If we leave during any point or after the Shepard Trilogy, then it is a continuation of the series. It takes place in a different galaxy, but the events that shaped our cycle before they left would still shape them. Like for example since we know there will be krogan in Andromeda whether they were cured before we leave or not would shape them and the other species. The only way it would be a full clean break would be if they left before Mass Effect 1, since then the only thing that would effect them is the established canon.

 

There's also the possibility that we left before or during the reaper invasion, and it took several generations to reach Andromeda. So then it'd technically be "the future" compared to the trilogy. Idk, I just really need to know more about the story haha!

I still think it is most practical to have it set during the 2 yrs Shepard was "dead" between ME1 and ME2 (and by set I mean the mission starts- everyone is put into stasis pods (or what have you) and they set off for Andromeda). That avoids Bio having to deal with most major plotlines.

A Bio studio manager tried to explain with an analogy. The trilogy is about a set of characters in WW1 and Andromeda is about a new set of characters in WW2.

 

If you believe its a continuation,that's your prerogative.  However, to me it clear.... Andromeda is a new story with no ties to WW1.

I know. I said that by saying 'during any point or after the Shepard Trilogy'. Say for example we leave after the fall of Thessia since that seems to be a popular starting point. Even without the endings effecting them, there were many things that happened in a number of ways that would effect the people on our ship, and even who would be on our ship. Nothing drastic, but enough that the dialogue would be different.

Not a great analogy, since WW2 is a direct continuation of WW1.

"direct continuation" is debatable, but the circumstances that led to it are certainly found in world war one (Or more specifically, the treatment of the Germans after WW1)

 

If the Ark is indeed an escape vessel launching as a result of the Reapers before or during ME3, then the analogy isn't that bad.

I'm now thinking closed ship games - a long long time in space to get to Andromeda - people living within their family and social units. Generation after generation. Stir crazy should set in about. . . ?

Nice hearing it but they didn't come up with anything this interesting. I was hoping some news about andromeda or at least some kind of information about its development which could actually give us some hype but instead its all about other things
