Fair Isabela

To each their own. People can play their game however they please. You like lovely fair skin? Go for it. You like sweet exotic tones? Go for it.
Personally, I just like her having red hair like she did in Origins, because it's cool. And secondly, the lighting in the Pearl is so rubbish that it's impossible to tell that she's supposed to be darker skinned. People's idea of what she should look like can go either way. Whichever Isabela suits their tastes, they will have.

I think Isabela is a lot better with her dark skin. It fits lore, it suits her, and it makes her just damn sexy.
Using mods to make her white is racist. Even if it's what they prefer. If she was real, and I asked her to whiten her skin to make her more attractive, I'd be considered racist, right?
So using logic...racism.

I would have to agree, but then I find the dark skin very exotic and sexy.
Also I swear in origins she is fairly dark skinned (not as much) and still had brown hair.

I think it's going a bit far calling it racist. Bioware made her skin darker for DA2 and that wasn't racist, was it? So modding her to make her resemble her original appereance in Origins should't be considered racist either. Most Definitely Sane wrote...

I've also seen people use mods in Origins to make her resemble her DA2 appearence, is that racist? (same thing right?).

"Basically, this is a complete revamp of Isabela. She is by far my favorite companion in DA2, but I couldn’t stand her overly dark… everything! (just not my type). So, I put my PS skills and patience to the test and started makin her a whole new kind of beautiful! The work was worth it cause here she is, in all her fair skinned, blonde haired and blue eyed glory."
Seriously? Screw you man.
Otherwise I really don't give a damn. It's not in my game.
That said Isabela was NEVER white and redheaded. The lighting in the Pearl just blows. If you look at her morph in the toolset she's clearly darkskinned with dark brown hair.

She was dark-skinned with dark brown/black hair in Origins. The lighting there was crap, but the actual morph shows that her skin color and her hair color are virtually, if not entirely, unchanged.
She was never white with red hair.

Well, she appeared white and redheaded. Which, considering she's not a real person, is arguably more important than her "objective" appearance.

No she was not, her skin tone in DA:O is the next to darkest in the CC. The lighting in the Pearl just doesn't make it apparent.
The only mod for Isabela that I like is the one that gives her her DA2 appearance in DA:O. I haven't seen a single DA2 modification I would ever use for her.
Edit; here she is in the toolset, she looks pretty brown to me:

According to David Gaider, Isabela always had dark skin. Gaider says the promo art of her being pale is a marketing error. In Origins, she is actually dark skinned, but the lighting of the game makes her pale. You can check this by putting her model into the model program and seeing it without the game's lighting.
The reference for that comes from a Q&A that Gaider did, which is summarized in this Tumblr post as:
On the subject of Izzy, he and our Isabella had a fantastic discussion on how Isabela is a strong, compelling character who is not weakened by her lack of pants, and also always had dark skin, thank you. He added that the promo art of Izzy being really pale is actually something that marketing did that was incorrect. She was always meant to be dark. In Origins, she is really dark, but the lighting of the game makes her pale (if you pop her into the model program, she has super tan skin).
And, a quote within a quote from Gaider, from about a year ago. Regarding Isabela's appearance in DA2, he states:
"I think she looks great (and she was always Rivaini and dark-skinned, as I recall the lighting in the Pearl just made it difficult to tell)."

She sure doesn't look white and redheaded to me. She's clearly darker in my eyes than the Warden and Alistair. And closer to Zevran's color. Her skin looks pretty bleh because Origins made darker skin textures look pretty bad most of the time (thankfully that was improved in DA2). She looked more darkly tanned and a really dark burgendy (I can't spell that color to save my life). I really didn't see how people though she was white. There were other white people in the pearl and they didn't look like she did.

I thought this thread was going to be a romantic poem about Isabela.
As changeable and shifting as the sea
Her eyes a tempest, hair all tossed by wind
Now anchored here in Kirkwall's harbor's lee
A siren tempting lad and lass to sin.
Her laughter loud and free as gulls that cry
No silver fish, fast-finned, has greater grace
Than Isabela, dueling for the prize.
There's promises of pleasure writ upon her face.
But pirates bury treasure under sand
As fair as she is, I seek hidden gold
Not kisses sought, but leave to hold her hand
To sail, we two, until the sun grows cold.
She freely gives of every lovely part
Except the one I crave: her broken heart.

And.. *ahem* the priiiiiiize
So, having been a fair-skinned girl all my life and listened to people describe my complexion as "disgusting", and even once or twice allowed the pressure to conform to modern-day beauty ideals convince me to put my body in a person-sized oven to toast my skin into a darker color (in my case, bright blotchy pink) - I'm a little hacked off by the same mentality that would drive players to turn our Isabela into some kind of Aryan race poster child.
The girl is dark. She's Rivaini. And a pirate. Maybe it's just a game, but people's responses to this fictional character's appearance is a reflection of something ugly that still lingers in our culture. It's not racism, exactly - it's more like a failure on our part to appreciate that there are different, but just as legitimate and striking kinds of beauty. Isabela has her own - let her rock it. If you don't find her beautiful by the end of DAII you really haven't been paying attention to her story arc. The idea that you'd need to "fix" someone's appearance in order to appreciate them... that's just kind of abhorrent.
I've read a few posters (not in this thread) argue that Isabela's dark skin and hair just don't match her face shape and that's why they make her white and blonde. Absolute bull. It's a rare case when I can honestly write back to another player and think "you're wrong. We don't just disagree - you're actually completely, inarguably wrong." No one knows the character better than the developers. They made Isabela exactly what she's meant to be. Players can prefer to change her, but her appearance wasn't a sad Bioware mistake - it's who Isabela was meant to be.

People want their fantasy version of Isabelia just like a lot of people who are posting on this thread want their fantasy version of some other characters.
Lots of double standards going on.

Oh I have one too that I wrote before DA2 even came out
Isabela
She who hails from the Rivain
mistress of the high seas,
is a tempest of hottest winds
uplifts thy sails
and tauts thy strings.
Isabela
Such a duelist of apt ability
flexible, nimble-
No sword has grazed her sun kissed skin
no man has masked her agility,
thus her daggers spare none.
Blessed is thou
who boards her ship, The Sirens Call,
for her greatest skill
is laid under the bow.
It is here
where the tallest masts are climbed
and rocking wet waves conquered.
She is a woman of taste,
with a tongue that knows no bias.
She is Isabela.

I mean , Good for you.But every time I see a modded screen of the game , specially when companions are changed , it is almost alway in a watered down way.
Isabella became white and blonde , Aveline lose her big chin , etc...It's not always the case.
But sometimes i wonder if people miss playing Ken and Barbie.
Now it's not in my game ,but i've seen enough of photoshop people for a lifetime.

I hope that remark isn't supposed to be towards me because if so it's not the same thing. You ever point out one single time any BW het LI said they weren't attracted to the s/s then you'd have a point. Isabela is clearly darkskinned in game. (Why Marketing made her white I'll never understand) But again I clearly said I didn't care what others did in their game. Just that she was never white (and she wasn't. Only time she was white was in promo pics and there's some things I can say about that that I won't...) and the description of the mod disgusted me. But whateves.

Haha, Much agreed. I was actually going to post something similar.
That being said I hope we get to meet some more Rivaini folk in the next game. I really enjoyed Isabela as she was/is and it made me sad that others felt the need to change her.
