I've played alot of DA:O and it is without a doubt in my top three. I never did finish DA2 because i've never really been into action games and it felt, to me atleast, more like an action game then a RPG game. I wonder if you think it will be possible to import a save game from DA:O in DA3? I haven't found any articles or forum posts regarding this but i thought that this might have been something they mentioned on that PAX panel.
Regarding importing save to DA3

Doubtful, you couldn't do this with ME1 and ME3, you had to have played ME2.

I think it will not.
Its more money for Bioware(And EA) if you must to transfer a save game from game to game in chain.

You could transfer a character from origins to awakening without having finished the playthrough, it would just guess what you would have done.
And I'm pretty sure you could import an incomplete save from origins/awakening to DA2, so I don't think it's stretch to say that if there is importing than you can probably import an incomplete DA2 save into The Next Thing.
edit: changed 'withhaving' to 'without having'

I doubt that the decision has been made yet.
AFAIK DA3 hasn't been officially announced yet anyway, has it?
