Tell Liara to go find out where your fish went, and go rescue the primarch so the two of you can do some serious model ship-finding.

I'd love to see some daft shenanigans on Menae.
Then continue the daft actions on Eden Prime.
Go to Tuchanka to cure the Genophage, drunken Shepard style.

Then skip some of the boring moments of the story, and have some awkward interactions with Javik.
Javik unimpressed with your leadership, tries to throw you out an airlock.Posted Image

You are enforcing some things, like your dislike for Liara, when you picked the line about swag points and a girl and Liara is definitely a girl. And you also trying to go along the plot too much.

Nobody complained when I spent two months making fun of Vega's considerable person, but call the love interest incompetent and now the gloves are OFF.

I'm going to be making fun of every single character in the game. It is going to seem as though I dislike them, when the reality is that I'm not making any jokes about the things I (or you guys as the audience) disliked about the game. This is all good-natured riffing, and at no point am I ever going to facilitate anything legitimately spiteful (particularly anything toward real individuals, as a number of suggestions had disappointingly brought up.) There are a number of things you may notice I haven't done specifically because I want neither myself nor anyone else in the thread to be lowered to that kind thing.

Update tonight-ish, but I wanted to take a moment to draw a distinction between riffing on stuff (which is what I am doing) and spite (which is something I have been very carefully avoiding for the duration of this thread.)

I like James Vega and I like Liara.
Doesn't stop me from enjoying Lankist's Comic.Posted Image

Though I can't help but feel that the reason that people made a big deal about Liara being riffed upon, was because of the fact she is generally loved by gamers. Whereas James doesn't have that kind of backing. He has only been in one game, so he hasn't grown on gamers like Liara did.

The problem isn't that you make fun of characters. The problem is you gave this as an rpg-comic idea, where players can do whatever they won't, and yet you force them to do things, or don't act like you were asked to even when you picked it.

It would be diffrent if you just said, it is your comic from beginning, but i was given an expression we can make this comic with you. Until now.

Besides, it's not the first time. Many people were asking you to change Kaidan into Ashley, yet you did nothign. Now this with Liara, it is really obvious where your loyalties and interests lies, and that you won't give them up no matter what. It's a shame, because it was really good for a long time and had a lot of potential.

I disagree a little. Perhaps, the thing that gave the impression Lankist disliked Liara were all the comics he posted a bit earlier detailing Shadowbroker incompetence-related jokes. Admittedly, it is a legitimate plot hole there that she has the most extensive information network in the galaxy and yet, can't find Cerberus, which is found by your classy comm specialist instead. Anyways, for me, that's what gave me the impression that Lankist didn't like her.

On one level, I know from experience that I should just be ignoring this whole thing. But on a more intellectual level, am I the only one who sees the weird meta-commentary going on right now?

I dunno'. Maybe it's just me. But Meleander, you might be a genius.

Check your email. There will be a message about a "pet Prothean" or something. Whatever it is, it'll make a good repalcement for your pet fish. Go to Eden Prime and recruit adopt it.

It's funny because Ragging on Liara wouldn't seem so harsh if it wasn't for the fact that Liara really doesn't seem to be very good at being an information broker.

Really, the only piece of information that she actually has to offer us in the entire game is that the Protheans had a "super weapon" meant to kill the Reapers. Now, as she is hot for Protheans, the thought that she stumbled onto the knowledge that there were plans for a Reaper killing device in the Prothean archives over the thought that she wanted there to be a Prothean "super weapon" in the archives so she looked until she found one is one of those balances that is difficult to figure. Still, she doesn't know that the device is in fact, not Prothean, she doesn't know that the device isn't a weapon per se, the fact that she doesn't know exactly what it does, the fact that she doesn't have any information to blackmail the council, the fact that she doesn't know that Udina is a Cerberus spy, the fact that no one, inculding the shadow broker, seems to know what the Quarians are up to for most of the game, the fact that information about the trip to Thessia to get the Prothean VI gets leaked to Cerberus...

I mean, in the end, Liara is supposed to be one of these figures who knows everything as it happens, and instead, the very fact that she is the Shadow Broker is pretty much played down and only brought up almost as a joke like "What? I would have thought that the Shadow Broker knew that the bird is the word."

A little railroading can't hurt, especially considering it's been 3 months and we haven't even taken control of the Normandy yet. I'm interested to see how Lankist does Rannoch or other missions, but the more time we spend on the Citadel building pizza forts the later we'll get there. Too much freedom is not always a good thing, and you must admit we've had our silly times here. But I think getting a move on isn't a bad idea.

Also, how would you honestly expect for Kaidan to become Ashley short of a dimensional rift or something? There are fun silly ideas and there are ideas that don't make any sense. I don't think a "Loyalty" to logic is a bad thing, certianly not in a series where almost everything is a mass effect field.

That's just my opinion though.

I'm not entirely sure why Shepard's gender matters. I mean, switching genders could allow for some funny jokes like Shepard crashes the shuttle because of the legend that girls aren't as good at driving as guys, or every time she has to go out anywhere she takes an extra update cycle so she can decide which pair of shoes she wants to wear or something. The problem with these jokes is that they are only really funny once, and as funny as they might be, they are bound to offend someone, even if it is someone who is offended because they think someone else would likely be offended. Making fun of dumb guy Shepard is just as easy, but more importantly, it is safe, because even guys recognize that guys tend to do stupid things for stupid reasons.

Lankist, you keep on doing what you are doing. You are making a fun parody here, and parody stops being funny when you pointedly select pieces to avoid making fun of.

In the meantime, order LIARA to devote a significant portion of her SHADOW BROKER NETWORK towards locating DAVIS THE SPACE HAMSTER. His location is crucial to the WAR EFFORT! For MORALE or something. Our troops need a HERO, damnit!

Besides, its not like the SHADOW BROKER NETWORK has anything else to do, like finding a SECRET CERBERUS INDOCTRINATION CAMP, or convincing EVERY SPECIES AVAILABLE to help you.

As you'd expect in a forum, not everybody has the same opinion. While I like Liara, I have no problem with the comment in the latest "episode".
While Lankist gave us the chance to point a direction for the story every time, the way it was worked out came from him. And he always gave things his own spin.
He made fun of a lot of things. He's made Shepard a bumbling idiot and given Vega a lot of nicknames mocking his steroidtastical physique, and nobody complained about that. So why should other characters be untouchable?
Many people have criticized Liara as a writers' pet. Liking her doesn't seem to work for everybody. In a way, he's echoing forum criticism, just like he did with the Vega riffing.

And even if you dislike him treating Liara like that because she means a lot to you, isn't it a bit early to say the thread's potential is now gone? Because of that one thing?

Does everyone has problems with reading or i with writing?

My arguments is, he is spinning this too much his way, when when it started it was all a comic where he was a dungeon master and we were rpg players. By not bragging with swag points to Liara, who is a girl he broke the one and most important rule of being dungeon master.
Dungeon master never, ever change behavior like that. No one asked him "if this is Liara, don't brag off". The line he picked was specific (and he picked it not being forced, he could just not picked it, and it would be fine by me), and he picked it himself. The line was to brag about his swag points to any girl who comes in. But he didn't.
So in the end he broke the very first idea, he created. The idea that he will choose from our posts main hero actions.

However it's not the first time, so i suspect it was to be foreseen.

Well, then, i will unsuscribe and won't bugger you anymore. I hope you will have a lot of fun anyway, reading Lankins comic. So, have fun, and good luck on Operation Patriot (i suppose we all will see a lot of Liaras out there).
