A list of +strength Items available before the siege of denerim:

Helm of Honnleath (requires the stone prisoner) +2
Harvest Festival Ring (requires the stone prisoner) +2
Ring of the Warrior +2
Shadow of the Empire +2
Key to the City +2
Witherfang Amulet +1
Anduriel's Blessing +2
Barbarian Mace +1
Vengance +3
Earthheart's Portable Bulwark +1
Effort Gloves +1 (only good for the last point between 38 and 39 for king commander armor)

So that's a maximum potential of 16 if you kill Witherfang and Branka, 15 if you kill Branka but not Witherfang, and 13 if you kill neither Branka nor Witherfang.

Thanks. Of course some of those items are mutually exclusive (such as the rings).

What is Vengance and where do I find it? I can't find it on Game Banshee.

I'm aware some are mutually exclusive but the totals don't count all three rings, for example. Vengance is dropped by Branka, Shadow of the Empire is available at a vender in Orzamar Commons, Barbarian Mace is a reward for the very early game quest Chasind Trail Signs in the kokari wilds. Let me know if you cannot track down the others.

+ 2 Berserker* I forgot or wrongly assumed. So that took my char to 25+17 needed.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Helm of Honleath & Harvest Festival Ring are easy to get. Andruil's, not so much, it's expensive, so it'll be a while before you can get it, especially if you also want to buy a good weapon. Shadow of the Empire, it's not that expensive, but it still costs a good amount of gold. Vengeance, I thought that mace was called Vanguard, depends on how you play I guess, I usually do Orzammar last, which means I wouldn't have it until level 18 at the earliest. The shield, Bulwark, again costs a bunch of gold, to buy it just to throw it away later... Are you cheating gold in? Where does all this money come from?

For me, playing solo, I finish the game with less than 20 gold, after I'm done equipping my characters.

As you said, you are to kill things, not to persuade them ;)

Lothering -> the Circle -> Orzammar before Deep Roads, with Coercion IV and I always have 100-150g. This is around level 12, where Zerker +2, helm +2 , key +2 , Blessing +2, Shadow of the Empire +2, ring + 2 give hmm 37 Strength. Around level 18 I got the Rose Thorn.

Personally I do not like buying weapons, I am cheap I guess, so I use DLC stuff instead - Starfang and Edge. Funny, that DLC is basically paid for. Oh well ..

And yes I used the console and selling lyrium pots to get +2000g before, but this is not the case. Both games Ive done it, not solo games, are going to be unfinished.

37 Strength is fine. I think to have 25 strength base and shoot for 38 is a good goal, you can get that early enough and for me personally, Evon's is the best armor in the game anyway. But 42 seems stretching it a bit and unrealistic to me.

Agreed. By the time I was able to equip 42 Strength armor I felt I did not need it anyways. All I really wanted was Death Blow and use Starfang.

edit: btw not like anyone cares, but am replaying dwarven 2H atm. dunno why but i get most fun (and gold heh) out of her :)

It's not a list of items you can get at level 7 or a list of items you can get on an extream budget. It's just a simple list of items with +strength on them that are obtainable before the siege of denerim, which is pretty late in the game. Without cheats 750-800+ gold in one playthrough isn't difficult to do at all so the money for all the items is certainly there. It's just a question of priorities. As a solo player the priorities are completely up to you, the list is just a group of options not required aquisitions. Speaking of, there's a +1 strength belt I left off the list that's quite cheap if the +2 all belt is beyond the budge of an early two-hand warrior, might even be less than 1 gold if memeory serves.

I may have gotten the name on the mace wrong.  It's +3 strength, dropped by Branka, and starts with a V though.

Why would you need to buy a good weapon as a solo Two-Hand warrior? Ageless is free, Yusarius is free, Starfang you didn't have access to in your solo run but other players do, it's probably the second best two-hand weapon in the game all around, and it's totally free.  As a dual wielder the only good weapon to buy is the rose's thorn which should probably take a front seat to +strength items.  Thorn of the dead gods tier 6, arguably the second best dagger, is available for free almost immediatly in Orzamar.  The cheese knife is another early, free, easily accesable option as well.

Tried to fight her face-to-face, but got impatient after 5 reloads, switched to circling her to avoid grabs and exploit her slow reactions, meele range whole fight nevertheless. Dwarf noble female Level 16, Yusaris no runes, grabbed 5 times, 50% fire resist, used ~ 40 - 15 - 4 Lesser - Regular - Greater health pots *shrugs* took +6 mins

It is definitely called Vanguard.

As far as "easy to get" + strength items, you can get an easy +7 with Ornate Leather Belt, Helm of Honleath, Harvest Festival Ring and Key to the City.

I don't like Evon the Great's Mail. It's ugly lol. Seriously, it looks exactly the same as the Dragonscale, which is lame.

Typical me, so shallow...

As far as the "best" armor goes though, I'd probably go with Blood Dragon. But again, 'tis ugly.

EDIT: Also, we should make a Solo thread, for anyone doing a solo. I might do one when I start soloing. Or another challenge I've thought of...

Lol. I did that the first time I did that quest. I'll always remember.

Garnet, Silver, Grey Iron.

Guys, what are some good gloves and boots to go with the Knight Commander's Plate? Keep in mind that the max strength requirement is 39. Is there anything that will give a set bonus?

I agree that Evon's Mail is the best armor in the game, but I'd like a spell resisting alternative. It was sweet when I found out that you can get a set bonus with Evon's Mail and Wade's Superior Dragonscale boots and gloves.

Hey , why do you solo , do you get more xp or just to make the game difficult?

Timortis> Yes! I got iron and silver, but almost every time get confused about gems, so I tend to pick them all without using brain :) Thanks

FatLeprechaun7> Never had char with that armor on, but possibly Gloves of Diligence + 4 armor? Tried to combine those with Blood Dragon armor, but the set bonus provides almost the same. Or the mentioned Effort Gloves +1 Strength. IMO you cant really go wrong with gloves*.

lu811> Dunno about others, but for me it is not only about added difficulty in a sense: This is a challenge and I am the man to beat it! Timortis said somewhere above that soloing archer for example made him "look at encounters differently", which is the case for me too. It is about getting to know your character, enemies, terrain settings, and in-game options better, then use it to overcome the difficulty. When in group the game is more forgiving making me sloppy, and I only noticed certain "delicacies" of the game when pushed to limits simply because before I did not have to pay attention to them.

To the issue of money ~ items from vendors. Level 10 going for Blessing 169g, 114g spent (Tomes, recipes, lesser and regular health pots and salves from vendors, Blood Dragon gloves/boots and Master Hale Rune I think) Coercion IV, Trap-Making I, Combat Training III. Legit ..

edit: gloves* forgot .. Ancient Elven .. 4% spell resist + 2 armor, though Medium

Any tips for someone just starting to get into NM soloing? I've been having trouble just trying to get past the origins.

What kind of character?

Early levels are tough no question. Personally, I either use bow to split and lure enemies or the infamous :) buttin(g) technique. Either way reducing number of hitting enemies at once is essential.

http://img202.images...751/butting.jpg

Other than that .. well, take your time, use everything you have, abilities, terrain, pots (there are few ..), AI patterns to your advantage. Solo runs are for everyone "willing" while "able" comes naturally somehow.

I've tried it on a few different characters and origins. Maybe I'm just not patient enough for it.

Edit:
Well, I've managed to get to Ostagar as a mage now. Having some CC really helped me get through the origin and was something I lacked when I tried it before. Does Walking Bomb not count as your own damage dealt? For some reason I'm at 99% and I'm pretty sure I didn't allow any of the companions to do anything.

You must have hurt yourself with WB, any kind of friendly fire counts as party damage, including self-damage from abilities like Blood Magic or Aura of Pain.

Btw, I started a <gasp> cunning Rogue for the hell of it. Got him to level 13, though I'm using a different build than the one most people use, so he can wear better armor. Otherwise he's too fragile.

Well, I got through the Wilds through judicious use of Winter's Grasp sniping. I have no idea how I'm going through the tower, but it should be interesting. Is there a recommended order for quests after Lothering?

This thread inspired me to complete a 2H nightmare solo. And it was great fun. Nice!

Make sure you have a lot of pots, health and lyrium. On my mage solo I had a lot of trouble in the Tower because I went in without health potions and once you're in you can't leave (didn't want to revert to a previous save...stubborn). The Sloth demon was probably the single most frustrating fight I've ever done in the game--in Golem form I'd just get chain-knocked down. Maybe I just wasn't that good at the game. Uldred was also difficult because Crushing Prison was OHKO.

Snorepoke that's awesome!

Got to almost level 16 with the cunning Rogue. Killed Jarvia but had to use a health poultice. My dex Rogue didn't need any potions in this fight.

Could you please share your build and attributes progression? I'm going Cunning Dagger rogue in a party setting, and am following the build progession set out in Discobird's DPS thread; need to get an idea of how the Cun/Dex/Str progression should go.

Well it might be different with a party. My whole idea was to increase dex and str in the beginning, both to meet requirements and to get better attack which is very important early on, then start increasing cun and go straight for Song of Courage so my attack would keep improving at least with the song a little bit and only then go for Lethality by which time my cun was higher enough than my str to make a noticeable difference etc. I left Exploit Weakness for last.
