Yeah. It's a reality of the industry that the gaming press would have nothing to report on if publishers didn't drip-feed them information about upcoming releases or bring them on a tour of the studio to show off a game in development - and publishers need (to a greater or lesser extent) those outlets to report on their games so people will buy them.

Like you say, if the big Game Informer cover articles read like paid advertising, it's because they are. Everything the journalist sees is controlled by the publisher, every answer goes through the publisher's PR team, and the publisher probably pays large amounts of money to secure a spot on the cover. This is the same as practically every kind of consumer journalism (cars, travel, tech).

But how else would we get information? EA releasing news about MEA online is fine, but you'd still have people complaining that it doesn't accurately represent the game or is biased (duh, they're selling you a product), and going through major media outlets is obviously a sensible marketing move if they're still doing it. They wouldn't spend the money giving exclusive previews to gaming media if they didn't think it was worth it for the audience and attention.

I think that we got more than enough info on the game a few months back, with the leak.  It's just that we just want more.   And we got info on the game that BioWare wasn't ready to release to us, hence the bad part of a leak.

I say that this game is gonna feel much more like DA:I than it will a traditional ME game.  But I'm just wondering, is that a bad thing?  My answer, for at least right now, is no.  The problem wasn't that a FPS felt too much like DA:I, it was that DA:I felt too much like a shooter.  Well, in this case...   You'd have a third person shooter behaving like a shooter.  I'm just afraid that when it comes out, everybody gonna hate it because it has too many elements from DA:I in it.  And that's not really fair.

EDIT :  You might ask yourselves why would it be similar?  Because of the engine.  The engine is where everything gets created.

I certainly hope you're right, but the war table is a big big part of that for me.  You saw it begin in ME3, evolve in DA:I, and I think we're gonna see it evolve once again in ME:A with such things as strike teams and being able to equip and level up your squads.

I can see their using it, though.  It's a stop gap measure that is fun.  I just think that they do need to tweak the amount of missions before they become repeatable (and the game let's them know that they're repeating missions) and the entry interface to it.  Because with DA:I I just felt like (on my first playthrough) we were just introduced, and then a high learning curve was tossed at us knowing which missions to accept.  Then, on my 150+ hour playthrough, I still had missions being tossed my direction.

I didn't know which (long term) missions I had completed and which I hadn't.  Example :  Varric's book.

I've been off work for three weeks and in that time I've forgotten how to design Mass Effect: Andromeda. Guess I gotta delete and start over

AfterLife ftw. Much better atmosphere than Purgatory.

Eh, the only EA games I own are BW games.

Like digital download, but don't trust it. Physical copies are still my favorite, for now.

Strongly disliked the DAI War Table. Also do not like the idea of Strike Teams and fiddling around with all that. Would prefer only fiddling with my team, not extra strike teams. For MP? Sure. For SP? Not interested. If there's a vault that needs to be raided, then let's go raid it. I don't want to read about it later, I want to do it.

war table

I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that though. The leak talked about it, and it does match the exploration/colonization feel Andromeda has going for it. I wonder if there is a game that nailed this kind of behind the scene missions. In the games I can think of they tend to feel shallow.

It almost reminds me of garrison missions in WoW..and anyone who has played it knows what I'm talking about. Not that it's a bad thing, but nobody really wants to sort through menus for outcomes that don't feel rewarding. It's a very shallow way to add content to the game.

Let the conspiracy theories about "It's a cover up! ME:A is lost! They don't know what to do with their game! game will suck!" begin!

i actually agree that ME:A will borrow alot from DA:I since its been said many times that the new mass effect will be focused around exploring. i've done a hell of a lot of exploring in DA:I so far. so i imagine this is where the mako comes into play in ME:A. there'll be vast planetside landscapes for us to maneuver about and explore with many quests to attend to. and i suppose something resembling the war room will be present. and since the ship will be much bigger, one can imagine it will take the place of skyhold with your companions scattered all over in various decks/levels etc.

DA:I could in fact have been a sort of model that bioware created and tested in order to check its feasibility and the reaction from fans afterwhich ME:A will be made based on the successes and failures of DA:I.

@Cameron__Lee Was that about the length of the prologue? Or are things still deep in development it'd be hard to say?

@BioFanOfficial I'm not familiar enough with the dev work to say, plus I was kind of distracted with our New IP work going on around me :)

I might be talking completely out of my ass here, I have no idea.  But one can only add so many twos and come up with a roundabout four.

One big one was the leak.  Another was the fact that this game is based on exploration.  Another is the FB3 engine.  Another is the fact that any game company that has put out more than say three titles in the past will "continue their work" in the next game.  We can see this obviously with ME, then with DA:O, continued on into ME2, etc.  Until we get to this point where what we have is this big war table thing sitting there.   Plus being able to go on strike team missions with your strike teams.  Time playing that means time away from the game.

And that's another reason why I say it's going to like DA:I.   People expecting to play 10-20 hours?    Nay nay fluffy.  Bump that sucker up another decimal.
