Well, hmmm. That was an interesting read. Lessee:

Talking Elcor plushies that are somehow distantly related to Bonobos.

Mass Effect Dance Party which was just brilliance on a stick. Cannot believe I've never seen that.

A giant image of a tumbleweed which just about broke my heart.

A deep suspicion that someone else has taken over Mac's twitter...

**not really interested in a war table or ems thing because not really interested in commanding large armies again. However if so, then I'd like more of the mini missions to lead to something in which I could actually participate, or see happening.

**I love mystery, but I also love shooting things and explosions.

Grave disappointment that indeed we will not have a space discoroom.

I think that's one reason why I love Leviathan DLC so much.  It really does feel as though there's a mystery there to be solved.

That's sort of the feel the Reaper mystery used to have before they became straight up supervillains.

Never thought about it, but now that I did, you are definitely right.

Sure, but I'm just saying: given the styles of ME and ME2, I think it's natural to wonder why ME3 - in gameplay terms - lost a lot of the open environments and non-combat activities. Even tonally, it was less "oh wow look at the wonder of space" and more like "everything is screwed we're all dead, war war war i was born in london". I don't fault people for wondering where the next game is going, given that its immediate predecessor was mostly about shooting with some conversations in between. Whether the story would've supported a different type of game isn't really that relevant, if people are mostly concerned about how the gameplay will change or stay the same going forward.

ME3 was a war game because the story made sense for a war game, but maybe also because war games sell better and have easier MP integration and are easier for new players to understand and might even be a nice justification to improve the combat experience. We don't know which of the above things were most influential, but I hope there's enough reason for ME Next to return to some of the stuff we saw back in the first game.

you're looking at the style. I'm looking at the story.

I agree that Mass Effect lost that "Ooooo! Ahhh!!!" a little as we moved to ME3. Not enough time to stop and look at sky boxes. but in fairness, 3 HAD to deliver a sense of urgency; one that's not conducive to stopping and smelling too many roses along the way.

exploration is a major theme for the next one. so I'd expect that to carry over to the kind of story we're getting. I'm excited!

Given the tone, darkness and tragic story of ME3, I'm not so sure what we are getting into next.

After ME1 and 2, I wanted to crush the Reapers and win the day.  I wanted the Reapers ground into cosmic dust, and then take my blue space babe off on a grand adventure.  After the music of the suicide mission in ME2, and all of the hype for ME3, I was sure I would be looking at a fun and kick-butt game - you know - actually Taking Earth back.  What I got was....   just not hitting the nail on the head for me.

There is a balance between mystery, discovery, unravelling plots and grand schemes, as well as lots of kicking in doors and having some insanely fun shootouts.  If they can get it right with those aspects, as well as weave in tension and release, then I think I can get behind whatever they are planning.  In other words, if the story or the game has a huge overall arch of dark desperation that builds to a huge tension, then I want the opposite for the ending.  I want to end on a high note - even if it kills my hero.

There is a difference between winning and accepting a solution - and that all boils down to how much fun you are having.

Maybe next time around they will get it right.

That was the appeal of the ME Franchise for me, exploring the galaxy and finding those dark mysteries and lovecraftian threats beyond human understanding perhaps mixed with a little bit of futuristic James Bond thrown in as well. They completely lost me with the whole conventional warfare approach they took in ME3. Actually the endings were the least of the problems to me in the final game.

But it did end on a high note.  You took Earth back; you saved the galaxy from the reapers.

This is where I think most people get it wrong.  Symbolism and reality.  Both were present and both emerged in the ending of ME3, and I think some people saw the reality, but missed the symbolism part.  Or vice versa.  On one hand, you have to give of yourself altruistically to save humanity, to save all sentient life, in the galaxy.  Some it newly born, as in the case with EDI and the geth.  Some of it spanning millennia.  On the other, you have to die.  Most people look at only one or the other.

Or you can do neither, which is the refuse option.  But these events are already set in motion, you've just spent the last 120+ hours of your life leading up to this point.  All of it, some would say it got a tad over repeated, the reapers are coming.  So, I mean, it all comes down this.  What would you do?

For me?  The choice was, and is, logical.  There's very little emotion to it.

The fact is that, for some people, it's not about saving the galaxy or the plot holes they keep bringing up.  It's the fact that Shepard is not coming back.  If they can dismiss the ending, they think they can bring Shepard back.

OT: Quick, someone in Bioware tweet something about #space!

No, it ended on a bad note.  I betrayed the Geth.  I befriended them, resolved the conflict with the Quarians, then used them to fight the Reapers.  Synthetics and organics fighting side by side for survival.....   Then the Devs made sure we killed them.  They made sure EDI died too.  Honorable allies stabbed in the back.

How is that that pathetic and appalling treatment of our allies "Ending on a high note" ?  Its absolutely loathsome.

Well seeing as how players have the option to betray Wrex by stabataging the genophage (and killing mordin if Wrex is still alive). Also the geth can also die on Rannoch some people (which means betraying Legion) which would mean EDI is the only one who dies in the destory ending. ME3 had a lot of oppetunities for Shepard to betray allies and some cases such as Wrev being the leader of the krogan betraying him is the best option it may not be the best option for you but for others its actually suits them.

I wouldn't call it betraying your ally, I call it doing what it takes to defeat the reapers. That's how play my femshep.

Awesome! I hope they record and share some of these scenes after the release; I thoroughly enjoyed watching mo-cap sessions from the Last of Us.

And I encourage a ninja-Hrungr! You have perfected the art within the confines of Twitter and become the undisputed master there... now it's time to venture forth and put it to the real test :P

May the collective hrunger for information keep your resolve ever unshaken. *salutes*

Hopefully, although we shouldn't expect perfection just yet; there should still be way more dialogue than can be motion-captured, so for now I'd still expect animations to be recycled numerous times.
