As an ex OS systems programmer, an application (DAI), that uses 40-46% of my six core CPU at IDLE,  I find offensive.

I call the FB3+DAI resource pigs, because they are. Absolutely ludicrous, in my eyes. But then, I come from the old school where a savings on a few bytes of memory or a few CPU cycles were causes for celebration. Certainly the early NASA computers that helped the boys to the moon appreciated the effort and results.

I agree with you that bugs get patched (most and eventually).... but it's the attitude man!.. an apparent acceptable practice and expectations to sell a game with bugs. Worse, many in these forums also seem to accept them as "normal".

Interesting.

I seem to remember the reason being that she was a huge fan of the Mass Effect series and fit the character they had in mind.

It's not like it's the only time Bioware's done that. Just look at the sweepstakes thing they did for DAI where two fans could be part of the game.

Wow, really?

Who were those two fans in DA:I?

Steven Kelly and Rosie Bucknell. They voiced some minor characters, like for example Steven voiced Pel Harmond and Rosie voiced Flissa.

Too bad you missed that Pyro Vorcha on Archangel's mission. :P

Oh believe me, I still give the designer who built that mission and stuck that vorcha there **** for it when it is relevant to a conversation. That pyro was the worst.

Dear Jos,

Be careful not to frustrate the hell out of players with clever use of obstacles and courses.  A few instances in DAI made me want to pull out my hair and claw out my eyeballs.  "We will put something the player needs up on a ledge, we will make it seem as if they can take this course and jump up top get it, but we will make the last jump too far and not let the person target the item.  We will have them walk around the bottom of a mountain and try an additional 5 ways of getting the item.  And we will do this for a fetch a one of 10 kind of item, not a core important item that should be though to get."

Not going to happen for stuff I work on. I like adding cool stuff that makes players feel smart, not frustrated. Enjoyment of a level/sequence/combat far exceeds my need to be a jerk to the player, priority-wise. :)

I borrowed my friend's time machine and went back to create this thread, just for you!

That was more an unconventional audition than a sweepstakes

I bumped the second iteration of the Known Features thread to the front page for you. I created it in late June, but haven't had cause to develop it further as yet. That'll change in November, probably.

The first iteration, as was linked to you in a previous post, works just fine right now as well. But new updates will be viewable only on the newer thread.

I agree, but when I played as an adept, a singularity took care of that pyro with ease

I honestly would not be surprised if Andromeda broke from that tradition. BioWare, like some other devs of late, seems to be bucking the trend of letting the hype machines roll from somewhat farther out than they may consider "necessary." I'm seeing that in a few of their practices. I think it's entirely possible we won't get anything truly substantial until June 2016 (next year), doubly so if there's a delay inbound.

Of course, you could also be correct, and I'd love that.

Honestly, I hope so.

I was really, REALLY annoyed by the DAI alpha trailer where we were supposed to capture a keep and send out agents, but never got that in the final game.

I don't want to be seeing awesome things and not getting them later. Rather have them take the time.

He apparently doesn't view these things in a traditional browser.  He must've made one for himself or something.  One that allows him to have pre-configured headers.  Apparently, that's a part of his header.

I don't see why this is such a big deal.

Well, if that's what they';re going to do now (and I have no particular problem with it ) then they probably shouldn't have done an announcement trailer a full year before releasing any substantive information

this is right we ll have only few thing before n7 day perhaps on n7 we will have pics or i pray for a trailer but i play bioware game since the beginning of the firm i will say don't hope for too much before e3 when the game will be on lauch mode .

We have to pray for no push back of it but i prefer a better game and wait a little longer .

I really like mass effect 3 only hate the ending but the overall game was great so if they take the core element of the serie and upgrade them we will have a pearl :)

Have faith :)

Where's the line between "interesting gameplay challenge" and "****ing the player over," anyway?

The answer to how difficult things need to be changes depending on the exact objective of a mission, sequence, or encounter. But regardless of that, the objective is never to screw the player over. The goal is always to present a surmountable challenge that makes use of mechanics in the game. It's not hard to make changes to make things unfair, but that's just no fun.

I don't mind a challenge as long as the mechanics and gameplay to get me through it are fun.

The parts of game play that I find most frustrating are the parts where the usual mechanics are ditched for a one-off sequence. The Rannoch Reaper is annoying. Marauder Shields and the 3 Huskateers are so annoying I put the game in casual mode just to avoid most of that crap. And I loathe QTE (well, the interrupt system wasn't bad, but I will not buy Ubisoft games because they are chock full of QTE). I feel if the player has mastered the normal game mechanics, suddenly throwing in a new mechanic for one particular scene is a bad decision.
