Ah, well, there's still plenty of time left prior to the license expiring for things to change, in any case.

TOR's a no-fly zone for me, unfortunately. MMOs simply do nothing for me. It's a shame, but it is what it is. I've watched a few cutscenes, game seems cool enough to be sure.

Funnily enough, SWTOR is the only MMO that does anything for me.  It was the only one that held my attention long enough for me to get to the level cap because I could basically approach it as an RPG.

That's what I came to realize as well. I had never played an MMO before, but after the first couple of planets, it gets old really fast. Go to planet, grind a hundred quests, save said planet, etc. I found the actual main story to be quite interesting, but it was surrounded by so much MMO stuff that I had to get through that first. 10-20 hours running back and forth on a planet so I could finish its fetch quests, and finally I could enjoy my reward in terms of a 20 minute main story segment.

I managed to tough out about 500 hours so I could finish my Jedi Knight's story (all side-quests on every planet included). The only thing that kept me going was the Star Wars setting and the Bioware RPG touches like dialogue and story. I'm sure if I tried something like World of Warcraft I would give up real quick.

If they had made TOR into a KOTOR 3 with multiplayer in the form of PVP (or even microtransactions like ME3), it would have been perfect. Alas, I wait... thinking about what it could be:

https://www.youtube....h?v=9jwW7ZBi8dg

Seeing this made me teary :crying: . KOTOR was my first console game. I was 6 when I first played it...

It would have been far cheaper and probably had a better ROI too...

My dreams for a KOTOR 3 remain unfulfilled then  :crying: ... Thanks for the correction

(SWTOR is a decent game, but I just don't like the constant grinding of MMOs, and KOTOR 1 and 2 were my childhood. What I would give to have a proper sequel...)

I doubt there will be a direct sequel because SW:TOR already continues the storyline, but I would not rule out the possibility of Bioware doing another single player RPG set in the star wars setting. Disney look like they are pushing it (and first impressions are good) so there is every chance imo.

Austin's primary duty is still TOR as far as we know, right?

They're actually working on DAI DLC to some degree. I believe they mention it in the SR cancellation memo. I'm planning to go visit them when I'm back there in September. See what's going on, and report back what I'm legally allowed to  ;)

TOR is the only MMO I've tried and let me tell you that despite the Bioware flair in some sections, it is soul-crushingly boring.

Unless you socialize, and nobody really wants to socialize.

And that's one of the more narrative oriented ones. Don't even try other mmos.

I'm a little sad about Shadow Realms. I mean, I was really hoping it would be a single player game. I would have enjoyed that. The weird azz school for your main hub. And then--from what I could understand--a kinda hoping through to different times and..well, realms. Preferably with a couple of buddies from the school with diff specs. It could have been a great SP game.

Yeah, that was a bummer. I would have loved a SP urban fantasy rpg from Bioware.

At least we have the new IP to look forward to :).

Huh, Austin working on DAI DLC is fascinating.

chris, I'd have loved a KOTOR 3 so much, too, and I only played KOTOR for the first time q year and a half ago, even. I can only imagine the connection you have to it. Reminds me of my late 90s/early 2000s childhood love of Squaresoft JRPGs. Also, 6, huh? You're probably like a decade younger than me! I was 16 when it came out. Sheesh!

The same for me. If you dont view it from an mmo perspective there is a lot of hard work gone into its story and world design.

Great to see amazing games in the making by 3 studios acting as 1 team dedicated to quality and interactive storytelling #BioWare Meeting

What's the third studio? I thought it was just Edmonton and Montreal.

Edit: Oh wait, they said months ago that Austin was helping out too.

Isn't that going to be a multiplayer, though? Correct me if I am wrong but I seem to recall Casey Hudson et al. hinting at the fact during last years's E3.

Yes, I think it's some combination of multiplayer and emergent storytelling.

I don't think we'll hear much about it this year though, not until they reveal more about ME;N.

Ah, blegh, I thought the multiplayer hinting pertained to Shadow Realms. Kind of sad that the chances of my getting into the next game David Gaider's involved with just got slimmer. I'll try to keep an open mind, but as it stands I like to think I know my gaming tastes pretty well.

I suppose if there's any developer capable of shifting my mind on this it's going to be BioWare.

Yeah, if it happens to be heavily social/MP like Shadow Realms, they lost my vote.

I hate people. :P

Thank you for the clarification.

Also, ackgh (yes that is a sound the human vocal chords can actually produce). I play BioWare games to spend less time around people, not more. Except for when I play ME3 multiplayer. That I play to Vanguard-Charge steal kills from people and make them angry :D I'm hateful like that.

It's not even that I hate people! I love people. I'm generally a people person, being an anthropologist and such. But as soon as there's a multiplayer element involved I'm never really engaged with the stuff I love most about video games anymore: the rich, cinematic, and immersive storytelling (and in BioWare's case, its delightfully interactive choice-based component).

I can't look at a character being played by another person as a character within that world. It's another person running around with their avatar jumping up and down for no reason and bouncing about at the speed of light. It pulls me out immediately and makes me entirely too aware I'm not a Warden saving Ferelden or Shepard saving the galaxy or Cloud fending off Sephiroth and Shinra, I'm a constructed avatar doing game things while surrounded by other constructed avatars who are also doing game things. It's all a facade. And I've never seen a multiplayer game succeed at cinematic storytelling nearly as well as studios like BioWare Edmonton, Naughty Dog, and Squaresoft have, either.

As I said, I'll try to stay open about it should it prove to be the case. It's not impossible that Edmonton has unlocked some previously-unknown methodology, some new breakthrough in the concept, that will keep me merrily feeling as if I've stepped inside Thedas, or out into the galaxy, as a singular would-be hero in a sprawling world charting an epic narrative. It's not impossible. Just kinda unlikely.

Also I'm not much for social media either. Internet forums and the occasional twitter resurgences are all I really engage with. I'm far more enthusiastic about interacting with people face-to-face. Online gaming's probably never gonna hook me as far as that angle is concerned. If and when I want to "recall the feeling of going on a grand tabletop adventure with my friends" I'll just call 'em up and tell 'em to bring something over.

Haven't played it (only played SP) but Dead Space 3 coop gameplay had largely positive reactions. You could not jump in Dead Space ;) That said, I totally understand where're you coming from, I feel the same way.

Wait, where's this coming from exactly, because it sounds like Shadow Realms and I wasn't aware we had this kind of information on the new IP.

Casey's thing from E3 last year, I don't remember it exactly but he talks about being able to play stories with your friends that are different every time you play them, or something.

Well, I just rewatched the trailer thing from last E3 and he doesn't say anything like that actually.  Or do you mean something else?

Ah, my mistake - it was actually Aaryn Flynn talking to Geoff Keighley in a GameTrailers livestream afterwards:

http://gamingbolt.co...-with-frostbite

Difference between the new IP and Mass Effect:

“I think the big differentiation is that Mass Effect as an IP has amazing story and go through this universe, and alongside that a new IP lets us do things that may be has multiple stories inside it, the world is living, it is always going on. You play your stories there as they get more emergent about what you are going to do if you make friends.”

On Multiplayer in the new IP:

“Ye, hope so. That is the plan.”

Oh, okay.

Seems kinda ambiguous about what it actually means for the presence of a SP narrative so I'll reserve judgement.
