The trilogy takes place between 2183 and 2186. The earth government doesn't believe Shepard and doesn't prepare for a war. There is no contingency plan and all available resources are allocated to the war effort and the construction of the crucible when the reapers attack earth.

Humanity has only a handful of dreadnoughts in 2186 and not the capabilities to built the ship from the trailer in a few months.

add a couple of years to that, shepard was dead during 2 of them.

Didn't the leak just mention that the transition from space to ground would be seamless, not seemless loading full-stop?

Here's the relevant bit from the leaked marketing survey (bold is mine):

Seamlessly Travel Through the Next Mass Effect Universe:

As you pilot your space ship, Tempest, across the 100s of solar systems that are seamlessly connected in the next Mass Effect, you will encounter new planets filled with valuable resources, intelligent life, conflict, and alien technology that all give you opportunities to increase the power of your character, your ship and your team so that you can build them into a force that perfectly suits your gameplay style. Transitions between activities, like flying your Tempest (space ship) across a solar system to land on a mineral rich planet, then jumping into your Mako (land vehicle) to explore the surface of planet, all happen smoothly without loading screens.

it always bugs me that people see N7 as a Shepard ONLY thing. its not! its an organization that means so much more, yes i will always think of shepard but dont disregard any protag and call him/her a shepard 2.0, its disrespectful in my opinion, shepard is- to date the most famous n7 soldier but he/she isnt the 1st one to land such position! i think its unfair to judge a protag we know nothing about let alone that we can shape and make our own.. :/ maybe its just me, but it always bother me when people push that idea around. N7 is more than just shepard.

It annoys me that Mass Effect itself means only Shepard to some people.

Why would have anyone asked the upcoming game's composer this early? It is left a mystery for good reason.

That's one transition of many. So, focusing on one does not negate the others.

Right, but that's the only experience we've had with N7.  That is the only definition we've had of N7.  Be it Paragon, Renegade, or any of of its components...   Those moral components will always help us shape our own individual aspects of what N7 is for us.

I mean, hell, I would LOVE to be proven wrong.  But until that time it's going to remain as it is.  A crackpot theory.  No better, no worse than the IT.

Hm.. And here I thought, that by this date in the game's development cycle, research would be over and the game design finalized.

Unless "reasearch" means:

1. how to use the keyboard and multi-button mouse properly.

2. let the player name the save files.

3. how to reuse the CC face on a 2nd playthrough.

4. how to create proper hair

... you get my drift...

May or may not remember this right, since I haven't played Mass Effect in a while, but didn't the character creator come with a code generator for the specific face you made?

Like this: http://old.masseffect2faces.com/

You just have to paste the code into the text box when you are creating your character in the CC and you should get the same face.

The only thing that worries me about the new characters is the standard to which they will be compared. If, for example, we get a Turian squadmate, this Turian will undoubtedly be compared to Garrus, a character who was fleshed across 3 games and tons of DLC. We will only have the Turian squadmate for one game (most likely). And unless MEA has the content of the whole Mass Effect trilogy, our new characters probably won't have the same amount of characterization as the characters in the ME trilogy did.

I personally know Bioware can pull it off (they always have, in my view). I'm just trying to brace myself for the inevitable "Wrex/Garrus/Liara was a million times better than our new Krogan/Asari/Turian squadmate. What happened Bioware?" comments that might flood the forums.

This is very true for example look how much Grunt gets compared to Wrex and that's just from 2 games.

Damn shame no Krogan squad mates in 3 if there were he or she be compared. If this survey is true the new Krogan squad mate will deal with the same issue.

Has Bioware already announced that ME:A is going to be a standalone game? If so, it would be pretty sad indeed since I was hoping for another trilogy as well.

No, they have not said anything about whether this game will be standalone, part of a duology, part of a trilogy, or part of a saga.

The same worry crossed my mind too. I mean I didn't like Vega much but I never thought to compare him to the "other human male" Kaidan   I hope we do get another turian, I'm crossing my fingers for a barefaced as*hole myself.

You raise a valid concern, but considering how attached to Varric, Merril and Avaline I became in DA2 I think BW can do a perfectly fine job with these new characters. OTOH, I never did feel the same level of attachment to Varric or Leliana in DAI because the Inquisitor just didn't have the history with these characters like Shepard does with team mates like Tali or Garrus in ME3, a history that stretches over three games.

I'm all in for another trilogy (heck, it can even be more). I like going back to my old buddies!

I always found it weird being the inquisitor talking to Varric. As if i did not know of our pass of jesters.

I forgot that reasearch could also mean how to get inspiration from your competitor.
