Well, we don't know much about the PC to begin with, other then he's a soldier of some kind. I think we need more info to draw a comparison to Shep and see how different or similar the new PC to the Commander.

Well, human, militar background, at the head of a group of people. For now not much to differentiate the new protagonist with Shepard.

Well, two out of three were things that were really likely to happen regardless if the pc is similar or not to Shepard (militar background and head of the group). And they can be done in a different way then they did for Shepard.

As for humans, we'll be focused on the human part of the colonization of Andromeda. It makes sense the PC is human. Being an alien would've required a different plot (it's practically impossible for the MW species to launch an united colonization operation, since I doubt at least one between Turians and Quarians aren't in, not to mention species like Hanar or Drells).

I don't think those things make a PC similar to Shep. An alien PC coul've been built to be similar to Shepard.

Unless people are actively trying to look for comparisons

From Bio's quotes, I think our dear PC is different.

“combat trained but untested explorer”

Our PC starts out as a grunt?

You will play a human, male or female..."

Confirms in stone the PC is human

Also, We might be sitting in the Mako quite a bit. From Flynn - referring to Need for Speed demo:

"they’ve done fantastic, amazing driving mechanics, and that’s fun to play. As much as we can, we will work with those guys, we will learn from them to get those kinds of mechanics and that kind of polish into the game."

On combat, Flynn may be referring to Jump Jets:

"is that I really like where the combat is going when I play it and that it’s an absolute focus… I think it would be fair to say that Mass Effect 3 represents a starting point from where we want to go with this combat experience."

"I think we’ve learned a few lessons around ensuring that combat experience has really nice role-playing elements to it, things you can do that offer progression and offer choice in how you play the experience."

From Walters:

"With Andromeda, our goal is to start that at a much smaller scale—though the scales are still massive—and give you a sense that there is much more to explore, rather than saying ‘here’s the whole galaxy.’"

Shep, if you remember, started out as a hard boiled vet. Here, the reins are handed to a green horn.  Also, take what they say with several grains of salt... if I go by DA:I hype.  I'm referring to ME3 combat as a starting point experience.

At Comic-Con 2014 they showed an image of the protagonist and they had a N7 insignia on their upper right arm. Mike Gamble also said they would "have something to do with N7". There is no way we're going to be a grunt if this is the case, since only the best of the best can become a N1 let alone a N7.

I don't understand the pic. I know you wanted a multiple species option for the PC, but if they'd have done so they wouldn't have done this plot. If the every specie has their own colonization project, why would the one leading the human one should be something else then a human?

Being an N7 doesn't mean you're a veteran, though it's true you're not a simple grunt. It depends on when you enlist for the N7 program. Vega for example would've had already some experience. But I think Shepard started his military career after grauduating at N7. So a N7 graduate can be still a newbie or someone without the same experience Shepard did.

Also, having something to do with N7 doesn't mean the PC will be a N7.

I hate the supposed plot. We are four games into the franchise, and yet we are still being human-centric and focusing on humans. We are part of a galactic community, intergalactic now actually, so I would like to see said community. So far the only time we ever do it's for humanity's interests, like gathering everyone to take Earth back because Earth is the most important planet in the galaxy apparently because humanity.

Yes it does. You have to have shown a lot of prowess to even get offered a chance to go to the school. Shepard got invited after the military event in their background on Elysium, Akuze, or Torfan.

What else can it mean?

That's a different matter. I'm not saying people should like the plot. I'm saying that based on the plot they written it makes sense the PC was human.

I was certainly not expecting something different though. Bioware likes the human-centric part on ME. I'll always be pessimistic in this regard.

If that's true, then yes, the new PC should have a bit of experience. Though I don't recall they ever statet that Shep enlisted for the program after the events on Azuke, Torfan and Elysium. Do you recall where it was stated?

I'm not sure. He can be a N7 trainee, without having yet graduating. Or our PC could have a relation with a N7, like the one in the trailer.

Maybe the PC is a sibling or bystander who for some reason steals the N7's identity?

Long shot guess, but, it's fun to speculate.

Indeed. I just think that if the PC is just an N7, they'd have simply stated that and not that he has something to do with N7.
