Jos recently commented that the structures were there. But its not ready for public consumption, I took that to mean the following:

If it were a jigsaw puzzle you'd know what the picture looks like and what pieces to lay out where and when you are intending to do that. As far as having a complete picture you can admire and feel a sense of achievement over though I don't think its close.

A year is a long time lets hope its not delayed. That being said I hope they do delay it if they need to, mass effect cannot be DAI which felt just completed enough to get a pass.

Yah, but this is also a shooter.   I think this will work more in favor of BioWare releasing next year (heh, 2016 is what I mean) then the year after, or 2017.

Nothing big but:

http://blog.bioware....s/?sf43468822=1

Happy New Year from All of Us!

The new year is a time for new beginnings, fresh starts, and rejuvenated spirits. It’s also a time for reflection.

As we look back on 2015, we want to thank you for being part of an incredible year. We saw the story and characters of Dragon Age: Inquisition mature and evolve, and travelled to undiscovered areas of Thedas in Jaws of Hakkon, The Descent, and Trespasser. An epilogue is something we’ve never done before at BioWare, and we were happy to share the closing chapter of Inquisition with you.

We were ecstatic to finally be able to give you a taste of what’s to come in Mass Effect: Andromeda at E3, and we got a real kick out of seeing how you reacted. Then on N7 Day we said goodbye to Commander Shepard and got ready for the road to Andromeda. This is our fourth year celebrating with Mass Effect fans, and each time we’ve been blown away by the love and support we receive from the community.

And whether we were out in the street or on the Web, we had a fantastic time talking with fans this past year. At conventions from coast to coast, we met countless people who told us stories that made us laugh, cry, and remember why we make games. We saw fantastic cosplay and even put on a fashion show full of brand-new items that we developed based on feedback from all of you. And every Friday morning, we sat down with you to play the latest Dragon Age multiplayer weekend challenge so you could carry us through it.

It’s been a fantastic year, and we look forward to what the new one will bring. We hope you’ll join us on our journey to Andromeda. From all of us at BioWare: thank you!

Hmm... not quite a year, that is.  I'd say 8-9 months left for game development

For example:

Jan-Sep

Full development mode =  9 months

Oct

Development is frozen and full debug mode is on = 1 month

Nov

Gold Master is created. The Multi-Media company is given the go-ahead to mass produce the dvd(s), insert the cover art and DVDs into the final packaging material. It is then sent to a warehouse for world-wide distribution. About 4-5 weeks for the game to arrive at the brick and mortar stores  EA wants the stores to have the media before the launch date.... probably why EU launch dates are later than North America due to longer arrival times to the stores.

Distribution time may be later than planned, if Bio makes the right decision to produce a few dvds for last minute QC before giving the MM company the green light or dev time is frozen earlier to allow for QCing the pressed disks before mass production (personally I do the latter... been there done that ie: sometimes a mistake is made producing the Gold Master because the wrong "production version" was used).

Dec

This is the desired launch window.

In the meantime, after the Gold Master is created, debugging and possibly game tweaking still goes on for the digital distribution market. Meaning that when you install the game from physical media, expect a 0-day patch available for you. The studio may distribute the Gold Master version for the digital markets as well and then have everyone install the 0-day patch.... a much easier approach for version control.

So, not quite a year to develp the game.

You know, this really reinforces my idea (or wishful thinking) that the N7 video had absolutely nothing to do with Andromeda. That is, that Shepard's speech was created for the video alone, in no way it connects with the plot of the next Mass Effect game. The ark is probably legit though, as I find it hard Bioware would design that ship just to symbolize moving from the Milk Way to Andromeda.

But I'm still hoping, although not with very much confidence, that the ark will have nothing to do with the major organizations of the galaxy and some luckly found tech.

They likely had JHale record the lines when she came in to do her last Krem lines for the Trespasser DLC.

Well, not to be a stickler, but who has physical media anymore?  I haven't gone into a store and bought a game for like years.

I always buy physical media.

Mainly for backup AND the fact that I have a serious monthly GB cap. Downloading a 40GB game is NOT in my cards, that's for sure. Plus I have other games as well.... I try to keep DL at minimum.

I think most still do. Physical is even more convenient now than before. Games no longer weight 2 or 3GB, they weight more than 30 or 40 GBs, plus all the patches. "Hmm, I feel like playing X game. Lemme just download these 36.2 GBs of data!"

Physical almost always is better for me than digital. I usually only get digital if it's a digital only game or there's a really good sale on a game that I've wanted to play and it's cheaper to download it than buy it physically. Games are huge nowadays (30+ GB) and it can be difficult to have all of those games at once considering the space they take up. Also, I like having the game cases because it's kind of a collection for me.

the patches arent necessarily a valid point. recall that patches are applied after the official release. meaning you'd have to update your game at some point even if you bought it physically. DA:I is the best example of this.

i believe a significant portion of the general gaming population has become acquainted with digital releases and dloads. i wouldnt say they ONLY buy digital releases, but i'm sure they partake of digital downloads as well as some physical media. like goishen, last physical game disk i bought was ME 3.

I do. Maybe I just feel old-fashioned at 30, but I prefer having a physical copy of the game. Save disc space for something else.

Then again, I'm also an old soul who still buys actual books made from dead trees rather than adopt a digital format.

Lets hope that BW/EA won't start selling boxes that has a download-code instead of a disc in them like some publishers has done <_<

Battlefront had boxes with download codes.  The last Sims expansion only had a download code, so it's not looking good.  I am hopeful that it comes with an actual data disc as there are still places that have slow Internet speeds and downloading such a large program would be a nightmare.

It will come in a disc format. No big publisher of console games has signaled that they're going to abandon physical media, even if they keep talking about it as an inevitability in the future.

I expect EA to push their Access program on Xbone by giving people 7 days early access to MEA if they download it from Xbox Live, but that's fair enough when the profit margin on digital downloads is apparently so much higher compared to physical copies sold in stories.

They haven't done that yet. Only Konami (MGSV) and Bethesda (F4) are doing that currently. Retail will die on PC first, since the DD share there is already over 50%. It's much lower on consoles. Recent AAA-games had a retail share of 80-85%.

Actually, I have bought a physical copy of game in years.  ME3.  I just looked about my computer room and found an old boxed up copy of ME3.  Now, I seem to remember why I ditched the medium in the first place.  It took me about half an hour to download and about an hour to install from disk.  I have installed it twice, and I can't remember why.  I think because I upgraded my OS from WinXP to Win7 or something.

Much much simpler to download than to install from disk.  But I do understand it, I'm of that generation (I'm 42) of where the manuals actually matter.  The actual feeling of holding something in your hands actually mattered.  But with Steam & Origin's policies about protecting your p/w and every time you try and access Steam from a computer that isn't your own it'll send you a text and all that jazz.  I'm not too worried about it.

Beside this, drives are extremely cheap nowadays.  Even SSD's.  I don't even have an optical drive in this computer.  Why in this digital arena do I even need one?

It took me 18hrs to DL the EC here in Aus, net speeds haven't improved much either since then. I think Kazakhstan (Borat) overtook us for speeds over that period. Not that there's anything wrong with them, entirely our fault.

But that's why I buy physical, coz Borat.

Didn't quite mean that the way you took it. I am currently medicated due to illness too so there's a chance I may have misread your post rather than you, mine.

Just saying that with a year out till "Holidays 2016" there's a is a lot of time left to get stuff done and if they need to break till Jan over Xmas so be it.

Its preferable to the gradual deterioration we saw after the Rannoch Arc in ME3 which left us with a half finished beam run and the digital equivalent of an interpretive dance to rhythm of life.

I prefer physical copies. DA:I installed in about 30mins using discs. For comparison, I was gifted a physical copy Fallout 4 but since the majority of it was a download it took 4 hours to install. Add on to the fact that some ISP's cap bandwith use and downloading becomes an enormous pain.

I far prefer DD to physical copies and I'm an old person (42).  I probably wouldn't have even started playing DA if it weren't for the fact it was offered as a free DD from origin, and that led me to ME.  I tend to look through Origin and Steam every so often and go "that game looks/sounds interesting, I think I'll get it" quite often. The last game I physically bought for my PC was SIMS 3, however my kids have a WiiU so I still buy physical games for that.
