I was feeling joy. Then Bioware drug it out back and shot it.

Because of the stupid font, I read it as holiday 2015... I whooped. I didn't realise...  It looks amazing but I wanted more and an 18 month wait? Aaaargh!

So much joy to be found from my favourite franchise going in the complete opposite direction I hoped it would, tearing down its established lore and universe and just starting anew basically. And getting a measly 2 minute cinematic trailer after 2 or 3 years of teasing (although I will admit it looked nice).

Many titles already switched "sides" this generation both ways, Call of Duty is doing it tonight. EA doesn't care for whatever Microsoft had to do with Mass Effect, they want marketing cash/DLC moneyhat

 

True, but I'd think that Microsoft would fight for that.

Not when it goes against the already established lore. 

LOL, like what?  Travel over long distances used to happen by train, guess what they came up with planes and cars.

 

They traveled by relays because they had no other way,  Some race or races discovered how to do so by worm holes.  There is almost no 'lore' in sci fi that can't be reworked if it is tech lore.

Treat it as a new Sci Fi IP and it might be great (like me) its definitely not Mass Effect

So we got a 2 minute cinematic trailer and a name for the game after 2 years of teasing. Still no good details on the game, but I'm really disappointed and not hopeful.

 

If you haven't read the Bioware blog, it basically says this takes place far away from and long after ME3 and is a completely new thing. I don't know about anyone else, but this is what gets me - I wanted to play games in the same universe that's already been built not a brand new one. I'm all for travelling to and exploring new galaxies, but I'm not a fan of getting rid of what we already had (call me nostalgic, I don't even care).

 

Mass Effect is by far my favourite franchise in media, but I'm really just not interested. They gave us concept art last year, they gave us a barebones trailer this year and we're not going to get anything substantial until next year. Add to that the concept is basically throwing away everything I loved about Mass Effect, and my interest in one of my favourite things has pretty much been lost completely. Thanks Bioware 

 

The only thing that really made me smile in that trailer was I saw a krogan for about a second, and it wasn't one of those horrible mutated things that we saw last year.
