So, I've just completed the Dissent quest while replaying Dragon Age 2, and the short part about the lyrium smugglers in the leading to the Gallows has me thinking that having a Lyrium Smuggler Dwarf as a companion would really fit it with what we of Dragon Age 3's storyline, namely the Templar/Mage conflict. I know there's already a section asking what type of companions people would like to see in Dragon Age 3 ...

... but I'd like to get people's opinions on this type of character in particuar. Any comments?

Could come in useful, considering the possibility to have a Templar in your party. And the Lyrium Smuggler Dwarf might show you some hidden paths, you would never get to know without him.

I am actually voting for the player characther being the lyrium smuggler - plenty a reason for the character to hanging out with both templars and mages. and also for the less idealistic/zealot templar and mage companion for tolerating the other.

A warden companion (not the PC) who's investigating whatever big boogaly the wardens were looking for in the deep deep roads Hawke went into or trying to hunt down Corypheus. Stroud was there (Act 1), Alistair/Stroud was in Kirkwall doing something (more important than a Qunari invasion in Act 2) and Nathaniel was there (Act 3) following information gotten from Bartrand and "mysterious new allies".  A lot of activity for an area without an actual chapter of Wardens assigned to it.

Plus, Corypheus is still about (in either Larius, Janeka or a wholly new body, ala Archdemon trick) and could prove far deadlier than a Blight.

Dangling plot lines scream for resolution, the kind only a warden can resolve effectively. While I prefer it to be a companion NOT a PC, I'd like to see these plot lines be addressed as either a major quest line, a focus for a DLC or something befitting the importance of the peril.

Would be interesting to see if the companion is truthful with his friend/romantic interest, or keeps secrets only coming out finally when he/she needs new PC's help.  Would make an interesting story, anyway.

And yes, I agree, a smuggler companion would make an interesting one too, but only if she/he's more Sigrun/Varric-like than dwarf-like because I hated the Orzammar dwarves in DAO.  (Dagna the only exception and even she wasn't very dwarflike).  The only dwarves I HAVE liked (Sigrun, Varric, Gorim) were not 'standard type' DAO dwarves.

In fact, I had in mind a character similar toVarric, heck if Bioware can work it out ... let the Lyrium Smuggler be Varric, we already know he does some slightly shady dealings lol

I always wondered about Gorim. Like Jowan, I was disappointed when neither were actual companions. When I first played the Redcliffe Castle part, I was SO SURE that I was about to get a BLOOD MAGE companion.

And Sigrun died in my Awakening game, so that wouldn't work. I got her last, so the stupid game wouldn't let me do her joining.

I would love to have a lyrium smuggler in my party in DA3. I started writing my own fanfic about lyrium smuggling. Not too far along on it though.

It does just seem the logical route to go. If we're talking about a game centered around a mage and templar war, lyrium is going to play a very large part. It would give us an interesting dwarven character, male or female doesn't really matter, I've seen a large calling for another female dwarven companion. Then again, we could do like Awakening, and have 2 dwarven companions ...

As long as it isn't Oghren.  I liked him okay in Origins, but not so much in Awakenings.  In fact, it seems every time Bioware 'brings back an old favorite' they fubar him up almost beyond recognition.  For the same reason I don't want Sigrun back either.  I'd rather remember her fondly.

Other than the possibility of Varric possibly returning, which I slightly doubt, I'd say we need two new Dwarves. The Lyrium Smuggler and one "unconventional" Dwarf ...

You rly had to work to get involved in Oghren's story in Awakening. His whole "baby daddy" issue was kind of funny though. And Sigrun died in my game.
