My office walls are super thin, so today I get to hear the non-stop roar of the Mako engines as it does its thing.

Oh man, my hype is ramping up. I mean, I've been telling the missus that at every convention or Bioware event of any sort,
I'm always telling her, "This is it! We are finally going to know what ME:N is all about!"
Then those conventions or events come and go and she laughs at my misery. So hopefully this time, when I tell her that E3 is the day... Maybe she'll stop laughing at me.

During today's review the screen went off while @tibermoon was driving the Mako. Back on it was still rolling fine. Nothing stops the Mako.

Driving blind ftw.
I think that was more a testament to Ian's excellent driving abilities. Heavily contrasting his combat abilities.

Hah I have been doing this exact same thing to a friend for the past few years, last time yesterday. He usually rolls his eyes and says "that's exactly what you said last year" to which I reply "I know but this time it's different because it will actually happen! I will bet you a round of drinks!"
Man I am tired of paying for beer.

Picked a horrible week to come. Just came out of some fantastic summer weather on the weekend.Scylla Costa @scyllacosta
Just arrived in Montreal for a Mass Effect short week.
Now it's been raining non-stop since this morning. Shorts and tees 24 hours ago, now long sleeves and thick sweaters.
At least the snow is gone

Sounds like Maine. Two weeks ago I was wearing a parka, last week I was wearing shorts, and today I have my fall jacket. Its 4 seasons in 5 days.

To me it seems like people miss what the Mako represented: a bigger emphasis on exploration of uncharted places and more freedom to find new stuff out in space. The Mako was a vehicle for the wild unexplored frontier, which wasn't really an environment that we saw much of in the sequels.
Sure the handling was horrible, but ME1 was a significantly different type of game to its sequels because of the Mako, and I don't think it was necessarily an improvement that ME2 and (especially) ME3 focused so much on combat at the expense of exploration.

Good point - because ME1 had exploration AND combat. A Thresher Maw could ruin the day of an unsuspecting driver. Geth traps, ambushes...... One should not be using ones omni-tool while driving the Mako, trust me. I've fallen off of mountains in the Mako from so high up I was amazed that I didn't get a Critical Mission Failure.
Not to mention I did stuff like try to get onto the lower part of the Prothean Skyway, or drove off of some suicidal cliffs mainly because I thought I could shoot cannons all over and drive at the same time. It's a bad idea, trust me. Ohhh, that was lava? My bad.
As long as they keep exploration dangerous, I'm happy. And by dangerous, I mean certifiably dangerous - as long as its not "Duelling Banjos" kind of dangerous.

I thought the Mako did a good job of breaking up the pace and also "setting up" the world, ie: Virmire, Feros and Noveria would've felt a lot tinier if you didn't physically travel those sections. Obviously the planet exploration needed improvement though, sometimes it felt less like exploration and more just "drive to point A over annoying mountains". Done well in an open world-type game though it would be a lot of fun.

ME1 was a game about exploration with not much to explore (same generic "dungeons" over and over again plus loot not worth the effort) and the exploration itself was no fun (Mako driving).
Exploration did not save ME1 from being a big flop, it was the epic story and the character interaction.
I hope BW can bring the exporation part up to what the vision they have this time. Or at least make the story and shooter gameplay good enough to cover up the explorartion part again.

To be honest I really liked the level design of Feros/Noveria/Virmire/Liara's planet, and I missed that vehicle action in the levels of the later games.

If you guy's think the Mako's handling is horrible then you must have not played any of the old Need for Speed games with a keyboard. That handling was horrible. ( except for the 2005 original Most Wanted, that was good)

After playing Need for Speed for quite some time I didn't understand the hate for Mako handling when I started ME1 ![]()
