Other class have warriors have swords and shield and rogues dual weapons and a bow, mages should also get a magical whip that when far from opponent extends its reach to hit them.

^staves

Much like rooves.

Staves are good though, I think they should let warriors be able to use them though :). I'd like to be a sort of a monk character :D.

I'm not bothered by the staff limitation. I can't think of any weapon that would really be a worthwhile alternate (or that wouldn't just be a different weapon solely for the sake of being different).

I just pray for more armor options that aren't robes. No more robes!

Daggers for mages? The blood mages seem to get enough of them from thin air in cutscenes :P.

Also swords for mages would be good :).

Maybe summoned weapons like they had in TES Oblivion. (Don't know if they were in Skyrim. Dont care, really) That was always a fun time.

But within the limitations that they've chosen (differentiation of the classes).

I didn't mind having every weapon be available to every class (and restricted by attribute requirements), but I don't think they've said they're going back to that.

And I can't think of a melee weapon that would mean anything to a mage (who already has a melee staff attack that auto-triggers) who can't also wield an offhand item or any ranged weapon that would be any different than a staff.

It would be a different weapon to just look different. Which isn't a bad thing, but I don't think it's solving any problem. Do you just want weapons that appear different (even though they behave exactly the same) for aesthetics, or is there some technical reason that would benefit the class?

Um...what about for character creation? For um...role play? Or don't you role play in a role playing game?

I'm pretty sure that all characters are innately born with some sort of knife that can only be used to induce blood magic effects or murder other people.

I agree that there ought to be other weapons, like concealable wands/"mage daggers," or just a "focus charm" of some sort that the mage carries around in their pocket to cast magic without a weapon (though the charm would occupy the weapon slot). A more believable portrayal of apostates is sorely needed.

I think made being able to wield weapons would be nice, but that staves would have such a bonus to magic, spell strength, mana amount or mana regeneration that unless you were playing a specific build, it would behoove a mage to use a staff. Unlike Skyrim, where anyone can use any weapon and also cast spells... and you're pretty silly if you don't.

Then again, magic in combat is not a strong point for Skyrim.

Born with a silver knife in their mouth, which is probably what leads them to have a rapier wit and a silver tongue.

*Yes, I enjoyed making that extremely lame pun*

Clearly they are housed in the same strange alternate dimension that typically houses Highlander swords and Buffy's cellphone.

How about something like a polearm (halberds, glaives, partisans)?

Mages would lose their basic ranged attack in exchange for more melee killing power, but still keep them just out of the enemy's reach.

I always wanted to play as a mage that used a bow and arrow. The bow can even be made out of the wood used for staves, and then enchanted for its additional stats and magical effect (fire/lightning/ice/etc) . That would make the arrows into elemental/spiritual damage.

I know it would suit a Dalish Keeper, but the mage would have to lose the robes. That would just look silly otherwise.

Yes I wanted to create a arcane archer who casts his spells from his bow.

I'd like to see mages have the option to forgo weapons entirely and cast all their magic straight from their hands without taking some sort of stat loss. Maybe they could add a new fist weapon type that has stats on it but when you equip it on your character it just appears as if your character in unarmed. Unarmed melee combat could also become viable that way.

Also, spell daggers that have special animations for blood magic. Your character slitting their wrists when using blood magic for example.

Please, no more artificial limitations based on class, this is sooooo old school. And I agree, mages should be able to cast spells without staffs and the mages power should also not depend on the staff.

I want my blood/necromancy mage wear black hooded robe with silver runes on the sleeves and black simple stave with a skull on top of it. And I want to raise the dead, expecially specific dead npc´s, whom I just killed by draining their lifeforce, from the story so that other onlookers would be scared ****less. It would be cool to have the hood binded on a key to put it on and off, with a small animation. And I want a powerword "die" spell with animations.

Just had to say that, I do not want any "men it tights" kind of mages.

How about a nice magic wand? Much easier to hide from Templars than a giant staff LOL.

The murder knife! I think it's the standard gift for a newborn in Thedas.
