was as jarring as the difference between all three dragon age games.

You're not annoying or nitpicky when you explain the way you feel about the differences. All opinions are valid. The Mass Effect games in the trilogy all served a purpose, and were geared more towards their purpose. Having an exploration focus in ME3 would have been problematic for the tone and the structure. They each told a story, and part of a larger story. They were all still Mass Effect games though, and felt like Mass Effect games to me.

And there's definitely a good few lessons learned from the 3 games, and those learnings are put forward into the next Mass Effect. This won't tell you much anything about the game, its story, its structure, or anything, but it is a Mass Effect game. :)

I'm gonna cry.. is ARKCON a thing? How did I end up in a "fandom". I didn't think I was that person .... until I was. Gah... you're all evil. Oh to be in the know! I WISH was in the position to say, "Sorry NDA".  Give..me... something.... :(

lol, I've often thought the same thing.  But then again, maybe it's age.  Maybe it's wisdom.  Maybe it's the fact that I know that I'll get drunk one night and spill my guts all over the boards.

Well, if it gets like the DAI Twitter thread, there will be drinking games on a Sprint Review Day, or two. "They said,  'Exploration'! Drink!"

yep.

Pathfinder seems to hint towards exploration, which the game is supposedly about. Or at least it's an integral part of the story. I have a feeling this is the new Cerberus.

Get out of the house. now.

In all seriousness thats what I thought of. If it's taking place after ME3, especially a destroyed state (they will have to pick a canon ending, don't see how they couldn't) it would make sense that you're trying to find habitable planets, or a new homeworld or something. But I could be wrong.

Also here are two snaps I took of the Bioware Base where the panel was being held. Again, wish I had asked about ARKCON during the QA. They did say toward the beginning they were going to announce something new, but think they ran out of time.

Not saying it was going to be ME related. I was hoping for single player DA DLC to be brought up, but Laidlaw did let "slip" about the Architect being involved I believe.

I wonder though if they were anticipating any questions about ME:Next and the ARKCON shirt?

You mean the freedom to do what the developers want us to do in order to end up with 70+ game hours after completing the main quest no matter how we proceed, because... companion quest and main story gating through some arbitrary scoring system like War Assets or Power.

For the last time. We don't want Mass Effect Inquisition. If that's what Bioware has in store they can go back to the drawing board :/
