Grenade Capacity Gear (What Were You Thinking?)

 I've suggested this change to the grenade capacity bonus gear in various responses to other threads, but I felt it was about time I gave it its own thread.

Currently, you can have a ton of grenades to spam all at once with grenade capacity boosts and ammo packs. I think this is a little much. The issue with grenades was never what we could hold, but rather how well we could keep them stocked.

So instead of grenade spamming insanity, how about the grenade gear fabricates us grenades periodically? This would keep us stocked and prevent raining 11 grenades on the enemy. It seems like a fair tradeoff to me.

As for the actual times between granting us grenades, I'm not offering a suggestion on that just to have half of BSN bite my head off.

Keyword being 'can.' My only grenade capacity upgrade is Warfighter I, which grants me a total of one extra grenade. The dudes who post YouTube Gold speedruns may have an insane amount of grenades to spam, but the vast majority don't and won't for some time. I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

Good idea, but I don't think Bioware will make such a fundamental change to an item in the game. I don't think they've ever done that in multiplayer - correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe they balanced it by making the Gear items incredibly hard to get hold of? I've spent 5 million credits on PSPSsince the DLC release, yet I haven't even got Grenade Capacity I yet.

I think the grenade capacity increase was introduced to curb complaints of ammo box restocking, but that's just my opinion. Regardless, I have yet to play with someone who has this upgrade, but I can imagine that at the higher levels it's like raining down fire on the enemy.

It would be cool for the gear to stock grenades to us though. Seems like a lot more people would use it and would tone down ammo box competition.

I actually don't have the grenade gear yet either. In fact, I've had horrible luck with the gear in general. I just think giving us more capacity wasn't the way to go about fixing grenades.

Once you use them, you can't keep them fully stocked on silver / gold without ammo packs (which should be for emergencies, not spamming unholy hellfire), which makes the intention of curbing grenade supply obsolete.

I think it would be cool if the game restocks at least one grenade after each wave, since its a lot harder now to restock our grenades between each waves, with the shorter waiting time in between waves and what not.

Something like this?

Grenade Gear
R1 +1 grenade
R2 spawn 1 grenade every 30 seconds
R3 +1 grenade
R4 spawn 1 grenade every 20 seconds
R5 +1 grenade

Changes the numbers to 60 seconds and 40 seconds for the Warfighter gear. Done.

I don't even have lvl1 of that gear... and even if i will have lvl5, here is still only 1-2 grenades in the box. 4 on bronze... but who cares about bronze :)

If it will refill grenades, it will be even more "OP" than now actually, so nothing wrong here.

I disagree that they should be just for emergencies. Before the patch and the new gear came along all you ever heard about ammo packs on this board was how useless they were and how many everyone had sitting around, so I think it's good that there's now a clear incentive to use them.

Grenade Capacity II is already pretty crazy with my QMI. Dropping four arc grenades on a spawn with the cloak damage bonus is insane. Can't wait until I have seven.

I'm unsure of your intented meaning here. I think spawning grenades periodically is less OP than being able to drop 55 grenades in a row.

It would make grenades function like a queued cooldown power that can stack up 2-3 times before use.

Feels badly trolled when you could have 5 (or even more) nades and ammo boxes give ONE nade.
Makes me cry like a little baby each time.

SP have given me a lot more gear drops than PSPs.  They have always been in the 4th slot of the SP.

I'd be on board with that.

It would make it more fun to play a grenade using class with randoms who are also using grenade classes without the objective turning into "rush the ammo box."  It would also level out the maps a bit, as smaller maps with more ammo boxes favor grenade chuckers a lot more than more spread out maps where you take more time to resupply.

The grenades boxes aren't made to give player specific grenades. It would be kind of pointless to have to rewrite the grenade box just for that one item. The grenade gear gives you more grenades, so you can spam them. It doesn't make the grenade boxes give you more ammo, so keeping them stocked is still going to be just as difficult.

NO. The max is 9 with Frags, and 8 with all others. You run out fast on one grenade per box maps (All except Ghost, Hydra, Jade, and Goddess), and not many clases have good grenades.

Right now it's just more dumb luck injected into the gameplay mechanics, since you have to wait for RNG to give you the grenade capacity upgrades out of scores (taking levels into account) of available gear. I think a better way to handle the grenade issue would be to

1) Have grenades refill like ammo at the end of each wave

2) Have grenades restock at each ammo box at the current rate of non-bugged maps but only grant one grenade per player each time. However, all players would be able to get one grenade from a box regardless of whether another player just got one.

This would take randomness out of the equation (yay, tactical gameplay!) and make grenade stocking a little bit less of an annoyance (especially since they've made the decision to shorten the interwave time to under 5 seconds).

I have the grenade upgrade at 3 ( and it took a bunch of psp to get ). I played last night QMI and I started the night with 255 ammo packs, now I have 171. The problem with the ammo refil is that there are some maps where you only get one grenade per ammo depot, sometimes none. So what I end up doing is save the ammo packs for if we get a hack objective. With the QMI his only offensive powers are cloak and grenades ( the scan is more of a group service ).

That's 60-90 grenades for a 30 minute match...
