Very late.

Unless you're a wizard poised to strike the hammer blow that ends Synthesis once and for all.

Nope, this battle will continue as long as evil dark speculation magic exsist.

You know what gets to me here? That people are so ruthless in their perceived moral superiority that they'd lobby that Bioware should take other players' choices out of the game, ruining their games. I mean...wow...that's really impressive. /sarcasm.

And they wonder why I call them intolerant.

You have to fight magic with magic.
Sadly, Bioware holds all the magic. And they use it for bad.

They're playing with things they don't understand, with power they shouldn't be able to use.

I would wonder.

Clearly, that's the opinion of someone who doesn't have a clue whats's going on.

Who doesn't understand what DLC is.

The whole Synthesis discussion is based on pipe dreams.
The Catalyst's whole explanation of Synthesis can fit into a single tweet. He doesn't tell you anything about how it works or its consequences. At the moment, it's impossible to make any assumptions on what actually happens in Synthesis.
It's a gamble with the laws of nature. It may be one of the best allegories for playing god in a video game ever. You do something that may advance life but may also doom all life forever.

My thoughts on life and Synthesis

Some people, they like to go out dancing
And other peoples, they have to work, Just watch me now!
And there's even some evil mothers
Well they're gonna tell you that everything is just dirt
Y'know that, women, never really faint
And that villains always blink their eyes, woo!
And that, y'know, children are the only ones who blush!
And that, life is just to die!
And, everyone who ever had a heart
They wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who ever played a part
Oh wouldn't turn around and hate it!

I'm more than tolerant. I've told you multiple times how much I appreciate what you've done for YOUR version of Synthesis.

But anytime I bring up a reasonable critcism, it all goes to hell.

I've done much to convince myself that Synthesis is the better choice that I forgotten how reluctant I was to choose it the first time, and only did so because I was found myself unable to choose Control. Destroy was simply out of the question because of the strong relationship I developed with EDI and the Geth. There's no chance I would sacrifice myself to murder my strongest allies, my most helpful squad mate, and the future of the life, as far I'm concerned.

Still I never got the impression that Synthesis removed choice and free will, such as it is that exists. My biggest problem with it was that Shepard had to die doing it. Why, indeed? What is Synthesis really? That made it seem deeply suspicious. If it's a new era of life, then Shepard should be alive to see it.

I just hope they explain more of what Synthesis is in the EC. I can't defend it much further until then. If it relies on vitalism, which it seems to, that sort of guts the meaning for me. Does organic life rely more on dark energy or eezo or some other substance that artificial life lacks that gives it a soul? Or is Mass Effect's conception of the soul one of a greater complexity and sophistication of intelligence?

Calling it rape or molestation must be at least as stupid as my own views on it because neither of us can be sure what it actually is.

Keep your precious synthesis for all I care. But if you're going to defend it here, you can bet I'll argue against it.
In the end all I want is the option to do what I set out to do. Resist the Reapers.

And they wonder why I call them intolerant.

Hey, the U.S. doesn't let members of the KKK sit in Congress. I guess they're intolerant too.

LOL.

No but seriously.

The Geth are dead in my playthrough. I'm shooting the pipe and going home.

The fallacious argument that the Star Child presents means nothing to me.

And the Star Gazer scene means we have no issues for at least ten thousand years.

What about Robert Bryd and David Duke?

Not trying to start something, but those guys were both in the clan and both held seats in goverment.

I'm not American and don't know specifics, I'd just assume they wouldn't be that stupid, and that doing so would not be considered "intolerant".
Also, are they current or former members. I assume former, or...

Assuming what we're literally seeing is reality and not a trap, then the problem I and so many others have with synthesis is that you are forcing people to conform without consent. If an individual wants to choose synthesis for themselves, not a problem. When you want to impose synthesis upon the entire galaxy without a clear understanding of the consequences...well, there's just something inherently wrong with that. Reminds me of the old Soviet Union. Equality for all. Prosperity for none.

(But really, it's a trap;)

Yeah there is that, but my the general idea behind my post stands.

I've been more than supportive of Ieldra. But the moment I inject thought into the process nothing I say is valid.

Like I was told yesterday that because the Catalyst said some "will happen" it overrides the appeal to probability fallacy he presents.

No. It doesn't.

FAIL.

Maybe that's because some of your criticism doesn't look all that reasonable from the other side. For instance your argument about the singularity (let's not get into that) or the nature of the Catalyst. Pure speculation.

I accept the moral problem with Synthesis. I've tried to deal with it in my scenario, tweaking it in order to minimize its impact. Enough to justify it to myself. And yes, it is a risky choice, a jump into the unknown. I make that choice nonetheless. Others choose Destroy to avoid the risk, and I understand that.

But every other anti-Synthesis argument I've seen is based on false assumptions and/or insufficient data. Just as every single anti-Control argument, btw. All of them are based on insufficient data (no data in many cases), interpretations their opponents don't share, philosophies their opponents dislike (like I dislike "we shouldn't have that power"), or just plain nonsense. People will, of course, disagree about all that, but nobody has a reason to feel superior because of it. It's this insufferable certainty I can't stand.
