If you had to pick, do you use biotic charge defensively or offensively?

But. If you had to pick, black/white style, do you normally charge more offensively (crowd control) or defensively (shield/barrier restoration)?
I do it defensively more so than anything.

If you play a defensive Broguard you're doing something wrong. A good offense is the best defense with that character.
With the Drell it's a little bit of both: Hit and run tactics work very good. And also defensive Charge to get barriers back. The same goes for the Asari, unless you're using Stasis-Charge tactics with the Bonus Power evolution.
Kroguard, all offensive. Defensive would be stupid, IMO.Phoenix? Whatever floats your boat. I don't like the character as a whole.
But if I HAD to choose. Offensive. Without a doubt.

For lulz use offensively on Phoenix. On humans, offensively, On Krogan, offensively. Asari: defensive.

Interesting. I had a Kroguard buffed for damage and melee but found the cooldown too horrendous, so promoted and focused on weapon cooldown and outfited him with a wraith. Now I charge around constantly and feel more durable on Gold rather than ahving to take cover like after every shot.

The thing is maybe for a couple of minutes it would be defensive, sticking with the team and using other powers/weapons at range, and keeping the team safe.
But then there's always a time for maybe half a minute or so when you just go on a charging rampage, to clear an area or for (offensive) survival.

When I (finally) unlocked the Drell Vanguard, I was thrilled that he could set off his own BEs and then get all backflippy to evade close range counter attacks. And when I unlocked the Reegar, I gleefully handed this weapon over the my DV to chop down the things I missed.
In the SP campaign, I've played Vanguards in my first playthroughs of each of the games, and it was the first class I played when I started doing MP. And I was always focused more on damage output in the shortest amount of time.
Sure, I'm interested in ways to better defend and protect a Vanguard. But I kinda want those ways to support ways to kill all the things better.

....And sometimes when I want to jump a group and bomb them to death. But mostly defensively.

If you are not using it offensively then you are doing it 100% wrong.

As a whole, I feel it's a class that benefits from an aggressive gameplay.

I charge after a lash to set BE but I charge to restore my shields too.

Do Lash and then Charge set off a BE? I swear it doesn't. I get them to go off when I lash-smash or Smash-Lash or Smash-Charge but not when I Lash=Charge.

Can charge into groups and heavy mele on bronze silver and it works just like novaguard charge in and stagger everything then charge again
But its also fun to stay back and lash spam, smashing through walls when they get close >

They do (I've done it), but I find sometimes it's hard to tell whether Lash actually hit your target if it's something heavy like a Brute or Atlas, who will only sometimes be staggered by Lash.Rasputin17 wrote...

You can use it defensively while still opening a can of whoopass on a target; as a Phoenix I like to go CQC with Brutes, lash+smash, dodge, shoot a few times, lash, then he wipes my shields so I charge, and that restores my shields and finishes him offwizardryforever wrote...
I'd say that you're kind of
missing the point of Charge if you just use it for defense. It's very
name is a synonym for bold offense. Sure I'll use it to just restore my
shields every once in a while, but I find myself not bothering with it
unless I plan to open a big can of whoopass on my target then and
there. About the only time I'll use it just for defense is during a
hack objective. Otherwise, it's all offense.
