The fact that you can't even engage without immediately resorting to a racial slur is telling.

It is possible to not like how a skin tone looks in a game without being racist. Especially when Word of God even declares that the engine used process skin tones poorly.

I'm a quarter Italian. I use that word to describe overly-fake tanned people who listen to sh!tty techno music and are quite promiscuous.

She's Rivaini.

Yeah, and I always pictured Rivaini and Antiva being something like Spain or Portugal

Modding her white and then saying "ah, that's better" is pretty hard to explain if you aren't a racist. The game's engine is irrelevant.

The engine does not handle dark skin tones as well as light skin tones. DG said that. So if someone dislikes how the dark tone looks because it does not render well and applies a tone that the engine can handle much much better they are automatically a racist?

How do you rationalize the description that goes with the mod?

I've always thought that the Rivaini draw similarities from all of the different cultures that live around the Mediterranean Sea, such as Italy, Egypt, Libya, and so on (in particular, their darker skin tones).

On topic, I think Isabela looks perfect the way she was designed, and would personally never mod her to make her look lighter in skin tone.

Which one? There are several mods that make Isabela look paler.

Anyways, I justify them all as personal preference. I'm not attracted to Indian girls, but that doesn't make me an anti-Indian bigot does it? It isn't wrong not to be attracted to someone.

Only if you essentially say "that Indian girl could actually be cute if she changed her skin and hair color."
That would make you racist and also, unofficially, a jerk.

I assume you miss the description that was posted twice in this thread. So here it is in all it detail:

Basically, this is a complete revamp of Isabela.  She is by far my favorite companion in DA2, but I couldn’t stand her overly dark… everything! (just not my type). ;) So, I put my PS skills and patience to the test and started makin her a whole new kind of beautiful! The work was worth it cause here she is, in all her fair skinned, blonde haired and blue eyed glory.

Yes.

Isabela's skin color renders fine. It looks fine. Again, this person is saying she's unattractive by virtue of her skin color. This person is "fixing" that by making her white.

I don't think there is any other way to explain that away.

It is simply personal preference. The individual simply dislikes the look of the dark skinned Isabela. That doesn't necessarily translate to "I hate all people that are not fair skinned". Just because you do not find a skin tone attractive, doesn't mean you are a racist.

I think some people might be overreacting a bit here.

I never stated anyone was a racist. I find it interesting that he states but I could not stand her overly dark everything and then turns her into a fair skinned blond hair blue eyed beauty which basically sends her to an opposite extreme.

I really didn't want to have to do this....

We haven't had very dark skin tones because the Eclipse engine doesn't render them well. Once you try anything much darker than Isabela, the skin renders as very blotchy and unpleasant-looking. Ideally this is something we can fix.- David Gaider

Isabela is right on the border of being too dark for the Eclipse engine to handle properly. Someone who is running DA2 might have expierence some blotches.

I never said you did, however several individuals on here are.

Some people also modded DAO to be in same sex relationships with Alistair and Morrigan, make Leliana a mage, or radically change Oghrens appearance. That is simply personal preference.

The guy/girl probably wanted the ****ty pirate lady to look like his ideal woman.

No but this is.

What I hated most about vanilla Isabela was how she flashes everyone when she does those flips in combat.

I love Isabela pants. I love it. So hard. I give her the leather. XD

Seriously I wouldn't even care about this mod if not for that slightly disgusting mod description.

As for blotchiness in DA. I saw that alot more in DAO than DA2. DAO I couldn't even make the black warden I wanted to make because I kept looking her skin and going WTF?

In DA2 I don't know. I have maxed settings and she looks fine to me. No excessive blotchiness or anything (to be honest I'm more bothered by the always flushed look Hawke has on his cheeks unless I give him facial hair). Her and Fenris look fine.

You didn't need to do that. I'm aware of that exact quote, which is from the color blind casting thread from a few weeks back, and I referred back to it when I made that post. I think my point stands.

Isabela is handled fine. Bioware obviously thought so. And unmodded, she will look the same to everyone. If someone takes issue with her skin color... It's because of the color, not the texture or the "blotches" that you're so fixated on. Yeah.

Regardless, Isabela is clearly not white. Your hypothetical person is still "fixing" her by whitewashing her. Which is their right - people can mod however they like. But when they proudly proclaim it on the forums, they shouldn't be surprised when any person with a brain and a bit of empathy and social awareness calls them on their racism.

Everyone. any skin darker than Isabelas will not work well with the engine. Refer to Word of God in one of my previous posts.

There's a lot more to racism than direct hatred. For instance, low expectations. For instance, everything after and before "(just not my type)."

Darker being the keyword. Izzy's pretty dark and she works just fine. I don't see the need to make her white. Least of all to refer it as making her a new kind of beautiful and saying you couldn't stand her overly dark everything. Not the blotchiness of her skin, her overly darkness.

I'm sorry but that's tasteless.

Again it isn't racism if they simply do not like how the skin tone looks. they are not claiming that having dark skin makes you less of a person or anything like that. S/He is simply making isabela look like how he wants her to look, it is the same as me changing Morrigan's hair or giving Anders a beard.

I'm not attracted to very skinny girls, does that make me prejudiced against them?

Did you mention how they were overly dark and you couldn't stand it and you made them beautiful? Because if not then no I don't care. But if you did yes I'd say you had questionable motives for doing so.

It's not like the mod creator mentioned Izzy's blotchy skin. He said she was overly dark. I'm sorry but there's no way to make that look pleasant. There's just not.

Not to mention I feel that mod you're using makes Morrigan and Leliana look hideous and ridculously OOC (on Morrigan's end at least)

and 99.99999999% of DA2 face replaces to me are  worthy. I haven't found a decent one yet other than the Fenris fix one. And it keeps his face and skin color the same just makes him look less weathered. (I got that confused with the glow one. I stopped using it because I thought it made him too pale and flushed).

What also made me wonder was that it was one of the most download mods on dragon nexus. So I can only assume that it is the preference of a great many people. Makes me go hmmm.
