I too prefer a game where we chat and kill things than sit there and be silent. I dont care if someone isnt using the mic as long as they prove they are a team player but I will forsure kick a person out without a mic to replace him with a friend who has a mic. But i try to call things out just those damn enemies move fast and i usually wait to call it out after i die, only because i think i can handle it. Mostly call out Atlas and Banshees and Brutes but for some reason I dont fear the Phantoms enough to always call them out it seems, even through they are the number one thing that gets me killed by an Assault Trooper. Darn Troopers always getting off those lucky kill shots and stealing kills from their Phantoms, which i dont mine when a Phantom is trying to gut me.

But seriously ill kick someone without mic over a person with one. Always feel bad when i decide to kick someone with a mic for a friend just because i like people who i can chatter with.

Use it, hell PSN needs more people with mics, it makes games a lot better

Agreed. I don't have a mic at the moment but it's nice when those who use one actually help out the team by being vocal.

I'm getting myself a mic this week because I've honeslty felt a bit left out not having one and being able to coordinate with the people I'm playing with that do have them.

For some reason, no matter what I tweak in any settings, in or out of ME3, the push to talk button only seems to be half the battle. The other half is reaching the ridiculous volume threshold the game apparently demands before it will bring itself to transmit your voice.

The end result is that I have to yell into the mic in order for anything to go out. On either of my mics. So I just don't use the damn thing.

Use it when you feel like, I usually only talk online only with friends or when I have to say that another should know.

I have a pretty severe social phobia, but I've managed to talk to people with mics lately. It isn't quite the same worry, since as far as I know, my voice is mostly okay, but casual conversation is absurdly frightening for me.

Might as well try it. If it doesn't work out or feels wrong, you can just turn the mic off or quit the game for a bit or whatever. Nothing to lose, really.

I dont mind, but I WILL laugh at you if you squeel like a five year old girl when a banshee is chasing you around the map, just saying.

I play on PC and I wonder who even uses mic, I belive I've only heard someone say something in the very first multiplayer match I played. Since then, nothing, but I don't mind at all.

Use the mic. I find games where anyone is talking depressingly rare. The other day I had a great fun time even on bronze because people were actually talking. Not very seriously - it was bronze after all, and most of use were playing krogan, but it turned from something I'd joined to quickly grab a few more easy creds for a PSP into great fun.

He has a valid point, mics make even bronze entertaining. Use the mic and one must learn to laugh at one's self for things like that. Also effective communication is key

I'm not very good at meeting new people, and I tend to get nervous before I talk to someone. But after the initial "Hey, what's up" it's really fine. You start to get a feel for what others are like and maybe how you should behave accordingly. Don't worry about it too much.

I had a pretty cool guy respond to me and say things throughout a gold game on Firebase Jade. It was fun! Usually I'm the only one who talks and it just feels a bit awkward.

True, feels stupid to be the only one talking, can't be sure if others even hear you and if you're just talking to yourself.

I never use the mic because I really don't want to explain stuffs every single round... and I don't mind losing. It's better to lose early than try hard carrying and still fails...

I would like to use a mic, but to do it, i have to boost recording gain to maximum, and that way i can hear terrible noise over speakers all the time, while rest of the team can barely hear me. Problem is not in the mic as other software work fine (steam, mumble, teamspeak), problem is in the game or origin client, which doesn't have any settings for recording.
So unless that is fixed i can't reliable use it.

Most people don't talk because they are afraid there might be a girl in game and then they wouldn't know what to do or say around her.

I am a girl and one of the (minor) reasons I don't talk is because I am afraid of what people's reaction could be. I don't want to be kicked out of the game because I'm a girl and I made them fail their match and I don't know how to play, and I keep dying stupidly - stuff like that. It's a silly reason not to speak on the mic, I know.

Though it's not the only reason. Actually the main thing is that I'm French, and my English is not that bad but it makes me nervous to speak English (to actual Americans, English people etc...) on the mic. And then it gets me confused and I'm losing my words and my pronunciation becomes all messed up. And I feel stupid. (and it makes me even more nervous).

I recently added an American to my friends list, and he invited me to chat. You can't imagine how stressed I was. I think he managed to understand me, and apparently he recognized my voice as one of a girl, not a 12-year-old boy. But I didn't speak the whole match afterwards, (fortunately there was another friend of his, so they talked during the games) because I was too nervous and I couldn't concentrate on the game if I was trying to say anything.

But you know OP, once I got past the fear and accepted the invite to the chat group, I was really proud of me. I was completely stressed and traumatized, but I was proud of me, because I had finally spoken to someone - and in English.
I think you should just go for it, forget what you think about your voice and have fun speaking with people. I love hearing people talk during matches, and if I could participate in without nervosity, I'd do it.
As they say, "haters gonna hate". Just focus on the game, not on your voice or what anyone could think of it. :)

I did some voice recording for some friends animation projects a few years ago. After hearing myself talking normally in the booth between recording I became really self conscious about my voice.

I mean it's probably changed a bit since (we're talking 10 years) but still.
I did promise to buy a mic if the Vorcha became playable so I guess it's just a matter of time >_>

Kareaux, in my opinion, your greatest fear in using a mic during the game and being a French woman, should be that your friends list will grow astronomically, and that the number of instant messages being sent to you may very well overload the internet connection for your province...Image IPB

I only find it really weird when you're the only person talking.  You wonder if anyone can even hear you.
