Those who favored the original Mass Effect cited the story and the sense of adventure. "It was rough around the edges, but the world was amazingly detailed," said one survey taker. "It was high-concept Proper Science Fiction, amazingly non-human-centric, with a real (if occasionally annoying) sense of scale to the zones. Shep was competent and dedicated, but basically just the right (hu)man in the wrong place, not The Chosen One. It was really, really refreshing and different and interesting."

Dang, I didn't write that response, but I could've...

And I would have absolutely agreed with you :D

Tbh, it worked in ME2. The drawback was that the locations were too small. Have larger "open-world" locations with different content and interesting missions like ME2 and you'll have a great exploration mechanic. The key is not to have loot as focus, not be repetitive and make the actual exploration process fun of which Mako driving is a large part.

                                                                         <<<<<<<<<<()>>>>>>>>>>

Geez! Do you really believe that Bio can raise the bar and make Mako exploration fun?

First your'e in the Mako that gets dropped from 100s of feet up in the air. Add that landing cinematic and I'm surprised anyone is still alive, let alone having a working backbone.

I still believe arial survey with a decked out sensor filled battle ready shuttle with anti-grav plates is more fun than driving a bouncing lumbago wrenching Mako. One, because you can dish out lots of Hurt. Two, how the Mako exploration in ME:A is "fun to do" remains a mystery.

Now, combat from a survey mission may become interesting if, when getting out of the Mako, you find yourself in the middle of a sandstorm or snow or rain filled area, reducing visibility.

And I agree that loot should not be the "daily" focus when exploring.

"Just pick a planet and go there" - Casey.

Exploration for the sake of exploration has never worked so far in ME, it was especially bad with the Mako. They have a lot of improving to do to make this work since this mako exploration will be the main feature. If they fail, it will be Inquisition in space.

I loved ME1's exploration, and especially the Mako. It was fantastic.

I do. Especially because its not that hard to do.

Aerial exploration might be more effective in RL and will be a preferred choice but in the context of video game it is boring. First, because you see more ground from your elevated position and if there is nothing there you just spend time flying across that terrain knowing that there is nothing there. In the Mako, you don't know what lies ahead and even if there is nothing, you are still kept interested throughout the journey. Second, because navigating the terrain presents additional thing to think about, which keeps the player interested. Third, because you won't have to land for every resource you discover from aerial exploration, you'll just exit the Mako.

And like you said, environmental hazards can make it even more fun.

As for physics stuff, its a video game after all and does require some suspension of disbelief. If you want an in-universe explanation, Mako has a built-in mass effect field generator and can downplay the force of impact. It also has thrusters that activate when landing and decrease the effect further. But even if you're not satisfied with this, we don't know if the Mako will actually land that way. They haven't showed it. Of course they did show it making crazy jumps in that E3 demo last year when Casey was still on board but a lot of things might've changed, since they continued working on the vehicle and tweaking it as evidenced by the dev tweets.

Mako is the worst part - that's why they improved it. No word on romances yet, though I expect less catsuit this time.

I am indifferent about the Mako, I prefer an aerial surveillance/exploring because it is more realistic. It would be nice to have them both but alas it is not so.

Even if the Mako was the best gaming vehicle in the history of gaming vehicles, it would still matter little. Exploration as a whole was bad in ME1, planets were just random mountains with different textures with not worth while to do in them.

Having a good vehicle is the least of my concerns with MEA. I believe Bioware will deliver a good one. My focus is in what will be able to use it for.

The only concern is that they focus on the graphics and mako mechanics so much they forget the big picture: the reason for the mako and exploration: the actual content of the maps. So basically what happened to Inquisition.

There you have it. My reason for distrust (DAI being one of them) and thus no pre-order attitude.

It makes me wonder why the designers went for "massive", want to show off the FB3's rendering capabilities, how dropping the old gen platforms frees them to create a new graphics experience, why there is so much effort in exploration activities?

Cost vs game complexity, may be a factor. So, creating pretty maps, slap on a Mako and there you have the focus on unleashing one's urge to go exploring into the sunset. Quite cheap to do. I might add.  DAI being a very complex game uses 40-45% CPU utilization at idle and remember the FB3 engine is optimized! I fear ME:A is the same.

Can one imagine the complexity of the game design if, say, Bio went for a good visceral game story with interesting branching paths and quests,  excellent dialogue lines between characters and  NPCs, superior combat AI controlled enemies, choices made that actually bite you in the butt, population areas that look alive

My take is ME:A, will be a game that is easy to learn, with pretty awesome Gs, lots of exploration to enjoy the Gs and button smashing combat,  an experiment with SP to MP to SP combat with the enevitable MP micro$transactions, LIs with brief nudity even when the game is rated M and ever so shallow romance, so-so dialogue,  statue like NPCs, repeatable lines when passing the same NPC or when in an elevator, poor hair style all around, no customizeable armour, poor idle/walk/jog/sitting animation, no importing of your CC face and changing it when in the game, HUB/colony  centres  with mannekin like NPCs or deserted (ME 1?), and  my piece de resistamce is getting Top Gear rquires you to enter MP combat from your SP game.

That folks, is my vision of this massive ME:A  game.... pessimistic I know. But, I base this on the fact that Bio must balance the game's Cost VS Complexity.

How do you get up in the morning living under such a cloud of doom? You have no basis for any of your apocalyptic scenarios (such as "brief nudity" - I can't tell if you want more or less) and some of them (such as "customizeablesic armour") have already been addressed. How about we wait until we know more than almost nothing before you start complaining that you didn't get the bespoke video game experience you demanded but were never once promised?

Who is complaining?  Did I use the word complain? And, I get up in the morning with the sun in my window, thank you very much.

Also, while you are correct regarding  our meager knowledge about the game I can speculate what the game is about based on tweets and past Bio marketing crapola about DAI and the ME games.... Notice, I do play them.

Last, I don't demand and stop putting words in my mouth.  I expect a game to be delivered as per their marketing

hype. I also expect value for my money.

Geez.. an adult would be amused at my speculations

Sorry to point it out, but it's not very amusing to post an enormous list of reasons why you think a game (that's over a year away and we know next to nothing about) will be bad in the ME: Andromeda Twitter thread.

Even if people actually wanted to talk about all that stuff at this point, that's what the entire rest of this subforum is for. If you wanted to share your predictions for the game, why not do it there instead of in a huge post here? It'll probably even get a more positive reaction.

I prefer using the mako to run over the geth and mercs. Its fun sending armatures into the lava on Therum when I hit them
