Power is influence, whether it be intelligence, military might, and/or political and economic connections.

Um...the United States won almost every if not every battle of the Vietnam War.

                                                                                       <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

America lacked the political will to allow the military to do its job. Politicians interfered with tactical decisions.

Technically, I suppose America did not lose the Vietnam War, because:

1. The US withdrew from the conflict

2. The US was never at war with Vietnam but were in there "as advisors".

However, technicalities while true, do not mitigate the world's view that the US lost the war no matter how you slice it.

Right, and this might be a little abstract to you, but what is power?  Is power the ability to sleep with anyone?  No, that comes with practice.  Is power the ability to influence nations?  No, the ability to tell the truth will matter more.  So, what is power?  The same goes with war assets.  America, the mightiest nation, got its ass handed to us by a bunch of rice farmers in southeast Asia.  Same war.  Different kind.

EDIT :  Damn, XCom 2 really has me thinking about guerrilla warfare.  If you haven't been chased down by an alien spaceship, I wouldn't recommend it.  I took out like 44/50 with 4 wounded, 4 killed, about 100 playthroughs of the same battle just to save one person who finally had achieved a nickname.  It was brutal.

                                                                                      <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

While I wait for ME:A news, XCom2 will be in my hands in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to the game's squad tactics and strategic decisions.

Oh, I agree that the United States lost the Vietnam War. I was just disagreeing with the line about "America, the mightiest nation, got its ass handed to us by a bunch of rice farmers in southeast Asia". But goishen wants to drop the discussion, and I agree with them.

Well, let me let you in on a couple'a secrets that frustrated the dogpiss outta me, when I first started it up.  Always, on a timed mission (which is about three quarters of them) move your first soldier the farthest he can go.  If he doesn't see anything, then none of the other soldiers will either.  Reason :  Timer will run out quicker than you think and you don't have time to hang out doing overwatch.  Differing mission types.  Sometimes you've got to go in and protect a tower.  Sometimes you've got to go in and destroy a tower.  Sometimes you've got endless enemies dropping in from the sky.  Sometimes, like I said before (in the aliens just shot down my ship) it's both.

The emphasis of this game is really on guerrilla warfare, believe it or not.  Sometimes you're moving up and then attacking, sometimes you're moving all of your troops up and then with the last one attacking.  It's not like the old game where you've got X, Y, and Z coordinates and an endless supply of time.  It's not where you've got to go in and wipe them all out.  It's frustrating, but I love it.  It's so much more like the original XCom than the previous version.  It is really a game that makes you think.

The objective was to keep the south in govt through military force.

Mission failed.

Thank for the tips. I hate timed missions.... guess some thinking adjustments is necessary.

I'm going to copy and paste your post to a desktop text file. These tips will definitely help.

Oh yah, and get recruits as many times as it will allow.  Up to about 15 or 20.  You wanna keep it right in that range.  You will be honestly surprised at how many get injured and are then out for the month.  Also, and I just figured this out...   You don't receive money anymore.  It's a resource called supplies and they work in the same way as money.  Also, they're not delivered.  It shows where they are dropped off for you to go and pick up if you can spare about 3-5 days.  But they're not delivered.

WTG me.  Finally figuring out a game that I've been playing for what?  4 days?

*snip*

Am I the only one who preferred the Alliance's SR2 over Cerberus'? I liked the Dark/blue/orange theme and the ship felt military but comfortable at the same time. Cerberus' SR2 felt more like a house or cruise ship.
