Honestly that wouldn't surprise me in the least if that were true.

Nah, Hackett's a white guy.

I hadn't considered this possibility before. It's brilliant.

Not really.

If Hackett was the father in the spacer background, Shep would be known as Commander Hackett rather than Commander Shepard. Shep's parents were together when he was a child.

Also people can create custom Sheps that are Asian, African, ect. That automatically rules out Hackett as a deadbeat dad. The different racial backgrounds for Shepard also rule out TIM as a deadbeat dad.

Rather than being related to a character we've already met, I think Shepard was the son of some other guy named Shepard who died at some point prior to Mass Effect 1.

I might be imagining this but when Spacer Shep calls their mother in ME1, doesn't she say "We're both very proud of you" or something along those lines? I had assumed Shep's dad was alive in ME1.

Shepard could've used their mother's name to prevent people from assuming that Shepard was getting all these assignments due to nepotism.

As to possibly looking very different from Hackett, we have no idea what their mother looks like.

If TIM were Shep's father they'd have to do the Star Wars bit.

The simplest explanation is usually the most likely one. In this case that Shepard is named Shepard, because that was his father's name.

Also while we've never seen Hannah Shepard, the player does know what Commander Shepard looks like. The player can for example create a custom Shep that looks 100% African or 100% Asian, which makes a caucasian father a bit hard to explain. Given that some custom Sheps would bear no resemblance to Hackett, I don't think he is intended to be Shepard's father in the spacer origin.

Finally, if the writers had intended for Hackett to have been spacer Shep's father, it would have been revealed at some point prior to the conclusion of Shepard's story.

Father is never mentioned, but I recall Hannah says "you're making us proud". The "us" always made me wonder, because it implies Shep's dad is still around

My bet is that Space Shep's dad is one of three men, Zaeed Massani, Vido Santiago, or Admiral Steven Hackett.

The 'us' could mean humanity or the Alliance as a whole. And as I've pointed out before, in ME2 the e-mail you get from Hannah uses singular terms. Specifically  'my child' instead of 'our child' and  'keep doing your mom proud' instead of 'your parents'.

Shepard doesn't make any mention of their father to Garrus when they talk about their families after Palaven either.

So its highly likely he was killed at some point prior to ME1.

I don't know but I always head cannon Zaeed as Shep's dad. Earthborn and Spacer. I love that old bad ass.

Hackett is a cool idea for spacer Shep. He was born in Argentina so I don't consider him Caucasian.

She says ''you're making us proud'' by which she probably means the Alliance and its people in general, rather than ''Me and dad''.

Since Shep's father is never mentioned, other than Shepard saying to Ashley ''My parents were both navy'' - when he talks about his childhood -, it's a safe bet to assume that Shep's father is dead.
