My E3 experience was punctuated by Andromeda's formal announcement but bursting at the seams with quality elsewhere. FFVII Remake trailer was the stuff of legends for me. That's still my second favorite game ever and even though I picked up on some of the last-minute rumors on GAF before the announcement, seeing it actually happen was mindblowing. Square in general won the year for me; there's an extreme renewed commitment to mid-budget and high-budget console JRPGs from them, including a brand new studio in Tokyo. This is my jam -- old-school JRPGs with save-the-world plots and memorable casts and atmosphere. Before BioWare, that was my scene, and when I didn't like where that scene was heading, I mostly quit gaming.
Plus Horizon looked nice and I'm happy to feel that way about a brand new IP. And MGSV is right around the corner and that has me ecstatic. And Uncharted 4 looks great.
I've noticed over the years that much of BSN's community is hot for Western fare, which is cool and all, but a lot of my stuff is still Japanese. I can't stress how aces it is to see/hear the right stuff from Square's new CEO.
But that was rambling and rambling in the twitter thread is bad and I should feel bad. I haven't had my coffee yet; I'm not supposed to be on BSN before I've had my coffee. To return things to where they're meant to be, the Andromeda trailer was mostly a spectacle for the simple reason that it gave veteran fans a real subtitle. It was well-made, but that was the "hype factors rising" moment for sure, is seeing the name and knowing there'll be a marked decrease in "#Space" as we move into a new era, an era with... proper nouns.
