Can you guys please remove the Andromeda trailer and replace it with proper music that fits the Mass Effect universe?

Yanick Roy ‏@YanickRRoy

No, sorry, because there are very good reasons for that choice of song for the trailer that should become clear later on.

Yanick Roy ‏@YanickRRoy

The game's music itself will be much closer to what you would traditionally associate with "Mass Effect music"

I thought this was just BSN fuckery. How are normal people this dense?

You're assuming this isn't just an extension of said BSN shenanigans. They have Twitter, too.

Are people really so blind that they can't see that the wild west music tells a lot about the game and what to expect of it?

Nathan Filion and Gina Torres as protagonist VAs confirmed?

Are people really so blind that they can't see that the wild west music tells a lot about the game and what to expect of it? Like possible conflicts with the locals, dangerous expeditions, setting colonies and defending them, tons of resources waiting to be claimed, the mysteries and legends of this new land, technology vs the old... I couldn't care less about music (I barely even listen to music irl) but even I can see that it is telling us something.

Hm, it's interesting that they are confirming the music is indeed thematically connected to the game.

Time for CSI: BSN to go over everything about that song to see if we can find the reason they chose that particular song.

Well. The lyrics talk about demon cows who run through the skies and the damned ghost cowboys who have to herd them. (I'm paraphrasing, of course, but that's not wrong...)

Something about redemption, in that "you'll have to herd the devil's cows too if you don't repent!" sort of way.

...I would play that game, though. :bandit:

I love how people are still b*tching about the music choice for a teaser trailer. For those that don't like it, here, check this, maybe it fits your taste better.

*Sigh* People are still talking about the music? Yes it evokes the "wild west" element that there will clearly be in the story, but it also opened the EA E3 press conference with no fanfare. We weren't told what it was and so we were supposed to wonder for a few seconds what IP they were showing... Some new western shooter, maybe? And then it becomes clearer that it's Mass Effect as the trailer goes on. It was a clever idea that gets lost when you watch on YouTube.

If, as GamerMD83 suggests, the song is lyrically pertinent to the themes of Mass Effect, maybe the ghost riders are the Reapers in the Milky Way galaxy endlessly assimilating new species and then chasing the next. By going to Andromeda you're trying to break the cycle by escaping becoming the next addition to the Reaper fleet.

But this game is set AFTER Mass Effect 3, so clearly the Reapers are no longer a threat (unless you chose not to deal with the boy/AI on the Citadel - in which case, supposedly humanity is extinct, and so would probably be treated in the same way Shephard's possible death in ME2 was treated - i.e. unimportable)

The game takes place after, but it would presumably take a long time to get to Andromeda. It's quite possible that your mission was sent out as a contingency to save Citadel species during the events of ME3, and without intergalactic communications you don't know the fate of the Milky Way galaxy. You're effectively in Andromeda on your own, which would fit with the wild west theme. This has the side-effect of neatly side-stepping the massively divergent ME3 endings without forcing one to become canon.

Of course we don't know what the story is yet, so it's all just speculation.

Heck we don't even know how a trip of that distance is even possible.
