His twitter bio still says he's the lead writer, though.

Maybe his non-update of twitter indicates he's temporarily left it to complete some kind of large project?  Anyway, I think this Schlerf-centric speculation could happen elsewhere.

What a great N7 Day! The trailer was the perfect dose of inspirational, nostalgic and a good dose of new content. And a very successful Extra Life charity fundraiser

 

Maybe I missed this in the twitter conversation, but do we have confirmation that Shepard's voiceover in that trailer implies Shepard knew about the ark? Or was it simply marketing that was made for a nostalgic sendoff (which was very appropriate  )

So, what do we have confirmed? What do we have new for ME:A?

 

Perhaps I misled you. When I meant new content, I meant more what we got in general throughout the day, not just the trailer. Lots of concept art got released, and some very beautiful pieces at that.

 

And when I say content, I mean "new stuff for us to think about". I never mentioned anything about "new and confirmed". Content can be ideas or food for thought, stuff to get us thinking. And that's what we got today. A little (or big) suggestion as to the name of the protagonist, a beautiful rendering (and confirmation) of the long theorized ark theory. A nice voice-over by Jennifer Hale that represents a passing of the torch, in a way, from the old guard (Shepard) to the new blood (Ryder).

 

I also really enjoyed the message of the trailer. The mention of NASA and the early space pioneers, going out into the great unknown. For me, it really reinforces an aspect of Mass Effect I feel could be improved upon: actual space exploration. It really helps reinforce the exploration and discovery tone that Bioware is setting for this game, based on all the marketing we've received so far. Yet at the same time, reminding us that they will look back to the past and remember what it was about the original trilogy that we loved. A healthy balance of old tradition and new ideas. I like that, can't wait to see more.

 

Considering we knew we weren't getting anything major for this N7 Day, we actually got a fair amount. More than last year's N7 Day, which had a bunch of concept art. We had an actual trailer and confirmation of an important story detail. I'm not saying we had an info overload with bunch of confirmed content. I'm just saying that we got some solid tidbits that slightly surpassed my expectations as to what we were going to get for N7 Day. That, to me, represents "a good dose of new content", relative to what I was expecting for this event. 

 

Regardless, can't wait for more info soon

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it, but isn't it difficult to drift on sand?

 

Is it just me or is there another opaque image over the main one?  Maybe it's a reflection and the viewer is looking through a window?  It's easiest to see if you look on the left hand side.  At first I thought it was something behind the ship, but now I'm not so sure.

And yeah, I see it to. But I have no idea what it is. Concept images have a tendency to be...rough. Perhaps it is just a texture or something.

I loved the trailer too!

As for your question, there was a somewhat confirmation in a tweet answer that this is only Shepard's goodbye to the fans. So I guess it's pretty safe to say Shepard wouldn't have known about the ark. To me it was simply a nice touch and like you say, nostalgic sendoff to enjoy what's coming up next (new protag and all), but also never to forget what was in the past. I'll put the tweets here again (they are from 2 or 3 pages earlier iirc).
