Just as the title says EA let Pandemic "go" along with many other developers, part of the staffs have been relocated to EALA and several projects have been cancelled. Opinions?

Shocking. Absolutely amazingly astoundingly surprising.

Okay, I'm not even fooling myself here. This comes as no surprise if it's true. EA only holds unto successful development houses. None are too sacred to escape their figurative executioner's axe, and Pandemic was obviously not producing the results EA's executives were hoping for.

I guess we shouldn't expect any DLC for The Saboteur.

Oh well.

They make pretty bad PC ports so not complaining.

Battlefront II was good though.

There go my hopes for Battlefront 3.

Might be developed by someone else.

Good. Now maybe more resources can be put into making good games.

The future of Madden NFL 11 is now secure. :pinched:

But seriously, I have a feeling Pandemic's absence by no means suggests we will see fewer banal offerings from EA. :?

I like Destory All Humans!, but that was it. Still, it sucks that they were closed down. A lot of people were employed there and are now jobless, a very terrifying thing now a days. I wish them all the best of luck and hope that they all manage to find good jobs soon.

Sucks that people had to lose their jobs, but lets be honest here... the games they developed were pretty bad. Their most recent (The Saboteur) was decent, but nowhere near as polished as it should have been. I felt like the game was an exercise in how to fight the urge to stop doing tedious tasks repeatedly.

Climb, climb, climb... plant dynamite, light dynamite... ruuuuun! Repeat. With maybe a few drive, drive, drive or shoot, shoot, shoot thrown in for good measure.

If it continues to spread it might affect BioWare (God forbid) but many of the projects have been laid down. Also do not forget that Pandemic was acquired at the same time as BW.

With quality games like Mass Effect 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic (which will undoubtedly be an MMOCC--i.e. a massively multiplayer online cash cow) coming down the line... there is simply no way EA would touch BioWare with the layoff stick. Plus, millions of loyal fans would go berserk; myself included. I'd sit behind my keyboard and yell expletives at the EA website until my face turned blue from lack of oxygen. Then I'd throw my monitor out the window. Then maybe have a drink of tea.

If any developer is safe in these uncertain times... it's going to be BioWare.

Nice post DaeJi, i agree regarding the jobs. Wish i wasn't such a cynical bastard but in the end it's about money, the only measure of success at the top of every business. Sadly even the creative ones.

But Pandemic never made any good games. Bioware made Dragon Age. They ended up being gambled with and Pandemic obviously didn't pay off.

And it's good for Pandemic too. Now they can continue making their poor shooters with no direction on publisher they *have* to use.

Not closed down. They were seperated from
EA. So they don't have to publish through EA anymore. There's no
telling if Pandemic can survive on its own funding however.

Before they were bought by EA Pandemic and BW had joined, so the people at BW saw value within the work of Pandemic.

With the team dissolved and many of the personnel assigned to other places I think that they are pretty much done.
