Shepard's armor had lights in the back as well, you just don't see it in that image.
I kind of dig the lights on the armor. It gives it more of a Sci Fi vibe.

I'm good with lights on armor. They're striking and make for a nice profile when you're walking around or actually in combat(especially in the dark).

I'm pretty sure we're going to need more to go on... I think the trailer was analyzed to death within the first day.
