Ok here is the list

-snip-

I don't remember any of these games having more controversy surrounding graphical downgrades than Witcher 3 apart from maybe Watch Dogs.

What? Watch Dogs downgrade was way more criticized then TW3. The only thing that made TW3's downgrade in some way worse is the fact people didn't expect CDPR to do it, While it was somehow expected from Ubisoft.

Yeah, and so it was more criticised than Watch Dogs.

It can be a double-edged sword too, though - look at some of the lukewarm reactions to AC Syndicate when it showed very early code that was clearly a bit buggy. Any publishers doing this sort of thing would be assuming that the goodwill generated from being "honest" outweighs the marketing benefits of showing unrealistic versions of their games, but I'm not sure that's necessarily the case. Plenty of people seem to buy games because they have impressive demos or trailers, and might not even care that the resolution or graphics aren't 100% of what it looked like a year earlier.

I suppose the best solution would be to show an "honest" version of the game that looks good enough to wow the audience on its own merits and without resorting to artificial stuff, and that might be why they've taken so long to announce Mass Effect.

I know marketing a game is tough, you want to generate hype, but ideally I think you'd also like to try and avoid getting blasted by angry mobs at release. ;)

Which is why, like you say, it's best to wait (as long as the marketing department will let you  ) until you can show that "honest-as-you-can" version.

I remember how strictly marketing were in charge through the DAI launch.

Often there would be comments about whether some nugget of information was 'authorised' for release.

I expect the same level of control for ME:N.

DAI certainly avoided any downgrade debacle. In fact it looked better than I thought it would.

I remember this video .
Hopefully they learnt their lesson. I liked their approach in the Two last E3.

I'm not going to be able to watch until after the event but I don't want it spoiled. The problem is I only have a live stream link that may or may not have a rewatchable/downloadable video after the fact. So I'll have to come here to find a link and I won't be able to avoid all the talk

They are just trying to make it look like Hoth (the SW Battlefront gameplay they are showing is apparently set on Hoth).

Yeah, the last part of Moore's tweet was clearly about SW.
Though Mike confirmed he'll be there. That's a Good sign.

The reasoning in this image is pretty stupid (sorry if this seems harsh). Whoever made it didn't understand the ending.

Go on then, explain to us how the ending really was. How it was so DEEP and not just a deus ex machina that really needs to be understood.

There isn't even a reasoning behind the image; the guy who made it chose Destroy because he thought his quest throughout the trilogy was to end the Reapers - same as a lot of people.

Nope. Nope nope nope nope, let's not have that conversation here on the eve of what everyone has been waiting for months to see. Move along, no need to respond to this further (or to bring up the ending of ME3 in any way in this thread, really).

I can't wait to see actual Battlefront gameplay.

The Synthesis image should have Saren be what comes up in Shepard's mind, not some random Husk. Saren was an advocate for Synthesis since ME1.

Well IMO Saren was an advocate for a merging, not a synthesis. (AKA an overt submission to the Reapers)

Both are very similar, and I do know that there's evidence that Synthesis was to be called the 'Merging' ending, but merging can imply more of a physical combination, while synthesis can imply more of an ideological combination. That is to say that 'Synthesis' can express more of the concept of the Reapers themselves taking on values of organics/Shepard. AKA possibly a good thing, and not exactly what Saren ranted about.

Or not. Whatever. Its highly debatable, and I just decided to explore some thoughts here.

I mean that I hope it refers to a ME show, not some SW game...I know the line itself is from Star Wars :P
