I'm amused with all the gushing over this trailer. It looks pretty, but apart from that, it's really quite generic. It's told us nothing meaningful except that at least SOME aspects of the leak are true. I've been steeling myself for that, but it's still a disappointment. At least we've been shown nothing yet which makes it impossible for a future game to go back to the MW. I'll hold out hope until we get more info, but I won't be buying this if my fears are confirmed. I won't waste money on a JJ Abrams style approach.

As much as I'd love to get more info or see more of the game, I can't complain. It showed more than ME2's teaser:

ME1 still has the best teaser trailer, by far:

It showed us:

  • the title of the game
  • the release date
  • what it will approximately look like
  • two of the squadmate species
  • two new combat abilities
  • the return of the Carnifex
  • the new Mako
  • a few wildlife enemies

What more do you expect 1.5 years before release?

It told us more than I dared to hope from a trailer this early.

The name seems to track well; even before the trailer, there was alot of positive chatter on this forum about RP.

Well, the ME1 was not an announcement trailer. I think it was released quite close to the launch of the game.

A mechanic, a galaxy map, weapon mods, just 5 minutes of ACTUAL game. Hell even a screenshot of actual game! 1.5 years is NOT a long time for a game guys. They have at least SOME finished thing by now. No ones asking for a giant Bethesda style 20 minute monster info dump. Just 1 thing that is actual GAME, not a trailer that in no way reflects the thing we will be playing.

-Okay

-Only a very general release date, subject to change

- Looks like a sci-fi shooter to me

-in blink-and-you-miss-it shots

-which two?

-Ooh!  A gun!

-Okay I'll give you the Mako

-Targets to shoot at

How about story?  this is supposed to be a narrative-rich RPG as well, isn't it?

For starters, how the frak did humans get to Andromeda to begin with?  What are we doing there?  What sort of crisis are we facing?  When does this take place?

And finally, how the frak did humans get to Andromeda to begin with?

One and a half years before a potential launch is absolutely a long time for a game. Remember DA2 took 18 months to make? Just be glad Andromeda is taking longer.

The point is, this far out before launch we are lucky to be getting anything. The kind of thing you're asking for is what you should expect with less than a year till launch, closer to 7-8 months maybe.

A year and a half is an eternity in game development. Games can change wildly in that amount of time. So please try to have some patience. Excitement's fine but you're expecting a little much given where the game is right now.

One and a half year is still too far away to expect them to show ingame footage....maybe by the end of the year.

When a trailer isn't representative of the final game in any way (other than visuals and character designs) then I think it's automatically a bad trailer. ME1 had none of that distress-signal tracking in the way it was shown in the trailer.

Well, we have to consider the circumstances of where and when they were releasing this trailer. Did anything at E3 get gameplay footage that wasn't coming out this year or early next? Also, EA's conference time isn't unlimited, there are plenty of other occasions coming up where they can show off more information, and eighteen months is a really long time.

(ME2 and ME3 had less time between being announced with a trailer and being launched, so we've actually seen more of MEA now than at the same time in the previous cycles.)

It was intended as a cool first look at the game, not an information dump. The use of the Cash music is a kinda clever way to disguise that it's Mass Effect, and make people believe for a second that it's a sort of Wild West game, and sets the tone as something like a wild frontier.

I just hope the story wasn't locked down half a year ago or something... not that I want them to write under pressure until the last second like ME3, but I just hope that it somehow changes from what the leak implied. It sounded really dull to me.

Anyhow, ME:A seems to be following the same pre-release hype pattern as DA:I.

A rather vague trailer the year before its year of release and then maybe some exclusive coverage here and there, but any real and meaty footage is reserved for the months leading up to the release.

DAI's "Fires Above" announcement trailer included clear shots of Varric, Iron Bull, Cassandra, and Morrigan (who was narrating) and included shots of the Breach and a few enemy types.

After ME3, people are going to want more information before charging in to the next game.

Feeling the need to disguise it's Mass Effect is kinda telling...

Except we didn't. We got literally nothing but a graphical showcase with a scripted blink-and-miss-it shooting segment that might as well be a CG trailer for all the info it provides. Don't go to E3 if you have nothing to show people, E3 is to show your game to the world, your GAME. not Trailers. That's basically all EA brought to E3, stupid, worthless trailers and interviews with people that had NOTHING to do with games. That audience was DEAD from lack of interest. EA basically wasted everyones time. All EA showed was Unraveled and Battlefield with Star Wars paint. And of course EA Sports, sort of. (btw that poor Unraveled guy was dying up there. Could see him shaking in front of that dead crowd of people. Felt so bad for him).

Xbox is conducting an ongoing voting system in order to pick which games get added to the Xbox ONE! Everyone go and vote for Mass Effect 2 & 3! :)

(PS. This includes all previously-purchased DLC and save games!)

That's a really silly interpretation of why they did that, lol.

It's "disguising" nothing - in case you missed the enormous N7 logo and "Mass Effect Andromeda" all over the end of the trailer. The fakeout was a way of messing with the audience's expectations in a cool way, while introducing the new setting and theme of the game with a Johnny Cash song about the wild West.

Would you have preferred they showed nothing and announced no information about Mass Effect at all?

I understand people want more details but you are not entitled to them.

That's basically what we got, Nothing and no new information. I don't understand how you think this Trailer provided anything besides the Subtitle to the game. I'm not disappointed by a lack of information, I'm more annoyed that people seem to think this was some OMG amazing reveal of some kind, as if we didn't know the game was coming, and now suddenly thanks to that trailer everything is suddenly epic and cool.

It confirmed the survey leak which gives us quite a few details :P Also, we can finally move on from debating which galaxy/time it takes place in
