Oh, okay.

Seems kinda ambiguous about what it actually means for the presence of a SP narrative so I'll reserve judgement.

If David Gaider is writing stuff for it then I expect there'll be a fair bit of narrative, but it sounds like they're going in some new directions as far as what sort of game this actually is.

Sounds like an RPG-esque stab at the whole "always-on" Destiny sort of affair, at a glance.

Maybe,

The trailer indicated a day/night cycle, so I think that and similar elements of "living world" sort probably account for the emergent comments.  I'm not sure the comment about making friends indicates other players or in game characters that can effect the narrative.  I'm kinda imagining something a little like a Witcher game at the moment.

Multiplayer is in, but could be a separate mode again.

Not really sure what it adds up to.

I'm optimistic. Considering these are the same people that brought us Dragon Age and Mass Effect

There's a sense of calm and contentment that comes over me when I've taken a load of spaghetti-looking logic and untangled it. #space

Haven't played it (only played SP) but Dead Space 3 coop gameplay had largely positive reactions. You could not jump in Dead Space ;) That said, I totally understand where're you coming from, I feel the same way.

It was great, but it was also an exception; that game was rpetty much designed as coop (I haven't played iot alone to compare, though).. It's sad that it alienated Dead Space fans, as it was extremelly fun.

Weapons crafting was also ludiscrously fun.

It could've been played alone (I did ) but some missions were locked away, saying that you need a coop partner to access them. I don't think that it was the coop element that alienated the fans, more that it became less survival and more action.

Weapon crafting was great! I also absolutely adore the user interfaces and retractable helmets. Bioware really should flesh out a lot of those minor details in their games :)

Oh sure; I say it's sad because it ended up hurting the game, which was a pretty good one for what it was. It probably sent the wrong message to EA, also, and we may never see the good things about it again.

Ideally, I think the game should adapt. Not lock the mission away as designed for coop, make it possible to play in a single player. But if accessing the mission in coop mode, generate new challenges, debris blocking access, more enemies etc. Elements that will make up for experience different from single player but do not change the mission much.

I'm waiting for Dead Space 4. The only DLC for the third managed to pull off Lazarus project and ME3 original ending in a few hours of content

Yeah, well, I mean..I love people. Theoretically. At arms length. Ha!. No, people are cool-ish. But I really get enough of them through the course of the day. I just feel like these companies are desperate to make the next big online thing so money can rain down on them. I can't really begrudge them that sentiment. Money's a beautiful thing. Not having money sucks donkey butt.

But come on now with that. Sometimes I feel like they're forcing these "PlayDates" on me like I'm 4 years old, "Oh! You like shooting things? He likes shooting things, too!" No. I do not want to share my escapist world with "n00bKiLLaH666". I don't even want to share the road with him. And I'm pretty sure it was "n00bKiLLaH666" that cut me off the other day, then flipped me off, and had me teetering precariously on the edge of full blown road rage.

Mind you, I did love ME3 MP. Loved it. What I like is a Meaty SP experience accompanied by a Quality MP experience. Do that and I'm yours.

I want another good SP game from BW. Another genre. Sure, put in some good MP, too. But I want more from BW. ME and DA are not enough.

Also I'm not much for social media either. Internet forums and the occasional twitter resurgences are all I really engage with. I'm far more enthusiastic about interacting with people face-to-face. Online gaming's probably never gonna hook me as far as that angle is concerned. If and when I want to "recall the feeling of going on a grand tabletop adventure with my friends" I'll just call 'em up and tell 'em to bring something over.

See, but I'm completely different.  I want somebody else to come up with the rules, I want somebody else to come up with the story, I want for somebody else to come up with everything.   I just wanna enjoy my time.  I don't wanna have to work at being a rules litigator, a story judge.

Call it me, call me selfish.  But being face to face sucks sometimes *cough*mostofthetime*cough*.  "No, I did roll the D20!"  "But you rolled it twice!"  "But that one time it fell on the floor!"

Ugh, are you serious?!

Well, you're a lucky then bastard if you can do that.

I live in the proverbial middle or nowhere when it comes to like-minded people, or even people in general really because the place has got less than a thousand inhabitants.

Still, same deal as far as online goes. It's almost worse than nothing because people scarcely behave like people online, both in games and social media.

Except these niche forums, they're alright.

Not sure how many people here have read Mass Effect: Deception, but I found something very interesting in the first 3 pages of the book.  Nothing to do with the story or plot of the book, but there's an auction.  And one of the items being auctioned off is a prothean "egg" (I think?) that contains a star map not from the milky way.  And I couldn't help but think of that one piece of concept art where there's the explorer looking at a star map.

Now, knowing what we know of the next mass effect game, I found this incredibly interesting.  So perhaps, once again, we're following the protheans on their path to another galaxy and then finding out about the remnant, etc.  Or anything else.

But again, I just thought it was interesting that in this book they remark about how the protheans most likely have traveled beyond the milky way.

If Mass Effect: Deception, of all things, ends up becoming a crucial clue to the plot of the next game I would die of laughter.

Here's the passage in "Mass Effect: Deception" Rahmiel said, for those interested.

"The first item in the catalog is a Prothean Egg, which, when activated, opens to reveal a holographic star map. And  because the map is not consistent with any part of known space, experts assume that the system depicted lies somewhere beyond our galaxy, and must have been important to the Protheans.

If so, and if the purchaser is able to figure out where these planets are, they might be able to claim a technological treasure trove so valuable that the cost of the egg will be negligble by comparison. Bidding will start at ten million credits. Do I hear eleven?"

There was a bid at eleven, followed by many more, and a final offer of fifty-two million, which was sufficient to secure the elaborately decorated egg for a beautifully dressed asari whose face was hidden by a carefully draped veil. Did she intend to find the star system projected by the egg? Or to place it on a shelf where it would serve as a conversation piece? Leng didn't know and didn't care.

I will find utterly hilarious if this Dietz rambling become the basis for NME.

Deception is not canon and nothing inside this book should be taken seriously. It never existed, okay? Okay.
