As others have said, the design of this movie was done way before Mass Effect. The movie wasn't as...err scary as people said it was. As a guy who wasn't really into the Alien series, I was left with a lot of questions. Time to go watch those movies.

Also, didn't AvP happen in Present Time? Did that break cannon or does this movie break cannon? So confused...

The Pirates broke the cannon by using the wrong ammunition.....

After seeing that horrible actress ruin Aeon Flux, no thanks. They'll mess the ME movie up well enough without putting her in it.

Pretty sure it broke cannon. That is why it was not advertised as an Alien prequel. But it is, and I think AVP is balls, so I'll just take Prometheus as the prequel.

This film was good to first half because it was little different that what we got in previous SCIFI films but than came Aliens cliché and here we go again last half of film turns to massacre.

Thing which look interesting about that film:
0. Mysterious giant human which killing himself on earth to give life this planet - give us... civilizations and their connections to one star system ... such a mystery what will be there, questions and answers ...

Things what I don´t get :
1. In resumé: Travel through space for 2 years to find a answers - find a ruins or catacombs - find an alien life forms which start killing crew - find a giant human sleeping in stasis chamber - wake him up for recieving answers ... you get none

Thing which was funny:
2. Dude wake up - maybe 3 meters high human cool loking but first thing which he did instead of speaking was the chop head off from robot and use it as weapon to kill 3 other peoples ...
(From now I will use instead purge it with fire - purge it with robot head)

Thing which upset me :
3. Last scene was in style film Alien where some kind of freaking monster crawl from corpse . The thing which upset me was the fact that Alien looking same as ALIEN - from serie Alien VS Predator ... O MAJ GAD

ENDing Rewiev:
70% - film was great from start, it´s better than average SCIFI films but after first half where you could feel uniqe story (which was realy great) it turns into old Alien VS Predator massacre. Work of Ridley Scott was obvious, his job with atmosphere is great but after what it turns to Alien massacre I was just when it turns to another PURGE IT WITH FIRE...

To be fair, that really wasn't her fault.  Under the right director, Theron's able to deliver strong, complex characters.

Karyn Kusama, who also ran Jennifer's Body into the ground, is/was not the right director.

OMFG Really? If anything Mass Effect took design from Alien... OP go watch the original Alien then watch the all the rest you will see. I half expected an alien to randomly pop out at some point... heck that would have been an awesome mission!

I just consider her bland. Granted, she was good in Monster, but after hearing her go on and on about how difficult it was to make herself “ugly” for the role made me see her in an egotistical light. I really haven't seen her in anything worthy after that role. Just another generic Hollywood actress who relies on the cast around her to shine. It's just my opinion, of course.

 
Also, she is a huge hypocrite. She scolds and berates people for wearing fur, then shows up at premieres wearing leather dresses and such. bleh

Noomi Rapace which played archeologist in that film also did great job and not just in Prometheus but look into Sweden original of trilogy: 
 The Girl with the Dragon Tatto.
(LoL even Gillian Anderson or Kate Beckinsale would be fine...)

But hard to say who would be a Sheppard in Mass Effect film, otherwise it´s possible that there will be a men shep ... I guess more than possibile because most films have a men as main protagonist and not woman ...

Prometheus was good, but I don't think it was stellar. It had a lot going for it, but the plot was...crazy.
As for Theron, whilst I like her, her character in this movie was...wasted, and I'd elaborate more, but I don't want to spoil anything for those interested in seeing it.

Also, as some advice for those who have not seen it, watch it as it's own movie, and don't measure it up to Alien, it'll be much more enjoyable.

I smell a director's cut and sequel(s) in the future.

I saw it today. Overall it was good, id give it a 4/5 perhaps a 3.5. Ridley specifically made it so that it could be a stand alone movie, but it was also made in such a way for a sequel in mind as well, he pretty much left it up to how well ti does int he box office. It pretty much throws a lot of small unanswered questions at you and one large one at the end. It is a very very good start up movie for more movies to come after it, not so much a stand alone in my opinion.

Also AvP has nothing to do with the Alien story line aside from taking Ridley's Alien.

It is the Alien from the other movies, Prometheus is supposed to be a prequel to the Alien movies. That was the Alien in a very early stage of its evolution. Though Ridley did state that if there is to be a Prometheus story line it will very much deviate from the Alien story line, pretty much it will be a stand alone story with ties / small ties to the Alien movies.

You can´t be serious ... We have a films:
Alien VS Predator 1,2 (start of 21st century with Aliens and Predators both looking differently from Prometheus )
Otherwise it was told that long ago Predators used Earth as great farm for Aliens, after what they grew strong enough it turns to big bloody Arena.

Alien 1,2,3 (future - Sigorney Weaver - it would be understandable that is Prequel only for Alien but otherwise it´s crap)
It´s only possibile way that could be a Prequel but problem is that the ship which they found ... that is ship from end of AvP 1...here we go again - it can´t be prequel - it´s just copied some idea from other films...

Problem of your theory sir, is simple fact that these films are too strong connected together to be otherwise...

Still it´s sound like a crap that is in same universe - Yeah there is maybe dozen of different species which looking fun in breeding these Aliens on planets with primitive lifeforms ... LoL

For what it's worth, the Alien and Predator universe has never been quite clear on what's canon and what's...expanded lore. I know there are offical comics out there in which the Xenomorphs actually end up taking over Earth and creating..unusual hybirds. I mean facehuggers on Ostrich kind of hybrid...

But Prometheus tried to tie all of the movies together, it just...went an abstract route (It actually makes Alien Ressurection make sense, if that's not a scary thought, I don't know what else is). I really want to like it, but I'm left grasping for more, and hopefully jusst a tad more coherent story/plot if they decide to continue this as a series as I mentioned in an earlier post.

Even though Mass Effects ending destroyed the replayability of the entire series for me.. I still have a great respect for the universe they created (and a longing to get back into it but I can't because of the ending). But even I would NEVER dream of saying Ridley Scott ripped off Mass Effect... It's seriously disturbing anyone thinks that.

 Just to clarify for those who aren't aware of how this fits into the Aliens universe;

Prometheus is set before Alien, Aliens, 3 and Resurrection, in the same universe and canon, but with its own connected but basically seperate narrative.

This is an alternate past to the AvP films, that is now te 'real' past for the Alien franchise, and is effectively writing those two cack fests out of the Alien universe canon. It's possible AvP is still canon for the Predator franchise though.

And on topic, dear gods no, Ridley Scott did not rip off a computer game for a new entry into one of the most legendary and well crafted Sci Fi universe ever made, that he created decades ago. Any homaging is Mass Effect swiping from the Alien universe, NOT the other way around.
