I'm not convinced this is real.

Hundreds of explorable planets? Sounds... extremely unlikely. Not to mention the sheer tedium that would set in after the first dozen or so. Another Prothean-style ancient race with ruins and tech scattered across the galaxy? Hmm...

Wells going back to my original post about this...    Is it closer to 100?  Or is it closer to 500?  Or is it closer to 999?

Because let's say on average systems have five planets.  100 / 5 = 20 systems.  That really isn't all that much farther than what we're already used to with ME3.   Unless you can visit each of them and then it's a whole new ballgame.  But I'm thinking that this game is gonna return us to ME1 levels of freedom.  Take it or leave it.

Unless most of those are planets you scan like in ME2 and ME3.

Well the rumor says, "Planets: hundreds of surfaces to explore..." which is way too many. Even just scanning hundreds of planets sounds tedious. This sounds like someone who's taken a bunch of rumors floating around and padded it out with their own guesses...

BioWare originally wanted way more uncharted worlds in ME1 than what we got in the end.

This could just be the usual overambition.

It was bound to happen. This is what happens when Bioware doesn't divulge any details on one of the most anticipated franchises. Keep it in the dark long enough, someone is bound to release information, legit or made up.

Only one way to silence these people who are trying to stir the pot. Give us actual information on the game. (I know... E3. BioFan's countdown keeps it in perspective)

Shinobi602 from NeoGaf re: planets:

About the planets: I was told they have a certain toolchain or some program (forgive me, tech isn't my strong suit) that's crafted for them in Frostbite 3 that's allowing them to generate terrain/create planets through a random generator. They go in afterwards and tweak and detail each planet to make them unique and their own thing.

With that, the target was around 100 planets so I'm unsure where that stands now.

I am just reposting a reply from somewhere else, I am not claiming this to be true, false, or trying to make a statement.

But if I were to make one, let me just say that, in the event the leak proves true, especially when it comes to exploration, my reaction will be this: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAOMGOMGOMGOMGAAAAWESOMEEEEEEEYESYESYESSSSSSSSS.

Eep :)

I'll post it here, too, I guess, since I know some of us only ever really check the twitter thread. Aaryn Flynn posted a science-y reply to something in GAF's big thread on the alleged leak:

http://www.neogaf.co...1031314&page=27

The page it occurred.

http://www.neogaf.co...&postcount=1346

The response itself.

Yeah, who really cares about any fundamentals of writing, you know? We can walk around places in space.

How would the leak be contrary to the "fundamentals of writing?" Just because the next Mass Effect is not necessarily a direct continuation of the plot threads or even setting of the previous games does not mean that there is anything wrong with its setting per se. It may not be your cup of tea, sure, but that is no reason to be dismissive of other people being excited about the ideas in the "leak."

It is much easier to get excited about distinct gameplay opportunities than to pass judgment on incomplete story and setting details. Just because other people don't share your sense of dread and unease about the next Mass Effect's setting doesn't mean there aren't things other people can be excited about.

Aw, come on, why be so negative about something there literally is no information about at this point? We do not know anything about the story itself, the overarching plot, the conflicts or the characters. What we do (kind of) know is that there will be tons of exploration. So, looking at the things we do have available and finding them sounding to my liking, I got excited about those things and how they sounded. As regards the remaining, currently entirely unknown, aspects of the game, I shall form an opinion, as well as adjust my overall mindset towards the game, accordingly and on the basis of what is revealed/shown. At this time, however, I think it is too early to comment or form an opinion on the as-of-yet unmentioned features.

Live and let squee, my friend. Live and let squee :)

I can tell you what you would find, regardless of which planet you landed on:

1) some minerals to survey

2) an artifact to recover

3) a crashed probe to loot

4) and the same dungeon you found on every other planet in the galaxy.

I found I did a lot of driving on the planet I was on

Well, for one they are tossing their established lore out the window by making intergalactic travel achievable by a cycle that can't even travel within their own galaxy without technology left behind for them.

"The next Mass Effect game takes place in the Helius Cluster (a cluster of 100s of solar systems in the Andromeda Galaxy), far removed by time and space from Commander Shepard’s heroic acts and the final events of the Mass Effect trilogy".

Nothing got tossed out of the window.

They mean because even at FTL speeds it will take centuries to get to Andromeda. If they meant they built it in the Post-Reaper War Milky Way before leaving, then they'd still have to address the endings making the entire point of going to Andromeda pointless.

And lo, the Twitter thread deraileth, and the users gazed upon it with fear in their hearts, for it contained no Tweets for 2+ pages. "Begone, Tweets", they clamored, for surely their topic of conversation could not be held elsewhere. "Nay", said the Tweets, "for we desire a place to call our own, and this thread has lush and verdant grounds".

Well, a lot can happen when the story is  "far removed by time...from Commander Shepard's heroic acts and the final events of the Mass Effect trilogy".

Why would "addressing the endings" make going to Andromeda pointless? Are you assuming that everything is "sunshine and bunnies", to quote Joker" after the war? After war comes rebuilding.  War takes a toll on resources.  The leak also talks about colonization as a focus.  Like in real life, people flee their homelands when resources becoming an issue.  It's not inconceivable that resources, post war, are an issue.

Also, sci-fi movies are full of tropes about the need for humanity to colonize other planets because Earth is running out of resources.  This wouldn't be much different.

Point takeneth. Let us eschew further derailement, whereby we unwittingly cause ourselves to don the very requisites of a mumpsimus; lest the Twitter Thread become subject to a termination most untimely and we, the denizens, the beholders, the very creators of this fecund, lush land wherein tweets were destined to thrive and frolic, the thralls of much anguish and woe and despair.

...sorry guys. I had to IT WAS TOO TEMPTING I REGRET NOTHING

I know I asked for some evil stuff on page 666, but I did not want this derailment.  At least the discussions have been civil, but lets talk about the leak in its own thread please.  We wouldn't want to anger Jos now would we?

Yes... more discussion on taking pics of cats in an office, or new plush dolls, please!!

... but in all seriousness, I guess there is a thread for the 'leak'.  Just hard to get mad when there's discussion about the actual game at hand, even if they are just rumors.
