True, it's just... "Convenient Wormhole" in a setting that has never had wormholes seems a bit jarring.

Welcome to my side of the fence.

Tbh, I actually found it weird the past games never had one

Google Image Search tells me that this is a supermassive black hole.

I'm not some science expert, but I'm pretty sure black holes and wormholes are two different things.

Why assume convenient? Science fiction wormholes are rooted in real world physics, they are theoretically possible (admittedly with a stupidly high amount of energy), so it wouldn't seem jarring to me if they were used. Much less jarring than flying to Andromeda under lore established propulsion methods.

Theoretically, if a black hole and a white hole somehow got connected it would result in a wormhole. Not that anything other than energy would survive, but maybe something going FTL with heavy doses of space magic would be different.

Depends on when its happening.  If the journey follows Ark Theory and occurs during the Reaper war, then discovering a wormhole at just the right time does seem rather convenient.

Well, the usual SciFi uses for it are already filled by Mass Relays.

I'm not opposed to it, just surprised.

Yeah, but I mean, convenient-yet-possible might be the best we can do in order to move the series to Andromeda.

Maybe a Reaper chases them and then the wormwhole happens

I guess, but I think it is far too soon to assume ark theory. I have always thought a voyager/odyssey type event would be better.

Joker "Hey Shepard!" "If you just would have looked a little over to the right, you might have seen that rather large wormhole over there!"

Shepard "Wha......???"

Wellp, that's one way they could do it, I suppose.

Yeah I guess but between a convinient black hole/wormhole and a 'conventional' few-hundred years journey to Andromeda I think I would actually prefer the latter

Unless this is all an extremely elaborate plan to surprise us with the real reveal of something totally different...

Indoctrination Theory finally revealed! :o

I can maybe see them doing a teaser trailer for their E3 reveal. Anything larger than that would surprise me.

Unless the game is already slated for  2017 then they don't exactly have much time left NOT to have big reveal

I realize I worded that poorly. I meant they could put out a teaser in the next few weeks and then still have a big reveal at E3.

Ahh get it now. Hmmm, Ubisoft did that when Unity leaked, then proceeded with full reveal at E3

Maybe, but for me avoiding the ending consequences by leaving before the Crucible fires is the entire appeal of the idea.

Well I always thought the best time to do it was as the crucible was activated, and you could easily say the effects of the crucible didn't effect the ships sucked in. You have all the species you want gathered in the fleets in handy location. The crucible releases a burst of immense energy which is exactly what a wormhole needs. It would then collapse an instant later having sucked in whichever ships the writers wanted. It even looked a little like a wormhole when Joker was running away from it. And the people sucked in were not running away from the reapers, that's a big plus to me.

Yeah, I could still get behind a story where the shift in locations was a result of an accident/event. Randomizes the people being transported too, so you'll get a decent variety of characters. I always envisioned this type of scenario transporting the ship(s) to a random, unexplored section of the Milky Way, though.

This is getting better and better.

If they don't completely soil themselves with bad science and plot contrivances in the first few minutes of the game I will sing songs of praise.
