Got the first batch of banter files from my writer this morning, so I'll be spending part of the day working on banter implementation #space
Which basically means I'll be playing the mission, place banter triggers, see how it fits, move triggers around, until it paces well. #space
And then eventually sit through it with my writer, see if we need to lengthen or shorten banter in spots, until we're happy. #space

Spoiler alert, we're never going to be happy with it, so we keep tweaking it until they take it away from us. #space
Is this the part in the process where I start killing my writer's wordbabies? Maybe it is. Maybe it is. #space
Even this first banter file for the first little bit of this mission is full of stuff. It'll be interesting trying to fit all of it. #space

@Jos or anyone that knows:
Techie question. "During banter file testing, does the trigger execute a banter-text-to-speech program?".
Curious
Edit: BTW, Jos, I like your "developer diary" tweets... much appreciated

Good choice.
Oblivion wasn't the greatest Sci Fi film, but it did have a good soundtrack. Some of the tracks also sound like they could be from a Mass Effect game.

Listening to Epica would be my first choice.

I find the band Jakob from New Zealand to be really awe inspiring with regards to space and exploration.
From their latest release.
Anyway, re: banter.. I always always ALWAYS hate it when banter either cuts off important dialogue, or dialogue cuts off banter. So hopefully, the banter has enough spacetime to execute and complete before any other dialogue or cutscene, or anything, can interrupt it.

Me too. We try to account for it with logic failsafes but sometimes that just doesn't work. Part of pacing and spacing the banter is trying to anticipate the potential overlap problems.

On occasion I glance over to my neighbors @ccorfe & @BioMasika and I see them looking at cool space stuff, and then realize that's our game.

I encountered those same silent moments in DA:I too so I'm assuming the banters are voice overs?

I still have some trouble getting banters to appear in Inquisition, but compared to when the game launched last year banters are showing up more and more for me. I do hope they appear more often in Andromeda though, and that there aren't any glitches or bugs with them.

Lots of people see my username and read it as ma-see-Kah
Buy for the record I read it as Ma-Sih-Kuh (I hope that translates correctly). Kind of like a drunk cowboy saying massacre.

Vanguard was the worst in ME3 for missing dialogue since you could charge right past a dialogue prompt point.

I seem to recall that in one of the interviews BioFan did with some of the devs who worked on Descent, the DA:I DLC, a dev (level designer I think it was) said that while working on levels and testing, the characters were "saying" dialogue fed through text-to-speech before proper voice acting was done and put it. So maybe it is the same process? Or at least similar?
Still, I am not 100% positive this is indeed what is happening with ME:A as well. And this is a genuinely interesting question. Does anybody know?

There's an alpha? ![]()
They never even mentioned being in pre-alpha (though I think we all assumed that's where it was at least)

There will be someone who's gonna break it. And we'll likely laugh. But in general, I think it will work as intended for most of us.
