Honestly, I don't blame the devs for avoiding BSN.  It's gotten very toxic since DA:I's release.  Well, on the DA:I forums, at least.

DA:I forums in a nutshell:

Spoiler

.....who's ADB?

edit: nvm. i don't care. there's always some shill, somehow, someway.

It is very elitist because you get instantly banned and permanently if you misbehave.

Nah, that's only for junior members. If you're a Junior member you have to watch your back since you're on a "one strike" policy, where saying or doing something stupid will get you perma banned, just don't go full retard and you'll be fine.

If you manage to reach full member status, then you'll find that you can actually get away with a hell of a lot, and I really do mean, a HELL of a lot. Some crazy stuff goes on in off topic.

The amount of juniors who go full retard and get themselves banned is ridiculous, especially since most of those bans could easily have been avoided.

Rule 1 of being a junior member on NeoGAF, don't go into any threads discussing sexism, racism, or some other ism or any controversy, they ALWAYS turn into a grave yard for junior members. Save your opinions on those subjects for when you're a full member, since your status gives you some form of cover.

Anti-Dalish Brigade.  The Clique and ADB are both troll groups that actively go out and derail threads.  Especially Mage vs. Templar and elf threads.  The only thing worse than a group of trolls is an organized group of trolls, and both the Clique and ADB are just that.

Had my share of run-ins with them and it's never pleasant.

I don't even know how to join NeoGAF. I guess I registered a long time ago but never got an email.

Yeah, that's where it gets tricky. You can't use a free email account to register, it has to be a paid, work or school email account, and then after that you need to wait for your account to get activated before you can start posting, which can take up to 6 months - 1 year.

My account got activated within a week, but I'm an anomaly, be prepared to wait a couple of months. If you don't accepted after a year then try again with a different email.

Ran into a couple of them off of BSN as well, but only once or twice.  It's people like the Clique and the ADB that make BSN so hostile that I don't even want to roam the forums anymore.  Luckily, they completely avoid the DA MP forums.

Sometimes I actually miss the old BSN...

I may be biased (i don't have enough time to lurk these forums as I would like), but the ME forums are nice and clean from what i read.

NeoGAF is a prestigious forum populated by an elite cadre of hardcore gamers, developers, industry insiders, and journalists.

Q: What would you get if you mixed 20 industry insiders and journalists with 100,000 4chan posters on their best behaviour?

A: Neogaf, if they got 15 more industry insiders and journalists to sign up.

Anyway, I'm saddened that DAI isn't a template for the next Mass Effect.  There's so many stories to find in DAI!

Pbbbthh.  I use my work email for work.

I'll stick with a free account, thanks.

I think they're avoiding the main forums because they want to hear what gamers in general think (casual, hardcore, new to the series, and non-fans), and not the hardcore fans who either want unrealistic changes, or no changes at all.

That, i believe, is because there is almost nothing about the next game and i fear when we get close to the release date this place will be full of trolls too.

For now. It was like a civil war in here after ME3. I ran like a refugee to the DA forums. And it could get pretty rough and tumble even before that. Right now it's pretty dead, but that's not gonna last.

Happened with DA:I.  It'll happen again with ME4.

Jos, can you at least say if you are thinking of implementing Tressfx? After playing Tomb Raider, Mass Effect's hair makes me weep.

Her hair was gorgeous in that game. Sometimes I'd just move her side-to-side just to watch it.

That game ruined all other games in terms of what they could do with hair physics.

DAI forums are nothing like the ME3 were.  It's like comparing a summer shower to a hurricane.

Honestly, I wasn't on BSN during the initial fallout from ME3, so I didn't really experience much of it.  Then again, I also stuck to the MP threads- which are generally pleasant- for the most part.  Missed the whole locking of the romance forum as well.

Guess I got lucky, huh?

Very. Twas the worst of times. I was on vacation and didn't get a chance to play on release day, but I checked the forums often. Hype levels were through the roof for me, but I slowly watched it deflate for the majority of people, turning shock into confusion, bitter disappointment, and eventually utter raging, trolling, and hating.

There was some constructive feedback, but it was like a few diamonds surrounded by a wall of fire tearing apart everything from the devs and how much they bombed, arguing amongst players about the validity of ''artistic integrity'', some solid ground wars on whether the indoctrination theory was true or not, the pro-ending people bringing out flame shields the size of planets in order to say that ''people just didn't get what Bioware was doing'', a poll of 100 000 people saying they need a new ending....

Ugh, I'd rather not remember anymore. It was an embarrassment that was way overblown out of proportion. A right to criticize and bring feedback is always welcome, but sending death threats and publicly hating on the devs and BSN members as well is just insane. Some of these people acted as if Bioware had done something horrible to their lives akin to killing someone....

Glad we have a much more friendly, constructive, and happier forums now  :)

I was on BSN in the middle of the MassEffect 3 "fallout", and I didn't think it was that bad. I was on a media blackout until about 4 days after the game was released, so maybe I missed it? Or the moderators did a really good job?

The DA:I forums are far from any of that, but I'll just assume you're talking about the ME forums.

Anyway, I suppose we've been off-topic for long enough.  Bring on the tweets!   :D
