Me too. I've never seen an official explanation. It may have been due to technical reasons. I'm not sure what those would be though.

Female surface dwarves only come out of their homes to yell at their husbands.

I don't think an explanation is needed, since the reason for their omission is obvious. Female Dwarves were one of the thousand corners that were cut to make the game cheaper to produce. Also gone: Halla; Shrieks; All of the new Darkspawn from Awakening; Crossbows (save for Bianca, which isn't for you); The Ranger Specialization; Arcane Warriors; Item Descriptions; Skill trees; the Top Down Camera; Modding tools; etc.

I never thought that anything horrible had happened to the female population of the dwarves. As it is, we don't see a tremendous amount of male dwarves in DA2. I just figured that when it came time for the merchants guild and such to conduct business in Kirkwall, the womenfolk were a little uneasy - "Kirkwall, huh? Hmm...nah...I'll pass. I hear that Ostwick is nice this time of year. The rest of you can enjoy the craziness...I mean, the City of Chains. Have fun!"

Very much yuppers. There is absolutely no story related explaination.

The pc version of DA3 better have all of that and more, and have the combat fixed so mobs don't spawn on you,  have good characters, a plot with significanly fewer plot holes, no unnatural melodramatic love relationships that are painfully forced into the game.

Coming from someone with +200 hours on the PC with all DA:O content, and 11 hours on DA2.

Recalled to Orzammar for an emergency post-blight population boosting mating festival. This is also why Oghren isn't around.

The ability to dual wield or be an archer as a warrior was another omission which went a bit too far. From your list I'd say the removal of certain specializations, item descriptions as well as DW warriors were cuts that went too far and negatively impacted DA:2.

I'd add Kossith that don't all look exactly the same, unique environments etc.

The game was rushed.  Why do you think Fenris has no shoes??? No Female dwarves. Shoeless Fenris equal rushed game and too short of a development cycle.

Yes, there is that. I think lack of shoes is an art style choice, like elven faces, rather than them being rushed. I'd hav prferred humans with pointy ears if it meant other facets weren't cut/rushed.

Someone else got it right imo.. it was cost cutting rather than rushing (or a bit of both).

varric: **** if i know, i kept asking for cute dwarven women to come work at the hanged man and in 6 years i have known hawke i never saw a dwarven girl in kirkwall...hmmm, maybe i could spin a story about the disappearance of dwarven girls with hawke at the center of it all.

hawke: varric, please don't.

varric: fine, fine *begins writing*

Varric's bizarre weaponsexuality causes him to remove all references to dwarven women from his stories. They love the chest hair, but he denies them. Thus he can't be bothered to mention them to Cassandra.

In short, DA2's female dwarves are hanging out with DAO's horses. ;)

Varric actually does make reference to being set up with a girl from another house … who keeps trying to poison them.

I suspect, much like hunger demons, they didn't have time to create a model for female dwarves. Or maybe they didn't like the model they came up with.

There are no dwarven women.

Dwarves just spring from holes in the ground.

I think that was an artistic choice. They even draw attention to the elves' shoelessness in dialogue. (Merrill: Everything here is cold, hard stone. I wished I'd worn shoes with soles now.)

Apparently the plague that wiped out almost all the women in Battletanx migrated into Thedas and mutated to kill dwarven women this time.

Female dwarves weren't in the game because there was no story to be told with them in DA2.

But if Bioware only included races based on whether or not there was a story to tell, wouldnt there be no characters at all?

Nonsense.    You fight Carta Thugs in DA2, and again in Legacy.  They're all male Dwarves.    Yet, There's exactly ZERO lore dictating that only male Dwarves  can be in the Carta.   (in fact, there were female dwarves in the Carta in DA:O.)  So tell us why there are none in DA2.

They could have just had them walking around in Hightown like those other wandering dwarves.

I love how the diehards excuse everything.
