I don't have the Drell Adapt, I won't comment on him.
Human Vanguard - Both. Mostly Offensive except on Gold or with mobs, defensive.
Krogan Vanguard - Offensive. He's already a tank with shield buff. Take a shotgun/Talon and go settle things.
Asari Vanguard - Defensive. Her heavy melee is a poor man's Nova, I recommend stasis and gun for most situations.
Cerberus Vangaurd - I play offensive, but keep the range of the asari vanguard. I've seen someone use Lash as a finisher and going in glass cannon style, but I'd Slam/Charge or Lash/Charge instead.
If you had to pick, do you use biotic charge defensively or offensively?
